Is anyone familiar with sodium tetraborate pentahydrate as an algae preventative?

kinda late to post maybe, but for the record, above poster is correct about boric containing more effectiveness than borax- boric acid has moe boron as an element than sodium tetraborate pentahydrate (the pentahydrate are water molecules attached, of course). More boron, less sodium/water.

Could a light be the source of rust stains?

0.3ppm of copper (Cu) is not that bad. heck- many municipal water plants list the Cu level at from 0.05-0.1. So, 0.3- not so much higher, especially cuz its a pool. Now, if you were drinking that every day, probably somethning to inquire about with your local plant, but I wouldnt worry about it...

    Pump trouble- maybe impeller(?)

People, Pump runs, but no circulation, so I removed the basket, cleaned it, and with clear plastic basket cover off, I started motor- motor starts, but doesnt draw in water from basket/pvc tubing. Where would you start dismantling? What is suspect? Impeller, right? Thanks

They're trying to sell me phosphate elixir again. Now Im confused.

I get it, people. Thanks for all the explanations. Good to know I dont have to "shock" the pool- just maintain it. I never knew that tip. Why are these pool stores hyping up so much this "shock " mentality. Oh well. OK, TFP, know where I could buy this $20 (or even $30) kit? Online would be...

They're trying to sell me phosphate elixir again. Now Im confused.

Thanks, people- advice so fast! Now, "slam", "shock", bang or crash- What is this?? Ive maybe "slammed" my pool with 2 jugs at least 2X in past 6 weeks (from memory) then "shock" with a jug once every 5 days/week. Are yous saying Im not putting enough? If I am putting enough, s why do I still...

They're trying to sell me phosphate elixir again. Now Im confused.

People, A while ago, I was advised here , gratefully, that I should stay away from snake oil products like phosphate remover in order to "clarify" my pool. Thing is, recently, Ive been dumping soooo much chlorine to little avail. Pool gets somewhat clear/"blu" vs green, then gets green so soon...

pool pump smells "burnt". Saw smoke.

OK, just came back from there- turned onthe pump and put mu nose right on impeller top, smell there, also smell is in back of pump, appears. Smell everywhere. Does smell like a kind of plastic, now that I reflect on it more, having JUST stuck my nose on the equip, ment.

pool pump smells "burnt". Saw smoke.

Now, what gets me, why didnt the breaker- which I understand is sooo sensitive, didnt trip again>?
  16. N

pool pump smells "burnt". Saw smoke.

yes, definitely- smelled like elec burning, not so much like rubber burn. Man, the smoke initially came from where the elec wires go into the back of motor, I think.

pool pump smells "burnt". Saw smoke.

People, Once in a while, with a heavy downpour/storm, pool pump breaker trips in box. I simply trip it back, start pump, no problem. Did it for many years. Today, when starting pump, saw smoke, smelled burnt, while pump struggled to start- eventually ran after say, 2-3 seconds. backwashed...

Now, algae sticks to new pool surface tighter.

Well, like anyone here realy knows who those people are- cmon, this is internet. No one knows who anyone is. Like we can put out a broadcast to them to come on back to defend the statements.......... Im just saying- it was posted, and if it wasnt true, that was the time to post a message to...

Now, algae sticks to new pool surface tighter.

Yup, I found it- here: thinking-of-installing-a-salt-chlorine-generator-t36049.html at least 2 members advised I will always need to brush.

Now, algae sticks to new pool surface tighter.

LOL!! OK, now I gotta find that thread- no brush/gotta brush- no consensus. Its a thread I started way back, maybe 1-2 years ago, when I asked here if, with a salt system as oposed to chloride dumping will free one of brushing, and at least one member said I will always have to brush no matter...

Now, algae sticks to new pool surface tighter.

Thanks, but the members here in the past said one can never get away with brushing- impossible, so why the surprise as to me brushing the walls of my pool? Vac takes care of the bottom, pretty well, but sides/wals- you gotta brush. OK, so I got relaxed in my Cl levels- been too busy with life...

Now, algae sticks to new pool surface tighter.

Finally resurfaced my pool- was marcite, got the new age stuff diamond brite. Now learning, the algae is so dang hard to brush off the surface. Man, what a chore. With marcite, which was soooo smooth, it would sweep right off with little force. Is this typical, People? Thanks

Confused between Diamond Brite and Pearl Brite finishes

Thanks, Jas. Right- thats it- a kind of "mottling", on darker shades/colors. Im gonna stay away from dark, though. Anybody have a feel for difference in pricing though? Should the better diamond cost considerably more? 20% more? 50% more? About the same?

Confused between Diamond Brite and Pearl Brite finishes

Thnaks, jason. Good to know. So, If one got a quote for diamond at $2700 and another guy quoting pearl for $2800, its a no brainer, right (as in go for the diamond for even lower cost)? Also, any fading to be expected in the deeper blue colors with either? Thaks for the advice!

Confused between Diamond Brite and Pearl Brite finishes

People, Am thinking of resurfacing my pool, and old marcite. Whats the difference is diamond and pearl brite? Cost? Longevity? Appearance? having trouble finding on line representative colr samples (pools) of the pearlbrite, while diamond brite, no problem finding sample pools..... Thanks
