    Quick CYA Question

What is the shelf life of CYA, assuming it is stored well? I am looking at prices and I can get 15#'s for about $10 more than 4#'s. I don't need that much, and 15#'s would probably last me 2 seasons comfortably. So, should I just buy what I need or can I over buy and store for next season?

What Has Become My Annual Thank You Post

I still remember the first time I hit this forum. I had purchased a short sale, and when I opened the pool in the Spring I had a huge mess on my hands. Never having owned a pool, let alone a large in ground pool before, I did what most of us do. I went to the pool store. The biggest...

best way to repair deck concrete?

That's a tough one. The problem you have it that you have a pretty substantial crack that is always going to be susceptible to water. Having said that, it looks like it dropped to the bottom of the photo you provided. Something is happening in that corner to cause it to drop. For that...

HELP ME!! Been trying to open for over 3 weeks

Why did you put 16 gallons in and not 15 or 17? What did you base this on? In other words, have you used the calculator to determine how much to add? Have you tested the Cl levels since you put the bleach in? The bottom line is assuming you even put enough in to achieve shock level it is...

    Spider Gasket Help

Thank you, my friend. I will check it out. For the time being I managed to reinstall the existing gasket and make it work. I noticed that on the poly shroud that housed the gasket, one side was chipped and the tab that held the gasket in place at that spot was broken off. So, I...

    Spider Gasket Help

Yeah, I saw that too. I am clinging to the shred of hope that since that assembly doesn't have the hex bolt pattern that mine does, and the gasket is white, that it's better news. Plus, who the halibut puts a control valve on a 30,000 gallon pool that was designed for a koi pond?!? :hammer:

    Spider Gasket Help

Well, I just posted about my fantastically easy opening and now I have an issue. I noticed my water level was falling. I was puzzled. I have a couple patches but I can see them and they looked OK. I waded into the shallow end to check them and literally couldn't believe how cold it was...

Thanks and a Word of Encouragement

I just wanted to thank this site and it's contributors for a great opening this season. This is my third season and I have had the easiest start-up yet. I have been open less than 48 hours and my water is clear. It has been a strange "Spring" here in MN, and I decided to get a jump on things...

    Pool Pole Replacement Questions

Yeah, this pole came with the pool/house and it has worked well so far but not having purchased it myself, I have no point of reference. Perfect. The Skimlite it is. I checked out their site and it looks cool. Would have never found it without this site! Thanks, guys!

    Pool Pole Replacement Questions

Hello. Well, my 12 year old son (behaving like a 12 year old boy), basically broke our telescoping brush handle. He bent it and since it is aluminum, when he attempted to bend it back it broke. It is now functionally about 2/3 as long as it was. I can only state I was relieved when I heard...

    Need Help Identifying Drain Plug

Well, I did some more digging and the only assembly I can find close to it is this one: http://www.poolpartsonline.com/popup.as ... ze%3dlarge This is a waterway 505-2020. Does anybody have any experience with these?

    Need Help Identifying Drain Plug

Well, the next act in this saga is I went to HD and Ace. The fitting is not NPT, it is fine threaded more like a compression fitting but nobody has anything even close to the size I need so that was a dead end. I think the problem was caused by over tightening because the male thread on the...

    Need Help Identifying Drain Plug

Yeah, I think you are right. A trip to the Depot is needed. I guess I will have to further bungie rig it. I wish I were suprised that this pool store won't call me back. It's a shame when things like this are the norm but it seems customer service is truly a lost art. Additionally, I...

    Need Help Identifying Drain Plug

Thanks for the reply. You basically underscored the crux of the issue. I have the manual and the part numbers and have seen them in person and what I have is nothing like them. Not even close. I then called Hayward and showed them the picture and they said it did not belong on the filter, in...

    Need Help Identifying Drain Plug

Just spoke to Hayward and emailed them the picture. They state the plug is a pipe cap and they have no idea where the screen came from. Pool store has still not called me back to identify it and provide parts. Does anybody know of a manufacturer that would make a screen like this? This is a...

    Need Help Identifying Drain Plug

I have a 2 year old Hayward Sand Filter S244T. It was installed before we bought the home. My drain plug is leaking and the Pool Supply store that installed it apparently used a non-Hayward part. I have gone to them to get help identifying it and replacing it but they are taking their time...

Blowing out deep end floor returns.

Dude, thanks so much for this info. As soon as I read this I went and got a quick connect and it solved my 10' deep floor drain problem. I used a shop vac for the 2 skimmer/returns (which worked fine) but next season I will just rock all three with my compressor from the pump. Go raibh maith...

Algae Colony That Needs to Get Fire Bombed

OK. Thanks for your replies. Wife and kids are heading out of town until Monday so I will crank up the Cl and brush it like it's my job this weekend and see what happens. Like I said, it is odd because the water is sparkly and looks real good. It has had lots of use the last 2 weeks and I am...

Algae Colony That Needs to Get Fire Bombed

So, CYA is 40, TA is 110, TC was 6 at 8:00 tonight, raised to 8. pH is 7.6. Water is clear, CC is 0. I have passed the ONCLT 2 nights in a row but I am still getting a little bit of growth on the shady side of the liner. It appears about every other day, I brush it off and it doesn't cloud...
