    Pool renovation/replaster - choosing contractor

Thanks for the advice. I guess my related question is am I harming the pool by having this delayed into who-knows-when? I have been lurking here for some time and am a full-time SLAM devotee. :) Thank you guys so much for this resource.

    Pool renovation/replaster - choosing contractor

Hi all, Well it's that time. I purchased a home with my first pool which is a 20,000 galloon in-ground concrete pool. It looked beautiful at the time and was just refinished to sell the home. I suppose that maybe should have been a red flag as I opened the pool for the first time in the spring...

Scale and Rising pH over Winter

Thanks. Anyone have any particular recommendation for a cheap submersible pump I could chuck in there?

Scale and Rising pH over Winter

I actually did not shock at closing. Just added the quat algecide. I actually would be a little challenged to test the water over the winter with the safety cover on and the water being a few feet below the skimmer! I'm in central Virginia so there is some freeze potential here for a few...

Scale and Rising pH over Winter

Hi, I really appreciate this forum and the pool calculatory. As a former chemistry major it was extremely intuitive to me. :) My troubles with my pool begin when I purchased our home 2.5 years ago. The pool was freshly replastered that year (2010) and winterized. I opened it to a high pH and...

    Acuracy of Salt Test Strips

I didn't have a way to isolate my main drain so one problem is that the salt is heavier than the water and so the salinity of the bottom of the pool is higher and won't get pulled up by skimmers. Just hooked up my pool vac and left it on the bottom overnight which improved my readings...

    Tan/Brown Staining Question

OK good to know. Since I'm switching to a SWG pretty soon I probably will go ahead and start getting my CH back up since the salt seems to add quite a bit to the CSI. I'll report back with the results of the AA test. Do not have access to a chlorine puck but I'll see what I can find. It...

    Tan/Brown Staining Question

Yeah I did read about the vitamin C test which I will give a shot. If it does end up being calcium scale, where should I keep my CSI for a "chronic" treatment? Currently I'm slightly under -0.6 which is getting into corrosive water. Would it be better to have a lower pH and a moderate level of...

    Tan/Brown Staining Question

Sort of but more tan. There is definitely some patterning to it. Hopefully the pictures later will be more helpful. I did get a stainless steel pool brush which so far has not done a whole lot to it. I do see some cloudiness when I brush it but that could just be dirt on the bottom too. :)...

    Tan/Brown Staining Question

Hey guys, Really enjoy this forum. I, like many with "pool questions" inherited a beautiful 20k in-ground plaster finished pool with my new house in central Virginia. The pool underwent an overhaul about 1.5 years ago with a new plaster finish and brickwork/tiling around the edge of the...
