    Leafpump & Ecopump

Hi. I installed the EP-6 back in June, and it's worked out very well. As Dave said, we've had a few discussions already. I am highly pleased with its simplicity, reliability, quiet operation, and economy. I recommend it. Tom

Getting picky - how to get pool to sparkle

Try a bit of DE, or try http://www.recreonics.com/cgi-local/shopper.cgi?preadd=action&key=21-205&qty=1. Borates as mentioned above. Additionally, what's your filtration time? Are you running it long enough?

    Best Pool Alarm

We had a tragedy here in CA. last year or so- mom, dad, twins. Mom put the kids down for a nap. Mom fell asleep. The pool gate was propped open. They found both kids in the water. Guy I work with, two weeks ago, in-laws- pool gate left open- two year old. (Current stats for the U.S. are about...

    Somewhat off topic....

Yes, the drip chamber is about 5 ml, so that's where all your initial mixing would occur. We do a wide open flush, about 10 seconds for 20 MLS to run through.

    Somewhat off topic....

So, in summary, it would take 100 ML to dilute down to .7%? In a straight vertical run of small bore tubing, that seems somewhat counterintuitive. After all, wouldn't the vast majority of the existing column of water evacuate on first pass, simply through gravity?

    Somewhat off topic....

A dilution question. (That indirectly relates to pool turnover math, I suppose..http://ppoa.org/?page_id=463) Given: A standard I.V. tube (4mm internal diameter, with drip chamber, 60" length) containing 20ml of water, to the midline of the drip chamber. (Volume A.) Tubing oriented vertically...

Using the pool as a reservoir in case of emergency.....

If we were forced to use our pools for drinking water, how would we be able to safely do so? Chlorine is self limiting, and depending on your level on any given day, would quickly drift down.(Federal guidelines for drinking water chlorine levels list the recommended upper level at about 4 ppm.)...

How much to heat my pool - please double check this math?

Re: How much to heat my pool - please double check this math I'll ball park you some figures. California. PG@E. Graduated scale for therms ($0.96476/therm, baseline) , 20000 gallon pool. Heating it 24/7 to 82 degrees, no cover, all season. About 250-300 dollars a month for natural gas alone...

    New Pump Suggestions

I just went with an EcoPump two speed EP-6. You might want to look at their website. I am very pleased with its performance thus far. ($850 or so.) Tom

What pool temp is ok with you?

82 degrees, otherwise the familial users start to gripe at the operator, I.e., me.

Solar heating not what is use to be.

One factor you might consider-night time temperature. I'm nearby-we've been having some chilly nights. You might be starting out colder than last year. ( What were the pm temps this time last year?) Tom

    End of season equipment review....

In June, I replastered, and replaced all of our existing equipment except our heater. Around that same time, I found this site, and finally understood why the previous 4 years of pool ownership had been so tiresome. (Replacing superstition with facts is a lovely thing.) My initial post...

    Polaris 9300 disapointing first run

I switched from a 280 to a 360 when I installed my two speed; the 360 works fine. No issues. The main thing to be aware of is adjusting your flow so that the wheels spin 30 times a minute- that ensures proper operation of the cleaner. (That, and the usual Polaris adjustments to the rear jet...

Do you run your pump non-stop?

I run a two speed, and I run low 23 hrs, high(for the Polaris) 1 hour. That being said, my electric bill has gone down from my previous 1 speed 12hr day pump. It's better for the pool, I think-steady state chemistry, so to speak.

SpectraLight, EcoPump, Zeosand, New plaster, etc...

Gerry, You could do that, certainly, though I went with a much simpler approach- a ball valve on the return line, which I then adjusted at the high setting to get the necessary 30 turns a minute from the 360. At low speed, the 360 acts as a "rolling return", slowly creeping around the pool. I...
