Help finding contractor renovation Pinellas County, FL

Hello all, My wife and I are considering re-tiling our in ground pool. The tile is from the '70s and the grout is failing. (coming out in 1/4" chunks) T he marcite was re-done with diamond brite in 2006 and still looks great. Also, we want to have the decking looked at and a solar heater...

FAS-DPD is 14FC, OTO is 1 water not sparkly

Thanks for all of the input. Found the OTO problem. I was using the DPD reagent.... :/ they both have yellow caps. As far as the color, may have been rain borne debris. There is a tree overhanging the pool enclosure and fine stuff can get washed in during heavy rains. It must've oxidized as...

FAS-DPD is 14FC, OTO is 1 water not sparkly

I do have high metals and add sequesterant (HDEP) monthly. Could be almost time for more. The color descriptions were of the pool surface. I can see the barraccuda pretty well. Any idea what might foul the OTO test? When I was shocking, it would turn orange.

FAS-DPD is 14FC, OTO is 1 water not sparkly

Correct. The green/yellow is very faint. I wouldn't know if it hadn't been sparkly yesterday.

FAS-DPD is 14FC, OTO is 1 water not sparkly

I checked my chlorine tonight and the test results are: FC: 14 CC: 0 pH: 7.5 CYA: 50 CH: 260 TA: 90 Salt: 3100 The pool looks slightly yellow/green instead of it's white/blue. Have been getting heavy rains the past few days. The SWG is set at 45%. Any ideas? I might put a jug of clorox in to...

    Dogs in pool, specificallly Labs

We had some trouble with our dog being shy about the pool. When we put her in, she got a scared look in her eye and went for the nearest edge. Afterwards, for a year, she would go the other way if we were in the pool. This summer, we got her a life vest and floated her around in that for a few...

Turbidity measurement (was "what is NTU?")

Here some quick statistics of the NTU measurements taken. 50ppm standard: STDEV 18.92280971 Mean 156.5454545 Median 159 MAX 187 MIN 130 Error 28.5 25ppm mixture: STDEV 19.65275368 Mean 81.25454545 Median 72.1 MAX 111 MIN 54.3 Error 28.35 It seems the NTU reading gives tighter grouping than...

Turbidity measurement (was "what is NTU?")

Got my hands on some glassware and the Hach 2100Q this morning. Bear in mind that this was an industrial environment vs. a carefully controlled laboratory. I'm sure much error can be eliminated with better instrumentation and control. Short Answer It seems one can take the NTU reading of the...

Turbidity measurement (was "what is NTU?")

Another challenge might be the range of measurement. The 2100Q measures from 0-1000 NTU. If the CYA samples are at the high end of that, a dilution might be required just to get a reading. Another thought is that the CYA to NTU relationship may not be strictly proportional. This thought comes...

Turbidity measurement (was "what is NTU?")

Does anyone know the relationship between CYA and NTU for the TF-100 test kit? If not, I guess a quick and dirty two point calibration could be done using the 50CYA standard and dilution. NTU is a useful measurement of turbidity. Following is quoted from...

Re: A Better CYA Test Kit? Does anyone know the relationship between CYA and NTU for the TF-100 test kit? If not, I guess a quick and dirty two point calibration could be done using the 50CYA standard and dilution. I have use of a Hach-2100Q and would rather measure the turbidity directly...

New TF-100 kit and high (55) CC reading

Just wanted to thank everyone again and post current test results. pH: 7.5 FC: 7 CC: 0 TA: 70 CH: 350 CYA: 45 (just added some a few days ago and am letting it climb) The water looks spectacular. I'm still getting some minor organic stains on the bottom. About 5 brown splotches in random spots...

New TF-100 kit and high (55) CC reading

Is the TA test similar? After 5 drops, it turned red, then back to green. After 7 droips, it turned red and stayed red. 7:00am pH: 7.2 FC: 20 (it rained last night) CC: 24 TA: 70 CYA: 40

New TF-100 kit and high (55) CC reading

Another question about the CC reading. Maybe because it's so high (still 25 to 30), but it seems to have a transient component. i.e. if I add the R-0871 quickly while stirring, it will go clear. However if I wait for 30 seconds or so, it turns pink again. More drops will eventually make it stay...

