Yep I had checked that out before. That’s where I got the idea to use the triclor puck. How soon should I start the monthly dose of the seqeustrant?

Yes there where a few of those. The color of our plaster is called “Natural”. It’s a light sand color that has specks of larger black pieces and smaller red, brown and gold pieces. There where also areas that green algae had been a while back. I thought I had cleaned them away but found I...

    Metal stain help

It ended up taking a lot longer than I anticipated but the results are great. Along with removing the stain and brightening the pool up, it allowed me to see some areas that had algae spots. I tried just using a ss brush in them but it didn’t really help. I ended up getting some triclor pucks...

Everything is all clear now and looking good. The stain removal went well and the areas on the pool bottom looks great now. Still monitoring the chemical levels and adjusting as necessary. In the past I would let the PH climb as high as 7.8. So now I am monitoring that more closely. I have a...

I was thinking the TA is a little to low according to the calculator? I had to order some CYA. When that comes in I will work on getting the Chlorine level up to 4-5 ppm with a CYA level around 60 if I am calculating that correctly.

The pool is fairly clear now. It’s not cloudy but not perfectly clear yet. It is starting to get a little sparkle to it. I cleaned the filter after 7 days running 24/7. It was definitely full of white stuff. I truly think not cleaning it is what helped to get the super fine cloudiness out of the...

Got about 2” of rain in the pool yesterday. My chlorine guess worked well and everything is still holding above 3ppm for now. It did raise the PH a bit so I had to add some acid to get it back down to 7.2. Will see how everything is balanced out tonight after work. The cloudiness is still there...

Ok. Bumped up the SWCG and added a bit more liquid chlorine that brought it almost to 5ppm. Expecting rain today so I am figuring on it getting diluted some. Pool was a little more clear this morning. I could see the main drains without having to look for them.

Understood. FC is holding at the 2ppm range with the SWCG running at 20% and the PH is holding at 7.2. I could just barely see the outline of the main drains this morning, so it is improving. I will stay the course and leave everything alone until it’s clear again. So far no stains have...

That’s the range I typically operate it at and what it had reverted back to over the weekend. The cloudiness didn’t get much better today. Is there any of the clarifiers that can be used without any other issues?

I got home late last night to find the pump running on a very slow speed. In my haste to get the SWCG back online I didn’t get everything set correctly. Good news the pool didn’t turn green and the chlorine level was around 1.5ppm after 2 bright sunny days. Bad news was the cloudiness was about...

Thanks. I decided not to add the polyquat. I also add a low amount of CYA just bringing it up slow. Otherwise just letting it run for now.

So my thought is now that with the previous Metal Magic treatment and the current use of it after the AA that I might have a higher level of phosphate that is contributing to the longer amount of cloudiness. Thinking about a cartridge filter used in an air situation it actually becomes more...

I have 2 bubblers on the sun shelf that when I open the valve full it makes a good bit of aeration. And I have been doing that. My PH test is showing 7.2. I don’t think I am going to add anything to raise the PH anymore especially if I turn on the SWCG. I have considered adding more polyquat at...

    Metal stain help

I do have a variable speed pump. I have been running it full speed 24/7 thinking this would offer the most filtration. Overnight I lost about .5 ppm on the chlorine. Bright and sunny today I lost 2ppm. I have to retest the CYA but it was down to 30 when I started. It’s still cloudy white and...

    Metal stain help

That’s one of the posts I read thru prior to starting. I was wondering if adding the borax or soda ash makes the cloudiness worse? My only problem at this time is having to go out of town Saturday and Sunday for Easter. I am thinking about putting the SWCG back online to hopefully keep chlorine...

The pool looked good then went cloudy after adding the Metal Magic. I knew this would happen and didn’t worry to much about it. I have been slowly adding 12.5% chlorine at 32oz at a time over the last 2 days to get the levels to 2-3ppm. So far I have used 2 gallons total. I don’t know if that...

    Metal stain help

I normally keep the CYA at the 60-80 level. It was low from rains and since it was winter I didn’t worry to much about it. I was thinking of getting the chlorine and other levels stabilized first before working on the CYA. My salt level is also low. I just don’t want to start dumping everything...

Sorry I didn’t see the tag line. I have no idea how that information got there but I just deleted it. That’s what I am trying to do on the balance. Hoping to get the chlorine stabilized so that I can start to use the SWCG again to maintain it at a 2ppm level. Not planning on any water...

Started balancing things after work. Started by adding some Borax using the pool math calculator. Then started to add some chlorine a little at a time. Got some minor clouding but still looking ok. Decided to not get in a big hurry and just start dumping stuff in. Then it got too dark. So I will...

The extra AA arrived by lunchtime today so I was able to stop by the house and add it to the pool. Interestingly, on the areas I put it on the faint stain seemed to come back darker but went away in about 20 minutes. Overall I think it’s looking good. Tonight I went ahead and added the Metal...

The contact at Haviland (Metal Magic) sent me some replacement Metal Magic. He also included a product I haven’t seen before called Stain Drop. It appears to be a phosphate free sequestrant. Anybody used this or know anything about it?

    Metal stain help

I decided to wait it out and ordered another pound of AA that is supposed to be here today. I turned the bubblers on yesterday and still have the pump running full speed. Figured it might help to raise the PH slowly since I am still under seven but don’t want to add anything yet to chance it. I...

    Metal stain help

I left it run overnight and a little more of the area got lighter. It’s now areas you have to look for if you know it’s there. I may try to find some more AA at Whole Foods, it’s pricier there but the other option is to order from Amazon for tomorrow delivery. If it won’t hurt anything waiting...

    Metal stain help

I am working on my AA treatment today and so far it’s going well. I used 2 lbs of AA in my 15k pool. There is an area in the center of the pool that still has visible staining if it’s overcast. I do not have any more AA to add. How long can you leave the pool in this state before adding the...

You are correct on the 7.5 PH on the bottle. The person at Haviland mentioned a PH of 7.8 to start with. I am waiting on hearing back from them on what they suggest at this point. I am tentatively planning on doing the AA treatment next since I have the pool water chemistry set for this.

One thing I find interesting is that the Metal Magic specifically calls for the PH to be at 7.8 or higher compared to the lower levels for AA.
