Opinions Requested - Pavers or Concrete?

I just did pavers. The best part is if they get wavy or move in 10 years they can be picked up and reset without having to break concrete and start over. :goodjob:

I inherited a problem and need help

I haven't seen it asked yet. When you loose power, is it normally for a few hours, or days? ( A hurricane is a whole different story) I few hours here and there won't be too bad for the pool. I usually only run mine 8-10 hours a day. If you can schedule your time around when the power is most...

Looking for 5 Gal Chlorine Carboys

Not sure where you are, but I got my container at the pool store. I'm not sure exactly, but I think it was about $28 to buy the container filled with 5 gallons of 12%. When it's empty they exchange it for a full one for $16.

    1971 In-ground, Forgotten no more.......

Well ,since I left you all hanging a few months ago I figured it's about picture time. I'm currently 90% done and the pool is functional. I just need to morter the edge of the pavers in and tie up some loose ends. The area between the pavers and fence will be a river stone, but that iis going...

    How many pucks for vacation?

I just went through this last week. I normally use about 1/2 gallon of 12% a day, to make life easier for my friend who took care of he pool while I was away I filled up gallon jugs for him and he added one every other day. It helped cut down on his trips abck and fourth. I tried it on my...

Baqua swamp to BBB pool conversion........maybe.

I did try out the test strips I found and they showed nothing in there, but they were expired by a few years so I can't place any faith in them. I had a feeling that is was all gone, but I feel better now that you agree with my idea to add the CYA . I'll swing by the pool store tonight and...

Baqua swamp to BBB pool conversion........maybe.

OK, Actually I'm mid conversion I think. Because I purchased the house as an estate, nobody could give me any real history of the pool. All I know is that it has been closed for at least 2 years with a mesh safety cover and by the looks of it I would be it has been a bit longer. Anyway since...

Those are standard PT 4x4 posts. I found the caps at home cheapo and thought it would dress them up nicely. It will also keep the water out of the end grain of the post.

    1971 In-ground, Forgotten no more.......

Things are really starting to come together now. The electrical and bonding passed it's initial inspection. Over weekend I finished up the pool panel, patio outlets, and poured the slab for the pump and filter to sit on. The pump is wired up and new hard lines now connect everything to the...

Thanks for the compliments! My regular job is as and engineering tech. Basically I build prototyped of whatever the engineers in the office come up with. From filter systems to microscope parts. On my own, I've rebuilt cars and a boat. So have a good background in the area of how things...

    1971 In-ground, Forgotten no more.......

Moving along here. The local code inspector will accept the bond wire lop instead of a full copper grid :whoot: So that's done now and so is all the electrical conduit work around the pool. Now I'm just waiting on the inspector to check it so I can fill the trenches in and get my electrical...

    1971 In-ground, Forgotten no more.......

Been a little slow on the updates here, but I'm still working at it. All of the QP stone s in and compacted. I rented a skid steer to get excess soil graded out. It's starting to look like a backyard again without piles all over the place. About 3/4 of the fence is done. I want to get the...

    1971 In-ground, Forgotten no more.......

Nothing to exciting here yet, Still plugging away at it. I have gotten the first lift of QP stone in and compacted and I'm about 1/2 way through the second. I've got my mechanical helper back up and running, so that's making life much easier moving all the stone.

    1971 In-ground, Forgotten no more.......

Well, I read that a little late and had already returned the sleeve. Oh well. I did pick up plenty of fabric though. This last weekend I managed to get all the trench lined with the fabric, the pipe reset (holes down) , and get the clean stone in up to a few inches below the intended paver...

    1971 In-ground, Forgotten no more.......

Thanks all. I think I'm going to return the sleeve and pick up some fabric instead so I can line the trench before the clean stone goes in. Have no fear I will be turning the pipe before I cover anything up. That was just laid in place so I could get the bottom of the trench right and...

