    Solar cover - 8/12/16 mil?

I'm looking at buying a new solar cover, but not sure what thickness to go with. I see prices go up with thickness, and I gather that thicker cover would equal more heating. But are there any disadvantages to a thicker cover? I will use it on a 16x24 oval in-ground pool with a solar reel.

    Pool opening roll call!!

I'm in Northeast Wisconsin. Average temps : March: 41/24, April: 55/37, May: 67/48 Like everyone, temps have been really warm lately - more like early summer with temps in the 70s (pushing 80 this weekend). I haven't measured water temp, but one week ago, we had a foot or so of ice, so it's...

    Why have a pool cover?

Thank you all. So if we get a winter cover (I was looking at these ones: http://www.bestbuypoolsupply.com/in-gro ... cover.html), what is the recommended size (we have a bump-out step so I will have to figure that out)? Is there a formula based on how low the water is dropped and the amount of...

    Closing Kit

Went to the Pool Store to talk about closing, and they were selling a Closing Kit that contains two bottles: MetalFree and PhosFree. The idea seems to be to remove phosphates and deactivate metals to prevent stains. Any thoughts on this?

    Why have a pool cover?

We're getting to the end of our 1st season with an in-ground vinyl pool, and will be closing soon. We don't have a winter cover, as we talked to someone who said they just kept the leaves out with the net until the water froze. So, I'm wondering what is the primary purpose of the cover during...

    Swamp to pool conversion

Yes, bubble side down on the solar cover. And it really does help to keep temps up during cool nights, and warm the water on sunny days.

    Swamp to pool conversion

Around here I can often find 10-12.5% shock at better prices then regular clorine. Me ares has been a good source.

    16x24 ABG Doughboy inground

Thanks. Concrete only goes all the way up the pool by the steps. Around the sides, there's about an inch clearance so they can get at the screws to take the cap off for a liner change down the road. We went with the ABG inground because that's what the pool builder was doing. And it was...

    16x24 ABG Doughboy inground

We finished our pool project, and I thought I'd show it off - we think it came together quite nicely. Thank you to all users on the site for advice. Yard before getting started (we'd had a 16' Intex last year): Seen from above - stakes and boards to outline the pool and deep/shallow end...

    Intex Pool Sinking

We had a 16' Intex Ultra Frame pool last year that was installed on too wet soil. We cut some decking boards (they have nice round edges, so we didn't risk having anything sharp up against the liner). We did have the boards in place before putting up pool, but due to the wet soil, some of them...

    Thoughts on HomeSwimmer?

We've been looking at purchasing a HomeSwimmer system to be able to do stationary exercise swimming in our pool. Has anyone had any experience with it? http://www.amazon.com/o/ASIN/B000KD9H5G ... raddons-20 I've been trying to figure out how the bottom piece that goes in the water works, and...

how do you pour bleach without it splashing?

When pouring small amounts (1-2 quarts), I first pour into a measuring cup, and them from there into the pool. No splashing. I do like JamesW's suggestion, though.

    Variable speed pump?

We'll be getting our 16x24 oval Doughboy in the next month or so (AG installed IG). About 10k gallons. Dealer specified Power Pak III 1 HP pump. This doesn't seem like a variable speed pump? Would you recommend a variable speed? What models? Quote says $548 for the pump.

    Which SWG to choose?

We'll be getting an inground pool installed in the next month or so. Looking at SWCG units now. Pool will be Doughboy 16x24 (AG installed IG) - not sure yet on deep end, but we should end up in the 10k gallon range. The local pool store is offering the Pentair Intellichlor for about $900. I...
