    Non Chlorine shock?

I did my first drain and refill. Added the sodium bromide then shocked with "potassiumperoxymonosulfate". 5 days later I am still getting a high FC reading with both the dpd drop test and the oto test. should I wait for the readings to go down before starting to put the bromine tabs in the floater?

    Testing Bromine

Hi all, I read the sticky on bromine but have some confusion. The sticky says you can use regular bleach as an activator when you have sodium bromide in the water, but every thing I read and the pool stores say you can not mix bromine and chlorine. I am using the bromine tablets and testing...

    Bromide and shock

Hi, I have a new acrylic or fiberglass spa with a ozone generator. Starting out I plan to use bromide, I have read and understand the sticky on bromide, however I am confused on how to test for the reserve bromide vs bromine levels, and what to use to activate the bromide or shock. my owners...

    CH Test ?

Hi all, New spa and I used the TFT 100 CH test for the first time, I am a pool owner and am familiar with the TFT 100. I added 20 drops of R-10 and 5 drops of the R11L, the sample didn't turn red just a faint pink tint. I added one drop at a time of R12 and the sample turned to a faint blue...

    Leaking Sand Tank

Does anyone have any experience with repairing a plastic sand filter tank? My tank has a seam that runs from top to bottom and has about a 1/16 inch leak just below flange for the valve. I assume its ABS plastic. Is there a plastic cement that will hold under pressure?

Opinions on the quality of filter sand

Does anyone have an opinion on the quality of filter sand? My local chain discount pool store sells a 50 pound bag of filter sand for $6.00, for me it seems easier to just dump the sand and replace it every couple of years. that way I can check the laterals and all the connections and know that...

    Algea grows in hidden places

I have a hollow plastic ladder. When I lift it from the pool I can see that there is a large amount of algea growing in the interior spaces. Is this a source for continuous problems or does normal chlorination keep it in check?

    Question on Muriatic Acid

I have never used it. I need to lower my PH from 7.8. The pool calc calls for 13 oz of dry acid or 28 oz of 10 Baume Muriatic acid. I found MA online at lowes (unknown what concentration) the label say its good as a PH reducer in pools, I reviewer said that its not good for pools becasuse it...

    Testing question

I am using the TFT 100 kit and let me say it has been great. I track what goes in the pool and the test matches what is predicted by the pool calculator. A great tip was to put a white piece of paper behind the vials. I could never read the PH correctly until now. 1 question on the FC test. I...

    Trimming Excess Liner

The pool installer drapped the top of the liner over the wall and down the outside of the wall. The liner is held to the top of the wall by rubber channel that runs all the way around. About 14 inches of liner is visible on the outside of the pool. Can I safely trim off the excess liner? Im...

    Draining and refilling

Closed the pool last fall with a CYA of 150 and TA of 180 (pool store test). Last week I began to drain and refill. I shocked with bleach before draining to kill anything still clinging to the walls. Drained to about 3 inches then began refilling. About ½ full I added 96 oz of bleach...

Help with sand filter operation and algae

I have a similar problem with my sand filter. I have been battling algea and cloudy water for a month. I tried every chemical the store can sell then I noticed that my filters pressure had not gone up even though it had been running 24 hours a day for a week without back washing. I changed the...