New TF-100 kit and high (55) CC reading

Okay, Got new reagents today, haven't put anything in the pool since bleaching last weekend. FC: 4 PH: 6.8 CC: 27 TA: 60 CYA: 30 CH: Not Measured. I've been trying to get the TA down from the 150s so I could add a box of Borax to bring the pH in line. Also 2 lbs of CYA in the skimmer. My...

New TF-100 kit and high (55) CC reading

Thanks Jason, I have not used any non-chlorine shock, and about three years ago I stopped using powdered shock. Been pool store or grocery store bleach ever since. Note the SWG was started up about 3-4 weeks ago with the addition of about 200lbs of salt. The only chemicals used since January...

New TF-100 kit and high (55) CC reading

Hi James, I would certainly expect chloroform in my pool water due to the large amount of citric acid used as well as it naturally occurring. It's routinely found wherever chorine is used as a disinfectant. (pools, drinking water, etc...) However, you do raise an interesting point. Can it be...

New TF-100 kit and high (55) CC reading

Okay, Have a couple hours before mother in law comes for the day, so I'm researching CCs and their removal. As shown above, I've already shocked to the CYA guidance, but I did not reach the 10x CC level cited in the below article. (seems reputable and is cited in other guidance)...

New TF-100 kit and high (55) CC reading

Good morning, Did the OCLT and recorded the following: 11:00pm FC: 28, CC: > 0 (nothing added to pool, SWG off) 6:00am FC: 28, CC: > 0 (nothing added to pool, SWG set to turn on 50% for 8 hours at 9:00am) Looks like, for the moment at least, everything which can be is oxidized out. I must...

New TF-100 kit and high (55) CC reading

OK, measured FC: 28 at 11:00pm, adding nothing but a little DE to the filter before bed. Hopefully have enough R-0871 for the morning FC test, then I'm out until more arrives next week.

New TF-100 kit and high (55) CC reading

Thanks Jason, I was holding the CL above 24, being nervous that if it drops below that something will go wrong. Will do the overnight measure if possible. Just about out of R-0871. :( Going to be flying blind soon. I have 8 1.42gal jugs of 6% bleach left. Should I switch to 1 jug every 8...

New TF-100 kit and high (55) CC reading

Hi everyone, Thanks again for all of the advice. I'm a bit confused, or may impatient, at this point. I'm past the 24hour mark on shocking and CCs are still out of sight. The OTO test is still Yellow-Orange and I don't have enough reagents to measure out to 50 again. (more are on order) The...

New TF-100 kit and high (55) CC reading

Could the Ultra have contributed to the high CC? I didn't wait between adding the ultra and chlorine about a month ago. (not doing that now, just straight bleach) Also, I've been editing the above transient chlorine reading post. Seems like I'm loosing 5ppm/hr in sunlight. Is this normal solar...

New TF-100 kit and high (55) CC reading

The culprit could be some of these things.... This is citric acid, ascorbic was not available when I wanted to reduce the iron stains. Used about 10lbs. http://store.pinchapenny.com/product/Ch ... e-00965004 20lbs of this went into the pool http://store.pinchapenny.com/product/Ch ...

Pool water has turned hazy, a white, chalky type of haze. Added 1 cup of DE to sand filter to help capture fines. Added some clarifier to chase the fines with as well. Here's the transient tests I have from the past 12 hours or so... All bleach additions are just after the measurement was...

New TF-100 kit and high (55) CC reading

Okay, a few days and 8 gallons of 6% bleach later I get.... pH: 7 FC: 3 CC: >30 (dumped the flask at 60 drops, did not repeat) TA: 130 CYA: 40 (still learning when to stop, earlier reading likely false) As an aside, I did an OTO test (kit I've had for a year or so) and it read FC: 4 After a...

New TF-100 kit and high (55) CC reading

Hello, I've been lurking here for some time and finally took the advice to order my own test kit and take care of my own pool. The funny thing is that there is a CC reading of 55, which repeated twice. Most folks post a reading of 0.5 or so. I'm not sure what this means, if it's good or bad...
