    Transfer pump

Appears its not air but the pump running faster than the water can get to it now that the level is quite low. Fitted a valve on the out hose to restrict flow and put the pump on low revs: seems to have done the trick. Sweet spot between water flowing to sump and pumping speed.

    Transfer pump

I cut the pipe to the shortest length possible, primed with a hose and got the thing going. Only problem now is when the water level drops, the hose gets air into it and pumps intermittently. Will fit a valve which will stop air getting in; the only trouble with that is it keeps getting blocked...

    Transfer pump

It says 7 metres suction height max. I have an 11 metre hose on there but the actual height difference is only 1.5 metres. What would be the max length of pipe (1.5") with a height of 1.5m?

    Transfer pump

Trying to pump out groundwater after heavy rain. Have moved pump out of excavation above pool and attached quite a long suction side hose but now having probs. Is there a limit as to the length of suction side hose and height of pump?. when hose was short and pump down in excavation, pump was...

    Pool Fill Water Quality

Just taken a sample of groundwater. Have allowed the solids to settle for a few hours and then filtered with a paper coffee filter but it is still full of dissolved silt. I need enough clear water for the test tube; can anyone advise as to how I can get this sample clear? Distillation seems an...

    Pool Fill Water Quality

The problem with a new location is that I would probably need to apply for a license which is fraught with probs and limitations on depth/location etc. Do you think getting the ground cleaned up (as its a contamination which should never have happened in the first place) will solve the iron prob...

    Pool Fill Water Quality

Some water option iron test results: Groundwater soak: around 0.8 mg/l Water tanks containing rainwater:0.0 mg/l I'm still waiting for the salt tester to arrive..... If the main fill water comes from the water tanks at the start of winter plus some trucked in, is it ok to top up with the...

Onga (Pentair) Silentflo or Jandy ePump?

Seal between motor and body? this might be different with a different motor? I dont think the motor on the SF is noisy according to the spec. Diffuser? dont know what they are, is that a motor part which might be different. I havent bought the pump yet and Onga was until recently an Australian...

Onga (Pentair) Silentflo or Jandy ePump?

None of the dynapro's draw anything near as low as 3amps and as you say it must have a different motor, therefore A) can a comparison really be made between the SF750 and the Dynapro and if so why? B)If a comparison can be legitimately made, why you no like the dyanpro?

Onga (Pentair) Silentflo or Jandy ePump?

Yer, I know. Whenever I feel like weeping at how much more we pay for things here than in the US, I always console myself in the knowledge that it could be worse; I could be paying NZ prices :?

Onga (Pentair) Silentflo or Jandy ePump?

yes, I'm sure. Whilst they dont actually publish the figures (which is probably why people buy it), they gave them to me on the phone. Its also louder at 2800rpm than the single speed.

Onga (Pentair) Silentflo or Jandy ePump?

compared to all the of the other single speed pumps I have looked at down here, the SF750 is quieter and more efficient than any of the others by far. 3amps draw for a 1hp pump is very low....unless I am missing something?? Edit the single speed is from Pentair, the 3 speed from Hurlcon; I...

    Equipotential Bonding

Thanks for the support Bama. I have done it with a continuous cable (in Aus the cable can't be bare). There are 4 clamps on the floor, 4 on the walls and 4 on the top flange and there will be 4 on the deck.

Thoughts on a solar powered pump?

Rather than directly using a solar panel to power a pump you might consider putting in a grid connect whole of house photovoltaic system to generate most or all of your power. I think that in some states in the US there are some fairly generous subsidies on the installation of a PV system. You...

Size and reinforcement of concrete steps?

The reason that I asked you about using sand was that I wasn't sure whether sand would be an inferior fill or not; you just said it is usual to use gravel not that sand wouldnt do, so I wasnt sure, which is why I asked. Its not about the cost of the gravel or because of a wish to do it the "easy...

Size and reinforcement of concrete steps?

Thanks, it's just that the sand is already down there next to the pool having landed there when it rained last week  , the gravel will have to be manhandled in buckets down to the pool right in the middle of mortaring day.

Size and reinforcement of concrete steps?

Does anyone know if it would be ok to use fine sand as fill for the steps? With gravel there would be pretty much instant compaction but if I watered the sand well, would it be ok or would voids be inevitable as we will need to put the sand in only the day before mortaring the steps. It would be...

Size and reinforcement of concrete steps?

thanks so much for doing that....I wasnt looking forward to it. Ouch that is a lot of concrete, I think I will have to do it with gravel.

Pool Planning Mockup - Criticisms Welcome

Re: Pool Planning Mockup - Criticism Welcome Hi mate and welcome to the forum. my own two cents worth and certainly not gospel would be that if you can afford the $ and the space, I would go a bit bigger especially if you want the pool for length swimming. I think at 17ft you might reach the...

    Large Scale Solar Installation

ok, so just to confirm. A second pipe circuit and low flow pump (say around 25lpm) isnt going to be required for these small diameter tubed rubber panels or other type of collector? The rest of the details can be worked out when the pool is finished but for now I have to be certain that I dont...

    Large Scale Solar Installation

Yes it does but not for this location; they dont collect all of that data for every location and they dont collect hours of sunshine for here, unfortunately. I was figuring around 3X the surface area which would be about 90sqm,
