Thanks. The StainFree is 100% citric acid. The instructions say to very gradually increase the FC afterwards. I'm thinking I didn't wait long enough to add the bleach. Also, never had a problem with iron before (the pool is 9 years old). I'll go ahead and add the CYA as you recommended.

Undissolved salt? I had a couple of "white crystals" that were picked up a couple of days after adding..guess I didn't brush thoroughly.

My only reason for turning off my IC-40 is to prolong its cell life. My first cell only lasted 3 years. Since I'm retired and home nearly every day, I don't mind dumping some Clorox. Of course, I'll turn it back on when I go out of town. ... thanks for all the nice remarks and feedback...
