    SLAM and confusion over CYA

Thanks! So I have only done this once before and I remember it was confusing last time as well. So can I tell you how I got here? When they came to open the pool there was debris in the bottom (leaves etc., we live in New England) but the water was very clear. We had metal stains and years ago...

    SLAM and confusion over CYA

I literally can't tell what my CYA is because it looks different in every light. I have complained about it in here before but this time my question is related to slamming: So when testing CYA, the little dot starts to disappear around 60 and in most settings I can still kind of make out the...

Eating up a lot of chlorine

Thanks, that was what I thought. Gonna kick it up a bit to see if it helps Chris

Eating up a lot of chlorine

I'm using the real test - the Taylor FAS-DPD. I'm guessing 37 because it looks a little under 40. I've written on here about how I have a notoriously hard time reading the CYA test. Depends on the time of day, the angle of the sun, probably also how tired my own eyes are lol

Eating up a lot of chlorine

Hi guys - Thanks in advance as this forum has been an incredibly valuable resource to me in the past. My pool has been taking ~90+ fl oz LC (12.5%) some days recently as the summer heat gets on it. I've had to SLAM in the past and I'm concerned about the CYA getting so high that it's...

    Wrong tabs?

I know all the arguments for using LC over tabs and I don't need any convincing about that. Thanks to this site I'm a full convert about LC. My local pool guy is in his 80s and hasn't taken any precautions about the virus and I don't want to be the reason he gets sick. They don't even take...

    Wrong tabs?

Thank you for answering me! The new smaller ones are Trichloro-S-trazinetrione (picture attached). The ones I had been using (~7/day) were the same ingredient, but listed as 63% Trichlor instead of 98.6% (the new ones). The guy at intheswim.com had not been trained but he talked to his...

    Wrong tabs?

Hey guys - I posted a couple weeks ago here about the difficulty in getting LC where I live and unfortunately using chlorine tabs instead until things get back to normal. I don't want to do it but it's been fine so far until I just ran out of the first barrel of tabs and opened up the second...

    Liquid Chlorine delivery?

Yeah of course I don't want to, but I have a feeling I'm going to end up doing the same thing. Funny, thanks to TFP, this year opening the pool was the least hassle it's ever been - CC of 0, a little dash of muriatic acid, then just some leaves to get out and it was ready to go in a day. All...

    Liquid Chlorine delivery?

Both Home Depot and Lowes show the item as out of stock. Wonder if that could be because people are buying liquid chlorine to use as a disinfectant? I really don't want to go to Walmart if I don't have to. If it was between that and driving 35 miles for curbside pickup I'd probably drive 35...

    Liquid Chlorine delivery?

Sorry if this is the wrong place for this question. I saw a similar post on here about Calcium Chloride. I want to support my local pool guys, but there's a quarantine in MA and even once they're allowed to open, they don't take credit cards and so going into the (very small) store and...

SLAMming a green swamp, but with complications

Thanks again to everyone for your help with this. Discovered out of the blue today that the reason the FC was dropping so much was the CYA went from 50 to 0. I thought it was very uncommon for this to happen, no? When the pool was still green I quadruple-checked the CYA every time I checked the...

SLAMming a green swamp, but with complications

OK I'll proceed this way. So it's impossible that the messed up pH and TAC cause the cloudiness? Thanks Chris

SLAMming a green swamp, but with complications

Hey guys. I wanted to post a before/after here to see how well this cleared up by slamming. I rigged a regular vacuum hose to the pump intake and submerged it in the pool by tying it to a brick. Did the job in about 4 days. I wasn't there over the weekend and the owner added chlorine but not...

SLAMming a green swamp, but with complications

That invol That would involve removing the metal doohickey that holds whatever's there now in place, and cutting up some PVC, putting it together with epoxy, and then somehow fashioning an adapter that the vacuum hose could go onto? Or just submerge the other end of the PVC so it's sucking...

SLAMming a green swamp, but with complications

I'm sure he's totally fine with anything I can figure out that will work. I'm just wary of spending his money on LC and then having it not work because of the pump. I'm not sure what you mean though. Like connect the vacuum hose directly to the pump? (I do own a submersible pump that comes in...

SLAMming a green swamp, but with complications

There is no vacuum intake other than the skimmer. I don't think there's a whole lot of large particulate stuff in the pool, at least not that I could feel while pushing around the brush. And nothing big came up while brushing. It's just like really thick pea soup. So my dilemma is whether to...

SLAMming a green swamp, but with complications

I put the vacuum into the skimmer. If there's a vac port I'm not aware of it. I'll ask him. That foam is the algaecide. It didn't look like that until I threw that stuff in.

SLAMming a green swamp, but with complications

Do you mean drain the pool and have it refilled with clean water? Are you saying that based on the photos? Or the air leak in the pump? The owner has had someone look into the air leak and I think they're fairly certain the leak isn't coming from the pump trap lid. I will bring that up with him...

SLAMming a green swamp, but with complications

I've SLAMMED my own pool in years past and this week I'm trying to help some friends with their pool, since I've had some experience and also I've got a little free time. Please see attached photos. I've read this Turning Your Green Swamp Back into a Sparkling Oasis and I know what I have to do...

    Taylor CYA Agent R-0013

Thanks! I think I remember that once the CYA is too high there's nothing that can be done about it, right? I'm asking because I think maybe I should be careful about throwing 10 pounds of the stuff in at once, no?

    Taylor CYA Agent R-0013

My pool was reopened two weeks ago while I was away (I got home Friday). In the meantime my wife was just putting a bunch of bleach in the pool and now I gotta try to remember how to do all this stuff! Just took my first measurements. I was down to my last few drops of R-0013 (CYA agent) and I...

    Metal stains

We have well water here and there are elevated levels of all kinds of metals. Thanks, I'll look into whether the pink stuff is better, although I already have the Blue Stuff and it says on the link you provided "everything the Pink Stuff does and more." Still, better to know for next time. What...
