    Teading PH comparator difficulty

I remembered an older test kid in th closet and low and behold it had the 9056 with some very old R004. I tried running a test and it came out looking like fire engine red! Old reagent obviously. In looking at the color scale, I would probably struggle with this one too. Wish there was a drop...

    Teading PH comparator difficulty

I always seem to struggle reading Ph scales on the test comparator. I have tried using a variety of backgrounds and lighting and since my pool has always been an "acid eater", I test nearly every day. Is there another Ph test kit with better resolution or an easier to read scale? Almost forgot...

    Muratic Acid/ Ph automation questions

OK, chlorine use is consistantly 2 per day, so adding 27 oz of 12.5% per day. CYA is between 25-30. Starting off lower in case I tried using pucks for a while. Should be cooling off soon which will probably reduce CL consumption even more. Make-up water is at 7.6/110. Have tried no acid addition...

    Muratic Acid/ Ph automation questions

Unfortunately, I am having the exact same issue with the Pebblesheen as I did with the previous 14 yr old plaster! I almost switched back to pucks aftet the refinish but decided the CYA issue wasn't worth it. TA has gone from 110 after fill to 60 bbecause of the acid addition and ph rise has not...

    Muratic Acid/ Ph automation questions

Even after lowering TA, raising Ph, no aeration, etc... I am still having to add MA dailey. Ph rises .2-.3 per day. I was considering adding a Stenner for chlorine but am rethinking that MA is a bigger issue. I have read with interest the posts on the Simpool setup but availability is an issue...

    Stenner pump timer questions.

Thanks! Downloaded the manual and found the wiring diagram. Makes sense now. I see the 15 gal drum is back in stock also. Will probably wait a paycheck or two since we just had yhe pool refinished last week. Are the blue drums opaque or do you have to fab a guage similar to the one I saw here?

    Stenner pump timer questions.

Since I use 12.5% liquid chlorine I assume about 2hrs. a day? Not sure about the off delay timer operation. I would like to somehow add another 220V Intermatic because of their reliability vs anything electronic in our Arizona heat. Whatever timer I use must be 220V because ther is no neutral...

    Stenner pump timer questions.

Seriously considering the Stenner pump route. Thinking a fixed output (3gpd) model would be ok. Pool is 14000 gals.. How long would this pump run assuming a 2-3 ppm chlorine loss per day? My pump is on an Intermatic 220volt timer. I would like to add anothet timer for the Stenner but am unsure...

    Liquidator or Stenner Pump

If the LQ does not effect the Ph and TDS issues as they claim, perhaps the Stenner setup is the better route. More consistant chlorine addition and after the mods (Hayward valve, Tygon tubing, fixing leaks,etc...) the Stenner pump setup isn't much more money. I am dying to start testing after...

    Liquidator or Stenner Pump

I performed a little survey at work and out of 23 other pool owners, I am the only one having to add acid on a constant basis. Coincidentally, I am the only one using liquid chlorine (Walmart brand). TA has been religously kept at 60. As for the users whose ph is being lowered, I don't...

    Liquidator or Stenner Pump

Seems to be the consensus with other users here. Even though the experts here say liquid chlorine doesn't raise ph levels, my experience and many others who post here are having to add acid several times a week. Bad bleach or liquid chlorine? Standard answers like aeration, TA too highand add...

    Liquidator or Stenner Pump

Considering both options. Has anyone actually tested salt levels in the pool when using the LQ? Supposedly, salt,etc.. is removed and deposited in the bottom of the tank. Ph is also supposed to be reduced according to their info. Any truth to this?

    Leslies DE scoop

Thanks for the response. I took the posters experience with packing it down to get 1pound in the scoop. Filter is a 36 which calls for 4.5 lbs, so 4.5 packed scoops. Pool is being drained as I speak in preparation for new Pebblesheen. Just trying to make sure everything is good to go on start-up!

    Leslies DE scoop

I was the original poster on that thread and it's the reason I am posting again. Answers were all over the map on that one! Just disassembled/cleaned and am trying to get a definitive answer. Google search netted answers that varied pretty dramatically.

    Tablets and CYA

Some of my issues are self induced such as working 12hr days and procrastinating on testing. However, my constantly rising Ph level is a big issue. Lowering alkalinity to 60 had no effect and I have no aeration. Last summer I had an RO treatment (to hot here to drain) and my TDS levels were the...

    Tablets and CYA

My own experience with BBB isn't as smooth sailing as others apparently. I am also in Mesa, AZ and have bee n plagued by high Ph, CH and disolved solids issues. Perhaps I am not backwashing as often and splashout is minimal. I am thinking about using a combination of pucks/ liquid chlorine and...

    Tablets and CYA

I have a lot of friends and neighbors with pools and when I tell them I use the BBB method they just laugh. "You test your levels nearly everyday? You add stuff how often? I rarely have to add acid. Etc...." Just pondering if high CYA level are as bad as their supposed to be, why am I the only...

    Tablets and CYA

If tablets add 6ppm of CYA for every 10 ppm of chlorine why wouldn't most of the millions of pools using them be filled with algae? In only 3 months time CYA levels should be over 100ppm and I would guess that most of these users only run their chlorine between 3 and 5 and rarely backwash or...

    Aqua blue Penblesheen

Thanks for posting the photos! Both of these pools are beautiful. The color is exactly what I am hoping for. The installer will give me a job or two to go look at but only after I've signed a basic contract to go with them. I can kind of understand this as there are 2 Pebblesheen installers in...

    Aqua blue Penblesheen

"Windexy" is just how I have heard some refer to it. Looking at the little Pebblesheen samples I believe it is the most blue mix if that makes sense. Really looking to stay away from any green or grey. The whites look nice but might show any stains more readily. The tile we are leaning towards...

    Faux Waterfall?

Does anyone have experience with the faux waterfalls sold by Poolrock.com? I believe these are the same waterfalls as Universal rock. They really look beautiful on their website and pricing seems reasonable. We are having our 13 yr old plaster refinished in Pebblesheen and new waterline tile in...

Zodiac MX8 or The Pool Cleaner???

Okay, the score is 2 to 0 in favor of the MX8. Just another point I was considering is that since most local pool stores sell the MX8 (at inflated prices), parts would be available locally vs the Pool Cleaner. I stopped at Leslies to look at the MX8 and though they had a display model, I was...

Zodiac MX8 or The Pool Cleaner???

Okay, I have put this off as long as I can. My PoolVac Ultra is about dead and I have narrowed my choices to these two. I am leaning toward the MX8 because it looks like the more effective cleaner. Just watching the You Tube videos it picks up everything in its path where as the PooCleaner...

Rebuild Pool Vac Ultra or the Pool Cleaner?

What happened to all the Pool Ceaner proponents out there? I have a 18x36 kidney shaped play pool that goes from 3' to 5.5' with the suction port at about the middle. Would there be any real advantage to the 4 wheel vs the 2 wheel? The Pool Vac Ultra spends a lot of its runtime just recovering...
