    Testing quality of chlorine

We are using 12.5%. We added some of the chlorine we just purchased and waited an hour and we have a reading! Yay! I think we should be fine now..and will start the shock process. I am still curious to find out if the older bottles are useable, and to what extent they are effective yet.

    Testing quality of chlorine

I am assuming we should shock, but I guess first I wanted to see if there are any suggestions as how to test the effectivness of chlorine. Thanks!

    Testing quality of chlorine

Yesterday I noticed a funny cloudiness to the pool but chalked it up to the sky being cloudy. Now today it is evident that it is very cloudy (can't see the bottom of the 8ft. deep end). I tested it and expected FC to be about 6, but it's at 0!? This was after adding 128 oz. yeserday. I had...

    Using Dichlor to Shock

thanks!! I used the The Effects of Adding Chemicals section of the Pool Calculator and it says that dichlor adds 2.4 CYA for each 16oz used. Does that seem right for a pool of 24,000 gal? Someone posted that for every 10ppm FC you add 9ppm CYA when using dichlor. So if that is the case, and...

    Using Dichlor to Shock

Our pH is 7.6 I knew I was forgetting to list something! I will read that over again. I read it all but I must have missed where it says about using dichlor...I will look some more. We generally use liquid, so just a little confused on using this product.

    Using Dichlor to Shock

This is our 2nd year with our pool. We filled the pool back up (it was drained below the returns. We tested the water after getting the pump/filter running and our tests said CYA 0, FC 0 of course, TA 90, and we have a vinyl liner so we haven't tested the CH yet. Last year we started out...

Little bits floating in the pool

Okay. That's good to know. How would we know when it's time to replace sand in the filter? We've never even opened it up - no idea of the condition or how long it's been in there.

Little bits floating in the pool

Last season, we were new to our pool. We finally got all of the older equip. running and water sparkly clean...or so we thought. We noticed when swimming with goggles that were all kinds of little things floating in the water. While standing in the water, the pool looked super clear and so...

    Adding floater to pool

Earlier this summer, before we really new better, we were just using the floaters and they were under the cover most of the time and they seemed to do okay. They are very low profile, so they actually will move around a little bit with the cover on. If we do have an issue with it affecting the...

    Adding floater to pool

I guess my question still is...can I add a floater with trichlor tabs to a pool that uses liquid chlorine and is at shock level. Is it okay to mix those types of chlorine when they are dispersed in a big pool?

    Adding floater to pool

We still plan to cover it...I just wasn't sure if it would last. We get lots of tree debris (little stuff) if the pool even with the solar cover on. I am just worried that it won't hold it above an fc level of 4 for 9 days. When I use the Pool Calc. and plugged in my info it indicated to...

    Adding floater to pool

Hello! We are headed out of town for 9 days. Last night we decided it would be best to bring the pool up to shock level, so we did. The plan was to put the solar cover on and leave. Now this morning I am having second thoughts if that will keep our pool at a high enough level while we are gone...

Okay! I will put them in a bucket. Thanks so much!

    Getting rid of Trichlor Pucks

What would you do with the remaining pucks that are in the water right now - throw them away? Save them for later? I don't know if there is a safety concern or not. The container says not to take them out of the water for more than 5 minutes, but it doesn't explain why - so I am left wondering...

    Getting rid of Trichlor Pucks

We have two floaters in our pool with about 5 half-dissolved trichlor pucks each. We bought the pucks before we found TFP and would like to use them up as much as we can - so we have been using them carefully so far this summer. This morning my CYA read 50 (up from 41 a week ago). I think we...

    Hook up our heater?

racket, You are a genius! I did exactly as you suggested and it fired right up!!! CraigMW, Yep, it is a Raypak Gemini 3. The timer does also control the pump. I found that link to the manuals prior and the parts listing, but I never found a wiring diagram. Thanks though! Thanks for the...

    Hook up our heater?

Yes, it is a RayPak. The thermostat is on the side. SO, maybe that is our answer! I'll check that out.

    Hook up our heater?

Thanks for the tip on the grommet. I'll do something about that myself. This is a low voltage wire that is coming from the pool timer box, so no ground is needed (the timer itself is grounded). GFI outlets have been installed, they are just not in the pics. I am thinking that these two...

    Hook up our heater?

Can anyone offer any suggestions to help us hook up our heater? The pool guy came over in May and started it by jumping it. It "ran" for a bit but the pool wasn't ready to be heated so it was turned off. Then last week we had an electrician out to make sure all was up to code and he discovered...

New to pools - which cleaner?

a PM with cbb77 confirmed that they still like their new mx8. We have just received our Pool Skim today (top cleaner - it is like an extra skim, but runs on return flow). It was easy to install and it works great. Although it is a bit fragile - remove when kids enter. -Mike

    Should pool water be blue?

Sarah and I saw the blue hue again, but this time we made no large changes. We think it may be due to the time of day/angle of sunlight after all. -Mike

Manual Vac Issues same with automatic vac?

I was told that by my very reputable pool company. They would not lie, nor dare have incorrect information on file from the previous owner, LOL. You might be on to something here. Here is my best guess: 18ft*38ft*3.5*0.5 = 1197 18ft*38ft*8.0*0.5 = 2736 (high estimate, as the deep end slopes...
