    trouble with multiport valve/sand filter

New multiport valve and cutoff valve installed now. (how do you clean out the pump strainer basket? without a cut off ) I've always just taken the pump strainer basket out to clean--losing a little water--and then replacing it. This will be much better!

Yes, the pump is below the water line.

    trouble with multiport valve/sand filter

I will try to post some pictures tomorrow evening (if it will ever stop storming here!). I opened up the multiport again. Long story short...I stuffed some rubber balls in some of the plumbing to stop some water flow. It appears I have a broken housing where I would put the replacement spider...

    trouble with multiport valve/sand filter

Thank you for the reply; I actually left the invitation in my last post to "state the obvious", because of my inexperience. I'm pretty sure at one time this old pool had a bottom drain, and I have no idea how many returns and skimmers it started with. Today, it has no bottom drain, and one...

    trouble with multiport valve/sand filter

I called helpful pool store guy about this. He said to remove the multiport valve and bring it in for him to look at. He had to remove the handle to get to an old, faulty o-ring and replaced it. He put it back together and instructed me on the other things from the Go-kit that I need to replace...

    trouble with multiport valve/sand filter

We've been in our house for 5 years, and this is my first experience with a pool. (No expert, but learning!) The pool is 53 years old, and I have no idea how old some of the equipment is. Here's what's going on: I have a Hayward sand filter (SF71, I think). The multiport thing has always been...

Removing railing: how do I fill the anchor holes in the concrete deck?

Thanks. I hope this is the link to photobucket: http://s1368.photobucket.com/user/bloorondo/library/ The screws are about 2.5" long.

Removing railing: how do I fill the anchor holes in the concrete deck?

Our pool is over 50 years old, and has this wrought iron railing around it. We recently had to take down a huge, hundred-year-old oak tree, and in the process one of the rails was knocked over. We had contemplated removing them anyway, so that's what were doing. My question is this: With what...

    Anybody there?

    We've sprung a leak!

The first picture shows a close up of where a couple of the wall panels are joined. I was able to loosen one end of a very old caulk bead and pull it out in one piece. The discoloration on the right side seems to be algae that rubs right off. It seems to be under whatever material was used in...

    We've sprung a leak!

Sorry I'm a newbie here...trying to add some pictures. I had to reduce the size quite a bit, so I'm not sure if we'll be able to see anything. I had 5 pics, but 3 seems to be the limit. Thanks for any help. Dan

    We've sprung a leak!

I realize now that I should have done things differently. I suppose it's too late (since the pool is empty) to detect the leaks the way they should have been detected in the first place. And I'm guessing the plumbing can't even be tested at this point, with no water. I will try to post some...

    We've sprung a leak!

We bought a house in November which has a 50 year-old pool in the back. (16 x 32 x 8 feet deep -- deep end). After working my rear end off every day through the winter and spring, we opened the pool and swam in it a couple times before it decided to spring a leak. It's a concrete pool with...
