    Pool friendly trees

"Windmill Fan Palm" It has a hairy trunk. I have seen them growing on the Normandy Coast of France. Check the map, it gets a little nippy there in the winters.

How much concrete decking should we get around our pool?

Lots of opinions on size for sure. As for material, it is easy to fix a cracked paver. The next time I pour concrete, there will be rebar in it. We took extra care when we poured and inspite of that we still have some cracks. The old adage is true: If you don't want cracks in your concrete...

    Installing a polaris 380 in a pool w/o a cleaner return

If you go below the water line, and there is a problem, then it will be much bigger than a problem above the water line. PaulR says his is not below the water line. Unless you are confident that you can do it without leaks, I would go in above the water.

Polaris 380 has a hole in lower housing

They sell complete kits for rebuilding that unit. douglee25 nailed it; save yourself $$$ and get it on line unless you know a guy that can buy it from a wholesaler.

Autopilot salt reading versus strip salt reading

I think you need to confirm the size of your pool. If I remember correctly, you have to tell the Autopilot the pool volume. If you you lie to it, it will be confused.

    goldline swg

X2 on what the boss said. Heyward's contribution, from my experience, was to increase the price of a replacement cell by around $100. Goldline had been making that unit for years prior to their acquisition by Heyward. I checked the link and that price was for the power unit only. I think...

Getting shocked when swimming near pool lights

X2 on what Bama Rambler said. This is a bonding issue. Neutrals can also be a factor but not if the bonding is done correctly. The problem with the grounds could easily be the culprit. The type of mild shock you are describing often ocurrs when there is an ungrounded circuit and a person...

Upstate NY, April 26th. Should I open it up?

I use to live in Rome New York. While there, I learned that Upstate is relative. Folks in NYC think "Upstate" is West of Manhatan and North of Queens. For me, it was those guys up in Watertown. LOL

I don't disagree with the variability in ORP probes. The same can be said for the pH probes. ORP probes measure the potential available which will be primarily associated with FC. But what is actually being measured is the potential to transfer electrons. The molecules associated with CC...

    accidental chemist

It is looking at CC. The pH being stable and in-range is critical for this system to control properly. It is basically measuring the presence of the components needed to oxidize contaminants. Here is a quote lifted from a cut sheet on an industrial ORP sensor "Finally, ORP is measured...

Why are there worms in my pool?

Your pool is so nice and they all know you do not go out in the rain. So the worms sneak over there and jump in. Then, they realize they do not have arms................

    Septic Question

The tank should have a baffle to keep solids out and pumping it makes sense since you are going to have to dig it up anyway to figure out what is going on. I have never seen one installed with a way to get to the drain field without going through the tank. How far is the nearest tree and what...

Taylor Complete High DPD Chlorine 0.5 -5.0, pH, Acid & Base demand, TA, Calcium Hardness, and CA. I typically only test TA, harness and stabilizer since the watermatic does the rest. I clean the probes and standardize the pH probe usually once a year.

    accidental chemist

Well I am new to the site but not new to pools. After paying a guy to care for my pool, his boss took over and screwed it up. I canned the idiot, purchased a Taylor complete test kit, started to learn about pool chemistry. Being inherently lazy, I purchased a Polaris Watermatic pH and orp...
