Have algae on walls - test shows high TA

Yes - I'd love to hear how the remodel goes. The hardest part will be to convince my husband that it needs to be done. ;-) Thanks!

Have algae on walls - test shows high TA

Sorry - The CH is 310. I'll watch the chlorine better. Also - I bought one of those whale brushes. It really does make it easier to brush down the sides of the pool. Thanks again - Kathy

Have algae on walls - test shows high TA

Hi again - I've finished the SLAM (CC = 0, passed the over night test, no visible algae) so I'm letting the chlorine level go back to normal. Here are my numbers: pH = 7.2 TC = 7 TA = 130 CYA = 35 What should I do now? I think that the TA is too high and the pH is too low. thanks...

Have algae on walls - test shows high TA

That brush looks great and has good reviews. I'll get one. My husband helps, but he had dislocated his shoulders multiple times over his 63 years and can't brush for long or hard. This should help. Thanks!

Have algae on walls - test shows high TA

I switched from Walmart bleach to Pool Chlorinating Liquid (10%) that I bought at Lowe's. I am brushing & brushing, but noticed that it is harder to get it to come off the walls. The pool will be 20 years old next spring and has not been re-plastered. The surface is not smooth. I'm wondering if...

Have algae on walls - test shows high TA

I'm sorry - I had the CYA written down, but didn't type it in. It is 40. So according to the table, my shock chlorine level is 16. That is what I'm trying to keep.

Have algae on walls - test shows high TA

I have already brushed when I saw your lastest answer. The water is clear, but since the surface is not smooth the algae sticks to it. I've started the slam and will let you know how it goes. Thanks

Have algae on walls - test shows high TA

I live near Dallas, where the water temp in the summer is 85 (and we have a lot of shade on the pool). I slammed the pool early this summer and it looked good. In July we had a leak in the skimmer plumbing & got it repaired. The CYA had to be raised since we added so much water. Again - levels &...

    New Non-stabilized chlorine tablets

Yes - they are Poolife NST tablets. I'll have to check my calcium, but it looks like I'll stick to basic bleach and use normal floaters when I'm on vacation. Thanks to everyone for your help.

    New Non-stabilized chlorine tablets

I recently saw non-stabilized chlorine tablets at my local pool shop. They contain Calcium Hypochlorite but no stabilizer. They are supposed to go in the skimmer and not floaters because water has to run over them. I am wondering if anyone has tried them or have any information about them...

Need help deciding between MasterTemp or Raypack heater

Thank you everyone for responding. I just told my installer to go with the Raypak. And I'll try to run it at least once a month to keep it working well.

Need help deciding between MasterTemp or Raypack heater

Hi! First I'd like to thank everyone at TFP. I've learned so much since I've found this site. I'll never go to Leslie's again. Thank you! The heater that came w/ my pool (Mar 2004) is a Pentair MiniMax NT Low NOx 400 BTU natural gas heater. We've had to fix it up numerous times over the years...

Would like advice on which pool cleaner to get

My pool is 10 years old. It came with a Ray Vac cleaner. That worked ok for 4 years then needed repairs. We paid the money and got another 2 years out of it. We then replaced it with a Hayward Phantom (adding the booster pump at that same time). This worked very well with no problems - I just...

    Pool water has gotten cloudy

Thanks. I started the shock process as soon as I saw the responses. I have a Taylor K-2005 test kit and a FAS-DPT test. I also had the store test (since I was there to get some reagent).

    Pool water has gotten cloudy

My pool water started getting cloudy yesterday. Today it is even worse. My chlorine was a little low (I added bleach an hour ago), but that has never made it cloudy before. Does anyone have suggestions? I cleaned the cartridges a few weeks ago. I run the filter from 9a-7p. I had to go to the...

Has anyone heard of Pool Proof - Borate Water Harmonizer?

Re: Has anyone heard of Pool Proof - Borate Water Harmonizer Thanks, I will read about borates more. But that brings up another question. If I bring the CYA up to 50, looking at the Chlorine/CYA table, it looks like the chlorine needs to be 6 to be effective. That seems high. My Taylor test...

Has anyone heard of Pool Proof - Borate Water Harmonizer?

Has anyone heard of Pool Proof? I saw a YouTube video that said it is a Borate Water Harmonizer (whatever that means). Our local Dolphin Pools (a much smaller chain than Leslies that seems more trustworthy) has been advertising it. They say that one treatment a year will keep us from having...

How can I know if my chlorine is up to shock level?

Thanks. I've had the pool for 8 years, but wasted 7 of them (not to mention all the money along with 2 drains & re-fills) listening to the "Pros" at Leslies. Thank you for this site.

How can I know if my chlorine is up to shock level?

Hi. I have the start of algae on my pool walls. I shocked the other day, but it is coming back. After reading your site I realize it is a process not a 1-time thing. I was wondering how I know if my FC is up to shock level (12)? My Taylor test kit only shows up to 5. Should I just go ahead and...

can't get & keep chlorine levels high enough

Is the FAS-DPD test another test kit that I should buy? I have a Taylor K-2005, and don't see anything about FSD-DPD, so should I get a different kit? Does the K-2006 contain what I need to do the overnight fc test? thanks.

can't get & keep chlorine levels high enough

Should I continue to add bleach in the evenings? Or in the mornings so the level will be higher when my kids want to swim? Thanks for your help.

can't get & keep chlorine levels high enough

I'm new to the BBB method. I just drained & refilled because my CYA levels were sky high (>200) thanks to Leslie's "help". This was only 18 months after draining/refilling because of high calcium (again, thanks Leslie's). I'm still learning the BBB method, but already feel more in control. But...

Refilling pool after drain (CYA way too high)

Thanks. I did the acid and it is now back to 7.4. CYA is 0 (since I it is full of city tap water now). I'll have to get some CYA tomorrow to bring it up. It seems strange to add CYA after having to drain due to too much. For tonight, I put in some of the Leslie's tabs that I have that have...

Refilling pool after drain (CYA way too high)

I had to drain at least 75% of the water, so we decided to drain almost all of it since we had rented the pump and had just done a drain & refill 18 months ago because of calcium. We got in trouble again because we used the Leslie's chlorine (w/ CYA). So I add the acid first to reduce pH. Can...
