Intellichlor IC40 Flow Switch Replacement Question

Troubleshooting my Pentair IC40 SWG which has constant RED NO FLOW light. Acid cleaning didn't help and there wasn't much buildup anyway. Began to think the flow switch was bad. Found a thread elsewhere that said to short the RED and BLACK wires going to the IC40 to confirm flow switch is bad...

Can't get TF-100 CYA test to work

It didn't get cloudy at all. I had the same thought about the possibility there is no CYA. I just added some CYA so I'll try to test again in a few days.

Can't get TF-100 CYA test to work

I believe I'm doing the test correctly. I have a 4lb bottle of solid stabilizer on hand so I'll add that and measure CYA again in a few days. The Pool Math Calculator says this should raise CYA from 0 to 32. If I can get the test to register somewhere close to this then I'll have confidence to...

Can't get TF-100 CYA test to work

I've successfully done the CYA test on the AGP at my previous house many times. I have a new house with a salt water pool now and can't seem to get this test to work. When I first tried it 5 months ago I got a 0 CYA reading. I took a sample to the pool store and they told me the CYA was 75. I...

    Lost Pump Prime

Thanks to jethacat and Jimrahbe for suggesting the seal/o-ring. When I finished cleaning the cartridge filters it was getting dark and I didn't notice that when I removed the pump basket lid to add water for priming the o-ring fell off on the ground! I found and put the o-ring back on this...

    Lost Pump Prime

    1. Yes first time. 2. The pump is on the side of the house and the suction pipe comes out of the ground at 12". Allowing another 6 to 12" down to water level in the pool I'd say a total of 1.5 to 2'. 3. The pool is full and the water is half way up the skimmers. 4. Probably about 30 seconds. It...

    Lost Pump Prime

Is there a good post I can refer to that will help me figure out how to properly prime my pump to get it going again. Today I cleaned the cartridge filters on the pool at the house we moved into 2 months ago. The only instructions I have are from the pump manual left by the previous owner. I...

    New leak at filter multi-valve

Thanks for this post and thread. My Waterway multiport was leaking out the backwash port when I filled and opened this summer. So I took it apart expecting to see a problem with the spider gasket. The gasket was fine but the diverter valve was sticking in up position and just letting water blow...

Opening BBB Pool with no CYA

Readings before any chems added: FC=0 CC=0 PH=7.2 TA=140 CYA=0 (I think it may really be 0 because the liner leaks and I've had to fill several times over the off season) This is my first opening after converting from Baquacil to BBB last season. The cover kept most of the junk out but it's...

How long to run filter daily

I'm really liking the BBB method. It's low cost and it works! Now I'm looking at reducing energy costs by not filtering 24/7. Any suggestions on filter frequency and duration would be appreciated. Or maybe there's a good post on this subject someone could point me to.

New to BBB and wanted to confirm CYA/FC levels

You must have read my mind (or I read yours). I was doing some more research in the Pool School and saw that it is better to add bleach in the evenings. Just added 126 oz to get it back up to 6. I'll try to do it in the evenings from now on.

New to BBB and wanted to confirm CYA/FC levels

Hung a sock with 54 oz of CYA to increase from 20 to 50 and 168 oz of bleach to increase from 0 to 6 this morning. Sock is almost empty this evening and FC measures 1.5. So the FC didn't totally dissapate. I'm hoping that when the CYA totally dissolves it will help hold the FC level. Water is...

New to BBB and wanted to confirm CYA/FC levels

I'm using HTH brand Stabilizer & Conditioner with CYA at 96%. I'll up the CYA to 50 and target the FC to 6. I've been adding 6% bleach in the mornings and it's down to 0 the next morning. I only took the readings this evening because I suspected something was wrong and wanted to get some advice...

New to BBB and wanted to confirm CYA/FC levels

I completed the conversion from Baqua about two weeks ago and things have been going pretty well. However, for the past 2 days the water isn't the beautiful crystal clear that it has been and is noticeably a little cloudy. Current readings at 9pm are: FC - 0 (dosed it up to 4 this morning?) CC...

    Began the conversion to BBB

Passed the overnight FC test! Am adding 54 oz of CYA to get it 30 ppm by hanging a sock at the return. CC is currently 0.5. If CC stays low tomorrow, I plan to stop shocking and get to normal water balancing. I think I'm almost there! Water looks good and pH is at 7.2. I've put the ladder in...

Overnight FC drop of 5 is lowest in about a week. Maybe things are turning around. Probably just jinxed myself.

    Began the conversion to BBB

Put in 420 oz at 6:30p to take FC from 0 to 15. Measured at 8:30p and FC had dropped to 5.5 in about 2 hrs! Used the rest of the bleach I had on hand (210 oz) and this should have increased FC by 7.5 per the pool calculator. Need to get more bleach tomorrow. 50 gals total used so far.

Must be the fertilizer or whatever they dumped on the field causing heavy chlorine loss. I'll just keep adding bleach in the evenings to get FC up to 15 and then look for an overnight drop of less than 1 before proceeding to change out the sand right? I'll look for some regular Clorox.

    Began the conversion to BBB

Lately, I have been taking morning readings after sunrise (7:30 this morning) only because the FC drop is substantial and I didn't feel like I was going to be anywhere near 1 or less. Here are the current readings: FC - 2.5 CC - 1 TA - 150 pH - 7.5 Water looks pretty good to me. It has been...

    Began the conversion to BBB

The first couple of days of the conversion, I was adding bleach every few hours. Since then I have gone to adding bleach only in the evenings. Overnight FC loss is getting worse. Is this typical? I don't feel like I'm making any progress. If anyone cares to look at the FC readings and comment...

    Began the conversion to BBB

FC is 6 this morning. Gunk doesn't scoop well so I'll have my wife vacuum today. I've been adding bleach only in the evenings for the past couple of days. If the FC goes to 0 during the day, does this open the door for stuff to grow? Should I go back to maintaining 15 or at least some chlorine...

Ok. I just dosed to get up to 15 before going to bed and I noticed in the dark quite a large mass of gunk at the bottom of the pool in the center. This is a new development. I'll scoop it out in the morning to see what it is. Something is not right.

    Began the conversion to BBB

I thought I was getting close to passing the overnight FC drop test. Monday night I measured 16 and this morning it was 14. When I got home this evening around 8:30 the FC was 0. I added the specified amount to get it back up to 15 (420 oz) and then measured about an hour later and it was at 7...

Interesting. I'm kind of ****** at the pool store for setting me up with this pump/filter combo. Oh well. I think I'll do the CYA sock at the return then.

    Began the conversion to BBB

Thanks Jason! I'll go slow. As for backwashing, I'll try to resist but I have a problem with my filter in that when the pressure builds up to over 20 psi (normally seems to run about 16.5) it tends to blow the big o-ring between the multi-port valve and the filter body. This causes water to leak...