    1971 In-ground, Forgotten no more.......

Moving along here..... I only have one day to work on things this weekend, but I did manage to get all the pipe for my perimeter drain in place and pitched properly. I have to pull it one more time and put the filter sock on it, but at least there will be no more digging involved. :mrgreen...

    1971 In-ground, Forgotten no more.......

I have not pressure tested them, but I do know I'm not loosing any water. I do plan on getting the equipment running to make sure everything is OK before running before setting the pavers. I figured the paver work will be a good time to start shocking the pool since I'll be there working next...

    1971 In-ground, Forgotten no more.......

I guess this is the part where it gets worse before it gets better. :hammer: I have all the excavating done and have made quite the mess. The paver are is nice and lever with a slight pitch away from the pool. Next is to install all my drainage piping that was delivered yesterday. Then I...

    Baquacil in a closed pool?

Yup, definitely converting over to chlorine. Just trying to get a handle on what's in store for me. Once I get my power and plumbing rerouted I'll start to get this thing cleared up.

    Baquacil in a closed pool?

Just curious, how long does Baquacil last in a closed pool. I've purchased a swamp that's been closed at least two years. Just this past weekend I found some paperwork and a test kit relating to baquacil in the garage. I'm not sure if it was used or not. What happens to the Baqua levels in...

    1971 In-ground, Forgotten no more.......

Ok, time for an update. Last weekend I was able to tear out all of the remaining pool deck and the wooden deck next to it. So it's down to a clean slate. This past weekend I rented a machine and excavated down about 10 inches around the perimeter of the pool where my planned paver...

    1971 In-ground, Forgotten no more.......

I plan on keeping this one for quite a while. It still needs a lot of work inside too, but the pool is priority 1 right now. Insurance co. wants a fence fast, but I refuse to do and excavating next to a brand new fence. So that has dictated my order of operations here. Once I get all the...

    1971 In-ground, Forgotten no more.......

I recently purchased a house with an old in-ground that has been closed up and forgotten about for a few years. I'm bringing it back to life on a budget, so there's going to be lot's of sweat equity going into this one. Follow along if you would like. Here's the plan : Remove old wood deck...

How does this electrical plan sound?

Got it. Regular feed breaker to the Sub-panel, GFCI breaker on the pump and a GFI outlet with a regular breaker. I was referring to the Intermatic panel as the Sub-panel. It's sort of a timer box and sub-panel( 4 breakers) all in one, mounted on the post by the equipment pad. There are no...

How does this electrical plan sound?

Most of the wire I see around here is THHN/THWN-2 dual rated. I'll make sue I check it when I purchase it. Thanks

How does this electrical plan sound?

Yup, more old pool rehab questions. The old wiring is pretty sketchy and corroded, not to mention definitely not up to current code. So here's my plan. Secure pressure treated 4x4 post in ground and mount Intermatic T21004R pool time/panel at the equipment pad. (about 15ft from pool) Bury 1"...

    Check my understanding of bonding.

OK got it, 4-6 inches into the soil below the gravel paver base and 18-24 inches from the perimeter of the pool walls. That's clear enough. The rest of the plan sounds good?

ladder and railing sockets in paver patio

I'm toying with this idea myself. I think I'm going to got he concrete block route, starting at the pool wall and going out about 6 inches further and wider on each side than the ladder sockets. The old section of concrete I took out there was a good 8" thick and about that size, so that's...

    Check my understanding of bonding.

I've read up here and the NEC code and I think I've got it. I'm re-decking an old in-ground liner pool with pavers. I can't see any evidence of any previous attempts at bonding on it, so I'm on my own. What I planned on doing is putting a loop around the entire pool with #8 bare copper wire...

    Old house, Old pool----Game On!

I hear ya. I already have the test kit. I've been thinking about putting the Walmart "home Free" shipping to the test. They have 182 Oz of 6% bleach online (currently out of stock) for $2.98, not the greatest price out there, but if they will drop say.....60 gallons at my door for free it...
