Need help with a new pool project

Hello! You guys have helped me so much over the years and I have a new project. We use to live in Albuquerque, NM. Through your help we got a 15' cartridge filter intex pool when the kids were very young and learned how to maintain the water through pool school but I hated that filter. When...

Still Cloudy after 2 weeks. Thoughts?

We got the Stairs out! Found a culprit, and question. For those following our algae journey, we were able to get the stairs out. No visible algae sign anywhere on the stairs although we will completely dismantle. Form what we've taken apart so far we've seen no algae at all. However, the stair...

Still Cloudy after 2 weeks. Thoughts?

Ok thanks everyone. I'll have to arrange a bunch of folks to help. Until the stair extraction I'm assuming I just keep doing what I'm doing, right. In other words, the longest SLAM on record until stairs come out. Besides that water looking pretty clear. I think I need hubby to just approve...

Still Cloudy after 2 weeks. Thoughts?

June 4th update. Ok so here is where I'm at. When I checked FC yesterday afternoon I recorded 18. However, I realized about a half hour after that I did not multiply my result by .5 so FC was actually only 9. So we went from FC=20 to FC=9 in 4 hours. This was the time I went to run errand, pick...

Still Cloudy after 2 weeks. Thoughts?

ok so current FC=18 now. All the algae in the corners is now gone. Yes! Water still is not sparkly yet. Should I bump FC up to 20 again or wait another few hrs and test? Those stairs are gonna be a real bugger. I see nothing on the front of them at all. I know we can scrub the back of them...

Still Cloudy after 2 weeks. Thoughts?

yeah we didn't reall think about circulation or anything. We were complete newbies and I needed a safe way for my 68 year old parents to get in and out of the pool. My father tried the ladder and about broke his neck. Thus the stairs and the deck. My worry is we won't be able to fully clean out...

Still Cloudy after 2 weeks. Thoughts?

Yeah the stairs are a beast! Lol! I can't thank everyone enough. And the chem kit is really helpful. Does anyone know how to purchase some of the chemicals separately? I don't forsee checking CYA in the near future but I'll need more of that chemical when I do.

Still Cloudy after 2 weeks. Thoughts?

OK I added enough to raise it to 20. Ill check it in a few hours after I get my daughter back from dance. Im trying to post a picture now of how it looked this morning before scrubbing and adding more bleach: - - - Updated - - - and the stairs:

Still Cloudy after 2 weeks. Thoughts?

Ok so I just checked FC. It's at 13 ppm. I had put my last bleach adjustment in at 4:45 am and tested at 6:00 am and got a reading of 16. So I lost 3 ppm. So to get it up to 16 again it says add 38 oz but you say I should target 20? Just want to make sure before I dump bleach here in the next...

Still Cloudy after 2 weeks. Thoughts?

Yes it's single speed. So when I'm checking FC and it dips below 16 (which is my slam target based on my CYA) do I just kept adjusting via the pool calculator, adding bleach to keep it up to 16 ppm until it's clear and the other criteria are met? We got this pool to see if we are pool people...

Still Cloudy after 2 weeks. Thoughts?

Thanks for the help. I'll take the cover off then. So another question I know u guys get asked all the time. When can I let the family in given my current numbers? Like I said, it's cloudy (although you can see the bottom with no issues it's just not sparkling). It's only 4 feet and everyone...

Still Cloudy after 2 weeks. Thoughts?

Oh and one more thing. We have a solar cover. I can't find a cover that is not solar I can put on our pool. At only 4 feet deep, in New Mexico and our temps, the pool temp is 85-89 degrees. It's getting too hot and I'm wondering if that's contributing to the issue. If I don't cover it though...

Still Cloudy after 2 weeks. Thoughts?

Ok great. Yes I am a stay at home mom so I can check multiple times a day, we've just been lazy. I have the TF-100 we bought last year when I found TFP. I need to get more CYA reagent though, that's almost gone. Do I have to test CYA multiple times per day? If so I need to get more reagent ASAP...

Still Cloudy after 2 weeks. Thoughts?

So I need a little help. We have a cloudy blue pool and I want it back to crystal clear that I love so much. I think I know what to do and what the issues are but I wanted to run it by you all first. We have an above ground rectangular intex 12x24 (see my signature). We kept it up all winter...

Our Intex 12x24 Pool is finally opened Thanks TFP!! Pics included

I want to thank TFP so much! You guys always help! I took your advice and drained and bailed as much as I could then refilled and followed the pool school steps. Ive added my CYA and FC. So far PH is good but will continue to watch that daily as CYA can affect that. I am so grateful to you all...

2nd year start up with intex 12x24x48 questions

Thanks to everyone on TFP our last summer as newbies was a success. As it doesn't get too cold here we did not take down our intex 12x24 pool this year but just drained it down to about a foot over the winter. After evaporation over the winter we are down to about 8 inches in the bottom. There...

Start up , test #'s and what next? No CYA

Hi everyone. Still battling the whole FC, CYA balance. So far each day no CYA registers. The FC fluxuatates from 4-5 ppm to 0 pm at the end of each day so obviously my pool is not balanced. I use bleach 8.25% strength poured slowly for about 2 minutes around the pool. I need to know what...

CYA still zero and now FC is zero too Ok this pool set up is unnerving to me. Thanks for the help yesterday. I put shock in Monday night (6/16), yesterday's results were: PH: 7.6, FC: 5 ppm, CYA:0. Today I tested, results are pH: 7.6, FC:0, and CYA: 0. Ok so now what? I have a sock for the next...

Great thanks.i have the pool calculator on my phone and my ipad. When I first joined here a few years ago, I used chlorine powder for chlorinating. I'd like to try bleach this year. I've been trying to navigate pool school and reading when I get a chance. That pool calc is great. Main thing...

Start up , test #'s and what next? No CYA

Hi everyone. We've upgraded from last years 12 ft round intex to a 12x24 ft rectangular pool in my siggy. We've never had a sand filter, skimmer, etc so some new stuff. We opened our pool last weekend (new water, new pool out of the box). Crazy pool store guys told me to shock with 1 1/2 cups of...

I need help: Pressure treated wood or pavers for legs supports?

Thanks everyone. I'm still trying to determine exactly where I put the supports on the pavers. Should I have the paver butt all the way up to the pool liner?

I need help: Pressure treated wood or pavers for legs supports?

Thanks guys! That helps a lot! We will be taking it down each season. For the sizing of the supports, how big? Does it need to go from the edge of the pool bottom past the outer edge of the metal support? That would be a width of almost 2 feet as the footprint says from the edge of the floor...

I need help: Pressure treated wood or pavers for legs supports?

Hi everyone, I'm going to keep asking questions in hopes that someone has done this before. We are putting up our new intex 12'x24'x52" pool next Friday. The area for it has been leveled. My question is about the pavers for under the side supports. Last time we did this we had the little 12'...
