That’s great about the matching funds! I kept thinking I need to donate and this was the perfect reminder. Thanks to everyone here for helping my kids have awesome summers full of trouble free swimming!

    Building a Pool in Albuquerque

Just bumping this up for you. I live in ABQ but have an above ground pool. There are inground pools around, but not nearly as many as you would think for living in the desert SW. It kind of depends on where you are looking to live. Many of the city lots are not necessarily large enough to...

    I'm confused.

We have a ladder like this. Periodically I take a syringe of straight bleach and inject it straight into the holes. Continue to do that to all the holes until I have used up one to two cups of bleach. I do it about once a month or every 6 weeks and it seems to keep things sanitized.

Hello good people of the forum (please help!) lol ;-)

Looks good. We installed ours 3 years ago ourselves and I remember those rails being a pain in the you know what. The rails sitting in the bottom plates caused some issue. Seemed like not all the rails went all the way to the dimple of the bottom plate? I actually brought out my instructions...

Hello good people of the forum (please help!) lol ;-)

I don't have a Vogue pool, but have a 12 x 17 oval. How many buttresses do you have? (or buttress free uprights?) Our shortest tracks went between our side supports (buttress free). If you have 8 side supports (4 on each side) then you will have 6 equal length tracks that go between those...

    How Low Do You Go

We are wimps. If the water isn't at least 80 my KIDS won't even get in. And I won't touch the water unless it is at least 84, though I prefer 88. :-D

Thanks! I appreciate all the help!

    Hornet??

Another question: I recently found a spot in the front yard that looked like it had been dug out right along the sidewalk. But there was no obvious hole, that I could see at least. I keep looking at it trying to figure out what was going on. But now I'm wondering...is that what a female's...

    Hornet??

Thanks everyone! I'm glad to find out they aren't anything more aggressive! This one sure was annoying though, the kids were terrified. I thought it was interesting because it hadn't actually tried to sting anyone. Usually we just move to the other side of the pool, wait for the insect to...

    Hornet??

Yes!!!! Here's a pic of ours: I drowned him in the pool and had my daughter get a tupperware container for me to catch it in. I want to know what it is and if I should expect more of these babies! Any thoughts?

    Hornet??

I don't know. I hate INSECTS!!! :P Let me see if I can post a pic.

    Hornet??

We were at the end of an afternoon pool party for the kids when we got buzzed by what I think is a large hornet. It was VERY aggressive flying right up into people's faces. Terrified the kids. I trapped it under the leaf net and drowned it while the kids got out of the pool. This is the...

    How's the water?

Our water is 84F and the kids are complaining it's TOO cold!

    Shocking and some questions

Oh yes. I think you misunderstood, I am still shocking. I have my FC at 28 and check it every couple of hours during the day. Bring it back up to 28 after sundown and do an OCLT in the morning. I understand that. I'm trying to figure out what my ideal conditions should be to prevent this...

    Shocking and some questions

Thanks John. The pool is looking much better. One further question, my cya is between 60 and 70. (I have a hard time doing that test, but consistently between 60 and 70.) Twice last week the FC had dropped to 4.5 in the evening before I added more chlorine. I'm trying to figure out why...

    Shocking and some questions

So you're saying that the 1.5 ppm loss the first night and the 2.5 ppm loss the second night are basically equivalent because of +- of 0.5 ppm?

    Shocking and some questions

So over the course of the weekend the pool became somewhat cloudy. Could still see the bottom but I had the feeling I was looking through glass that was not clear. So I did the OCLT: Sunday 9PM: FC 9.5 CC 0.5 Monday 6AM FC 8.0 CC 0.5 So since my CYA level is between 60-70, I brought my FC...

    FC test results varies

Thanks! I knew there was a different answer to the way I was thinking about it. You're right of course. :-D

    FC test results varies

Isn't there a percentage error in the test? I thought I read somewhere, extended directions posted above maybe, that the error was +- 10%. If your chlorine levels should be around 20, doesn't that give you 20 +-2? Or am I not understanding it properly. It is certainly late enough that my...

Hoping for HELP to identify this pool.

Well, if there isn't anything else in it shock probably won't hurt at all. Just tell him no more until you get the pool chemistry settled.

So what is the main unit you have? I was having a hard time finding it on the website.

    Cloudy water?

Thanks frogabog. I really hate what we have down now. We are slowly adding flagstone around the pool. I'm hoping once that is done it will decrease the amount of dirt in the pool. Most of our dirt seems to center around the ladder, which is why I tend to blame the dust clinging to feet. I...

    Cloudy water?

So far so good. Pool looks crystal clear, husband vacuumed this evening and the shock level I added just at sunset is still holding. With any luck it will be the same in the morning and I can let the FC level drop during the day. Then my kids will be happy once I let them back in the pool...

    Cloudy water?

So I tested this hour and I am still at shock (FC=24). The water is looking clearer, though I can still see some stuff floating in it. I'm beginning to think it was a combination of something starting to grow (the FC had fallen to 3.5 twice in the last week by the time I checked in the...

    Cloudy water?

I did not notice any difference in the water returning to the pool, but there may have been a difference. I backwashed for a while before the water was coming out clean. It was really disgusting. Yes the psi drops to 0 when the filter is off. Our pump is not a variable speed pump, as far as...

    Cloudy water?

Well that was nasty. I have a question, the last time we backwashed I just watched the water coming out the hose. There are 2 glass circles on the filter, am I supposed to be watching through one of those? Anyway, backwashed (and it was really dirty), and rinsed. Turned back to filtration...

    Cloudy water?

Pressure is holding steady at 7 psi. After I brought the FC up to shock (24) the last two hours I've checked the FC has dropped each time to 21.5. So I've been adding bleach according to the calc to bring it back up to 24. So not a huge drop considering the sunny climate I live in...

    Cloudy water?

Thanks for responding butterfly. :-D The pressure goes down to 0 when turned off. When the sand was first put in we backwashed and rinsed. The original psi after cleaning was 5, right in the middle of their green zone. It is now up to 7. It has been going up slowly, but the last 2 days I...
