    Getting back up and running

Hey jbizzel, thanks for the reply. Glad to see you're still here helping all us lost souls find the light! POP is the tough one for me, but I have been doing better this year more so than any other. Slowly adding chems (aside from the CYA doh), testing often and waiting for the pool to tell me...

    Getting back up and running

Ahhh summer is here and even though we experience mild winters here it is really nice to see warmer weather and the excitement in the kids faces as the pool nears opening. Anyhow just checking in to see if there might be anything else I could do about some persistent cloudy water. I have been...

CYA almost completely gone in 1 month???

Well if the pool was an inch low the bucket was about a quarter inch.

CYA almost completely gone in 1 month???

I guess I was looking at the Pool School directions which confirm a plumbing or basin leak. How long should I run the experiment?

CYA almost completely gone in 1 month???

What do you use to plug the inlets and outlets?

CYA almost completely gone in 1 month???

My instinct says its a leak, but how much evaporation in 90 plus degree weather should I expect in direct sunlight. I have compared my fill rate with my friends who lives in the same area and gets full sun all day as I do and we are close. Thats not to say he doesn't have a leak as well.

CYA almost completely gone in 1 month???

Do you have a leak? Not completely sure! Are you seeing a lot of CC in the water? No! Do you have an auto-fill that could be masking a leak? No auto fill, I have to turn it on every few days! When you added the CYA did you confirm that the CYA had indeed increased to the level...

CYA almost completely gone in 1 month???

Is this for real? I have completely lost almost all CYA twice in one summer. A month ago I did a full test and noticed there was no CYA. I assumed splash out, we have had a lot of activity. I added the necessary amount of HTH stabilizer and got it dialed in. Now 30 days later it has about 5ppm...

    Testimonials

The TFP team has been the biggest blessing I have had since becoming a pool owner, only second to my son and his dogs happiness. I always knew there was something fishy when every time I entered a pool store I left with $50, $60, $70 or $100 bill and that doesn't even count for the pool guys...

    Raising CH

    Tips and Tricks

Re: A couple of tips I thought everybody knew. Anybody got Wow that was a long and worthwhile read! I ran out to the pool and tried a few out LOL. These may help someone out. 1. Want to make skimming the surface of small debris and bugs easy? Mix a small (as little as possible) amount of dish...

I don't know where this goes...

We encourage our Shepard to swim as often as we can, with degenerative arthritis and possibly even hip dysplasia the daily exercise is the best thing for him. The real cost is as you eluded to "cleaning the hair" during shedding. My filter gets plugged, while the surface of the pool will be...

    Raising CH

The cost of the lost CYA is nominal compared to the cost of Chlorine I'm loosing during direct sunlight. I will add the recommended dose from the Pool Calculator and adjust for any loss later. Clearing has improved markedly this afternoon, can see to the bottom of the deep end, in turn I will...

    Raising CH

JasonLion: Thanks, FC was at 0 for a at least 2 weeks unfortunately that is when we had a hot spell and the algae formed. jbizzel: Yes the test was done prior to Sun hitting the surface, sun hits the pool at about 9am. I'm cleaning my filter once a day (last three days) until the cloudiness...

    Raising CH

Another question: If I ended my season with a CYA of 35 - 40 how is it that it is now 0? I have had to refill about one foot to get it up to the skimmer but that does not account for such a dramatic loss in CYA.

    UPDATE: Okay OCLT results from 8pm last night to 8am this morning. 8pm: FC = 10 CC = .5 pH = 7.3 TA = 90 CH = 180 CYA = 0 8am: FC = 5.5 CC = .5 pH = 7.3 to 7.4 was a slight color difference could be lighting TA = 90 CH = 180 CYA = 0 Water is continuing to clear but still cloudy past the 4foot...

Hey all starting back up again and had some quick questions. Readings done last night and tested again this am for FC loss. FC = 12.5 (6:30pm) and 6 (8:30 am) CC = 1 pH= 7.5 TA = 100 CH = 120 CYA = 0 Pool calculator requests the addition of: 1 gallon 1 quart of liquid bleach to bring shock...

    Need help....stains are getting worse!

No stain experts here? Talked with the folks at Jack's Magic he seems confident he can remove the stains but the process may cost me anywhere from 200 to 300 in materials plus my time. Does this sound right? Is this the route I should take?

    Need help....stains are getting worse!

Not below FC shock yet but by mid to late afternoon and probably tomorrow it may be. Kind of answers another question about heavy pool loads and bringing the FC high to ensure there is enough chlorine to last the day. Perhaps I shouldn't shock my guests lol. On the other hand some I would like...

    Need help....stains are getting worse!

I don't necessarily understand the CSI part yet but I see that at my current levels -0.09 the calc calls it balanced. I'll have to learn more about this reading later. FYI I was having to add muriatic acid allot but in the last few days it has been fairly stable at 7.2 Okay so then I'm...

    Need help....stains are getting worse!

Am results as of 8:30 am PST: FC = 14.5 CC = 0 CYA = 35 YAY obviously there was something in there at the beginning of the shock which is now just dust caught in my filter. FYI I did cut a small pepper tree down next to the pool yesterday, tried not to get anything in the water but dust...
