Muriatic acid SEEMS to have little effect

Thanks so much for the response. My Waterlink Spinlab has done me well so far, all of it's recommendations have generally gotten the pH to 7.2 very precisely, except for a short time it went out of calibration, so I trust it. I've also got a Taylor test kit that I periodically compare for...

Muriatic acid SEEMS to have little effect

Customer has a 15000 gal pool that's been down for a while. It's not green, but is cloudy. They're trying to clear it up, but before they can SLAM, we're trying to get the pH down. The muriatic acid seems to have little effect, and I'm suspecting an air leak. Tests are as follows: Date ph TA...

Black sediment in the bottom of commercial chlorine tank

When I went out to check it with a magnet, I had to use a flashlight and I got a better look at it. It actually does look like fine sand mad of black, gray, brown, white and tan particles. I scooped some out and squeezed it between my (gloved) fingers and it acted like a paste

Black sediment in the bottom of commercial chlorine tank

It doesn't appear to be iron. But now you have me thinking. I'm going to go back to the tower it was dispensed from and look at the setup. I want to say it was all HDPE and sch 80 PVC but I'm not sure

Black sediment in the bottom of commercial chlorine tank

I just bought a chlorine tank that I filled with commercial bleach. The tank was clean and brand new when I filled it, however now that I've dispensed all the chlorine, I've noticed this brown and black sediment at the bottom of the tank. Is this a normal biproduct of bleach instability? Or...

Why so much hate on pool store's water test?

Thanks for the clarification! I'll take your word for it. I've had conflicting information on that. As for the TF-100, we actually have an employee with a pool that has a test kit, and we compare results periodically. Our machine seems reasonably precise, and according to LaMotte, it self...

    Long time lurker, new(ish) member

Hi everyone, I'm James, and I am a hardware store manager. I've been visiting this site regularly for 5 years, since I took my position. I used to maintain several pools for an apartment company, but I was mostly depending on limited knowledge. Once I started in the hardware business, where I do...

Why so much hate on pool store's water test?

I would like to contribute to this thread from the perspective of a hardware store manager :D... We use a Waterlink Spinlab from LaMotte. I've been pretty happy with it, but there have been times when I would test a sample twice in a row and get drastically different results. But I know when...

New Member managing Ace Hardware in Ocean Springs, MS

Hi everyone, I'm a long time reader, first time poster. I currently help manage the Ace Hardware in Ocean Springs, MS. I've also maintained pools for a few real estate companies and apartment complexes. I started off with the same newbie attitude that "all you gotta do is keep adding chlorine"...
