So embarrassed...Defeating the Giant Green Monster

Hey guys! I thought I'd update y'all. My pool has been sparkly clean for 2 days now, I maintained shock level anyway, just to be safe. I did the OCLT this morning and passed with flying colors. I started this last Thursday night (adding bleach) and today I can officially say the SLAM is done...

Quick pic, looking from the water line down. I hope you can see the bottom, in person you definitely can.

I'm at 53 jugs of bleach. This morning, I can see the bottom without squinting. There is a little cloudiness to the water, but not much. I hope in the next couple of days I'm done with the SLAM! I'm SO close!!

Pic from just now. Thanks Chemgeek. Pump is running 24/7 and we are getting out as much algae as we can with nets, and vacs. I'm cleaning the filter as necessary. In the first 3 days I cleaned it 4 times...now is when I can see why people say get a bigger filter. My plan is to never let it get...

Thanks, but I'm making them wait until it's completely done. BBB has spoiled me, I like a crystal clear body of water :) They're young (12,10,9) and all of us girls have super sensitive skin. It's just not worth the risk to let them swim now.

Got a pic, it's just the vac under water, and I don't think you can see the bottom in the pic :/ oh and ignore the shadow.

I'll post some in a few hours, the sun is directly behind me at the moment. It's casting a lot of shadows onto the pool. Good news! This morning I can see the pattern on the bottom of the pool...just barely, but it's definitely better than yesterday!! My girls keep asking when they can swim...

I can see the vac at the bottom of the pool, so that's progress! I don't think it's changed enough that y'all would be able to tell in pics. I am able to run the Pool Rover, so that helps a ton!

It is slowly clearing. I hope by this time next week I have a clear pool :) I've used over 30 jugs (121oz) of bleach so far

It was 73 when I checked 2 days ago. So it won't be long until we can swim :) - - - Updated - - - Just a quick pic, you can see where the algae is accumulating

I'll be taking the steps out later today, it's going to be a huge PITB, but we'll get it done. It's slowly clearing, I can see the spots where algae has collected on the bottom, so Dh will get in later and vacuum those areas. I'm so happy to see so much progress. I really thought I wouldn't...

I sure hope so!!! :) Maybe this will help the newbies see if you just follow the SLAM process to a T, it WILL work! I ran inside this morning and yelled to my DH "the pool is blue!!" He grunted and rolled over haha! Then shortly he came outside to see for himself. He was amazed. I think it's...

Casey, it really doesn't explain it! So, last night I added enough bleach to get to 18, so 6 jugs. This morning my level is 13...pretty good, still right above SLAM level. I'll add more in a minute. The pool is already changing!

Finally, the ph is at 7.2!!! It only took 220oz of MA....yikes! Going to add bleach and start the SLAMming! Wish me luck :) Btw, according to PoolMath, my Ph was over 10.

Ha! That's what I'm thinking! This is ridiculous! Dh and my nephew have been in the pool for awhile now, vacuuming and brushing walls down. When they get out I'll add more, I won't be able to check it until after we get back from soccer.

That's what I read, and it seems to be true. Newer MA didn't lower it either. So I'll be adding more :/

It's 31.45. After my post I realized the MA I was using wasn't from last summer, but the summer before. Maybe it lost potency? I'll be testing in about 20 mins.

I've added 132oz of MA so far, and my ph is still reading 8.2. I have to go to lowes now and get more. I've never had ph this high and stubborn before. I'm so ready to start SLAMming this pool! What would cause it to get that high? Like I said earlier, the pump has been off for over a month...

It's a cartridge filter, listed in my sig. I'll try that method. Thank you!

Can someone explain how to vacuum to waste, please. I have a pool rover, but it gets clogged within minutes. I bought a vacuum head from Lowes yesterday, it connects to a hose and then the hose connects to the skimmer plate (I think that is the correct term). Am I able to vacuum to waste with...

You're right, I haven't added any chlorine yet. Dang, I really was hoping I was done with the MA!

Re: So embarrassed.... I added 43oz of MA, per PoolMath, an hour ago. I've checked my ph twice and it's still at 8.2. Could my ph be higher than 8.2? The pump hasn't been running in about a month, if that matters. The MA is from last year, I just opened it today. Any insight?

Re: So embarrassed.... Holy cow! 4 gallons? I thought 43oz was bad. I borated our first pool (16' intex), and I loved it! I never got around to doing this one last year. Maybe this year I'll do it. You're going to love it! The water feels softer and is so sparkly!

Re: So embarrassed.... The closest Sam's is an hour away, and we aren't members. We use Costco, but it's just as far, so it's not really cost effective unless we're in the area already.
