    Chlorine high!!!

I know that my chlorine has been high enough for a couple days according to the cya/chlorine chart. But it is still cloudy. Could it be because my chlorine is too high?

    Chlorine high!!!

I thought as long as there is CC that it meant that there was still stuff being “killed”. Should I just let the chlorine levels come back down? Thanks for your response!

    Chlorine high!!!

We opened our pool last Saturday. It was a green algae mess. In the last six days I have added so much chlorine because my test kept saying that I still had combined chlorine. My chlorine level is greater than 50 but yet it still says I have combined chlorine. What am I doing wrong? I took a...

    sand in pool

Hi, I am in the process of shocking my pool and the water remains cloudy. I have not done an overnight test yet but plan on doing it tonight. My biggest concern is that I see sand at the bottom of the pool more concentrated where the returns are. Is there a reason as to why this would be...

    Need Help with Opening Pool

pool has looked great for a couple of weeks now. (hope I am not jinxing myself) I waited until I passed the over night test and added floc. I saw results fast and the pressure on my filter rose so I am now confident that that was the problem. Thanks again for all the suggestions and...

    Need Help with Opening Pool

When i vaccumed yesterday to waste i did see lots of worms and dead bugs that i could not see at the bottom with the naked eye. I did lose chlorine over night so i know that i am not done with the shock process. I wish I could get in the pool and take out the light under the diving board because...

    Need Help with Opening Pool

the last time I checked cya the other day it was 80-90. last year it was around 80 also. We did drain the pool while vacuuming to waste over the weekend and we filled it with water from our hose (well water, and turned softner off while doing so.) so I don't know the ph of that water. I truly...

    Need Help with Opening Pool

yes but i don't know if that is true. I f high FC levels cause false high ph then why is mine reading low? Isn't it possible that my ph could be much lower than what it is reading?

    Need Help with Opening Pool

FC last night which my husband did was 43.5 this morning FC=44.5 (i am guessing the inconsistency is due to me doing the test today) CC=1 and PH=7.0! it was higher last night. I am scared about the ph reading so low and thinking that it should be false high which means it is probably a lot...

    Need Help with Opening Pool

I did overnight test and it seems that I am not done with shocking. I did the morning test a little late But I know that there could not be that much lost in the short time that it was light out. I have had shock levels that have been well over 30 at all times. Sometimes even 50's. so I am...

    Need Help with Opening Pool

no i have never done that, if we add it and it doesn't need it, will it hurt the filter? How long should I give my filter to clear the cloudiness. I cannot believe how much chlorine I have put in the pool and it is not clear yet. Earlier today I tested the water. FC= 35 CC=0 ph= 7.0 I added "ph...

    Need Help with Opening Pool

Ok, so I just dont think that the filter is clearing the cloudiness in the water. we did wash the filter out, the pressure does not change. I would think all the shocking would increase the pressure if the filter is trapping the dead algae. I guess I will keep shocking.

Why do I hear conflicting ideas about changing sand in the filters? Do we do it or not? Why do some say yes and some say no?

    Need Help with Opening Pool

So today my pool looks much better but we still haven't washed out the filter yet. It looks milky white. I just tested my water FC=50 CC=0.5 PH=7.2 I am concerned because I know that high levels of FC are said to give false high readings of PH. Mine is LOW! So I am aerating the pool also. Does...

    Need Help with Opening Pool

What is the most chlorine that any of you have needed to shock your pool? Also, is it possible that when adding a lot of chlorine to the pool that it can make it look salty? How long should I give my filter to filter water before I say "screw it" and replace water? We had flooding here 4 days...

    Need Help with Opening Pool

Two years ago we realized we had high cya when we found this website. we partial drained and refilled 2 times that year. When we opened the pool last year, we still had a high level but it was manageble. We didn't use anything but liquid chlorine last year. No pucks no sticks, nothing that would...

    Need Help with Opening Pool

Ok I am completely confused as to how our cya is so high. Last year we used no sticks or pucks or powder chlorine. We only used liquid chlorine. So why is it that our cya is so high after ddraining it and having refill over the winter? Any reasons? I am starting to wonder if there is anything...

    Need Help with Opening Pool

If 39 is too high to get the FC, why does the cya chart say to get it that high if my cya is 90-100? I used the same reagent for both times that I tested cya. Hoping to take a sample of water to see store cya and maybe that will help clarify things. Will have to wait til tomorrow to retest water...

    Need Help with Opening Pool

So where do you think my cya is coming from if it is that high? I cannot believe there would be that much of a difference between a cold sample of water would read less than 30 and then a room temp sample would read 90-100. When I looked at cya chart and the amount needed to shock the pool and...

    Need Help with Opening Pool

I am confused as to why my cya or how my cya can be so high when we just opened it and we did not use sticks or pucks all summer last year. How can this be? When we close the pool for winter, the cya should be less when we open it due to the replacement of water via snow/rain. 2 years ago we had...

    Need Help with Opening Pool

I did the test the same way both times. We are vaccuming the pool tonight and going to dump chlorine in. We are supposed to get about and inch of rain tonight. I will retest cya once water is room temp. I will retest all numbers and post later. thanks.

    Need Help with Opening Pool

What could cause a false low cya? yesterday it was under 30. today i did the test and it is anywhere from 80 to 100! does temp of water or old testing solutions have anything to do with it. we thought we had really low cya because I could see the black dot when the chamber was full. So we added...

its that time again: need help making sure that my htought processs of opening my pool is correct. FC 0 PH 7 TA 30 CYA less than 30 We have not opened the pool yet. Am I thinking right that we need to get PH up before we can shock? If we add ph increase, or aerate, can we do that along with...

    Need Help with Opening Pool

any ideas as to what would be wrong with it? Is there a time frame as far as changing the sand? I know some people have changed theirs, but I have also read that there should never be a need. As far as the sock, what exactly are you talking about? Is there a pool sock or can I use a nylon or...

    Need Help with Opening Pool

We now have a new problem. ph was 7.0 yesterday. I added a gallon of chlorine and turned on slide to aerate. Last night, my husband noticed that the pump was making a loud noise. He thinks that we need a new pump. How can we know if we need a new pump vs needing a part? Could this have been why...
