    Borates, heard of Solubor?

Chem Geek, I read Your great post on Borates. I noticed there were concerns about the Borax turning into undissociated Boric Acid. In the MSDS of this source of Solubor it contains this. Environmental Fate Data Persistence/Degradation: Boron is naturally occurring and ubiquitous in the...

    Borates, heard of Solubor?

Awesome! I was reading MSDS and thought it would be ok, but to be sure I thought I'd check here! Can't believe I missed that thread! So it's twice as potent as 20 mule team Borax and not as much of an acid demand. Good deal! Thank You very much! Can't buy any til spring, but I'll be ok til...

    Phosphate questions

IF you are gone or neglect pool, it may or will turn on you regardless of phosphates. Once algae starts it produces it's own phosphates, which is why during an algae outbreak your Phos. count is higher. If you are looking for a "forgiving pool" I have found that adding Borates can help...

    New pool questions

Read in pool school how to shock your pool. Personally, I do quite long backwashes, 4-5 mins, i feel this thoroughly flushes most of the debris out of the filter. I have found by doing this I backwash less often too! My 9 foot deep end I can tell if a dime is heads or tails while standing on...

High Phosphates - but no algae - treat?

Being in the industry, they couldn't find anything wrong with your water. So they go for the sure fire thing! The Phosphate test! That is usually a sure fire sale when al else fails! IMHO I'd invest the $$$ into some Borates for your pool. True, with a Phos. level in excess of 2000, that is...

Green Algae for over 8 weeks

With that high a level of CYA (in excess of 150) you will need to drain as much as possible and refill. If not, you may win this battle, but you will lose the war, so to speak. Unless and until your CYA is under control, you will not have your pool under control. IMHO. :blah: Good Luck!!!

    Liquid Chlorine and TDS

They sell it there, $5.99 for a 10 litre jug, 2.6 gallons 12% I in Canada it seems, liquid chlorine is much more readily available. heck, you can grab a jug while you are filling up your car at the gas station, they charge a bit more though. While in the states I found it difficult to find...

    Liquid Chlorine and TDS

Well I get deal pre-pay for 10 jugs $49.99 Each jug is 10 litres or approx. 2.6 gallons. $4.99 for 2.6 gallons of 12% soduim hypochlorite. For what it's worth I found an animal feed store, generally farmers go there. I got arm and hammer baking soda said food grade right on the bag. 25Kg bag...

    Device to measure muriatic acid

Personally, I just guesstimate, since we're talking about thousands of gallons of water. As I read here before, not making rocket fuel. On old plastic measuring cup would work fine since it's only gonna be in it for a minute at a time.

    2 Filter system?

Thanks for the replies! To run them in series I will still need to bypass sand filter to charge the DE filter. To me it would make sense to have the water go through the sand first then the DE. I thought about just adding the DE to the sand, but if I've got the filter, may as well use it.

    2 Filter system?

Anyone ever try a 2 filter system? Have sand filter now, pool looks great, but for the sake of tinkering, I have a pentair 66 warior DE filter from my old pool. Currently running a 1hp. Super pump II. Can they be run in series(through the sand then the DE) or just 1 or the other. I ust...

Green to Blue has me seeing red

Without knowing the chemical composition of the "green to blue" it is difficult to say what is the best way to go. What type of DE filter do you have? I you are able to remove your DE grids, you could try a floccing product to settle residue to bottom and vacuum right out of your pool. This is...

Question- Preparing to Shock but CYA is ZERO

Shocking with no CYA is better than not at all. Start early evening, that will give liquid all night to work. It will be difficult to maintain a chlorine level during the day without CYA. Good luck and welcome!

First test of year after new liner and refill

By stating that you had a swamp last year, you replaced liner and water. Only thing remaining is the sand, did you clean it thoroughly?

URGENT: gas pipe diameter for Hayward H250FDN!!!

According to CSA and TSSA code, a run of 80 feet on 1 inch black pipe can handle 290,000btu, however, with elbows and other factors, I would recommend as You did with the 11/4 pipe. Your installer is correct though-sort of. If Your manual calls for bigger pipe, it is best to go with it for...

So you want to add borates to your pool--Why and How

4:1 ratio? I just did mine and used 10 boxes borax to 3 gallons of acid (3.33:1) and even then, I could add a little more acid as the pH is now around 7.6 - 7.65 (so hard to tell!) so perhaps 3:1 would be just right for me. Until the pH is a definite 7.7, I'm going to leave it alone. It looks...

Issue with PH going up due to SWG pool

I work in a pool store and I have found that borates really do help PH in a SWG pool. You will have a fair expense in achieving a 50ppm borate level, but once there IMHO it would be well worth in when calculating all the other benefits that borates offer. According to http://poolcalculator.com...

Help with my Blue Cloud that is my pool

Filtration, filtration, filtration! I quick lesson I learnered and found is that people don't backwash there sand filters long enough. So you want to add borates to your pool--Why and How

Just did my pool here in Canada. Very easy. What I did was for every box of Borax I added 1 litre of Acid. I added 4 boxes waited about 30-45 mins for residual borax to dissolve in the skimmer. When adding 4 boxes of Borax, I added 4 litres of acid which is right around 1 gallon. 4 boxes...
