    New leak at filter multi-valve

Could you guys help me diagnose? I just replumbed my system to include a solar heater, and took the opportunity to look inside my zeosand filter, rinse, etc. Now it's leaking from under the top where the valve handle is. Does this sound familiar to anybody? What should I look for?

    Please? Help replacing skimmer gaskets?

I'm doing an upgrade to my little pool--putting in an appropriate-size pump, adding a solar heater, swapping some hard pipe for spa-flex so as to minimize a couple of awkward runs. Here are my questions: 1. While the water level is below the skimmer and return, I intend to replace the...

    Solar cover FAIL

Some of you may remember that I was trying to gain a little big more heat at the beginning and end of our season. I bought one of those clear, heavy-duty, 12 mil solar covers with the diamond shaped bubbles. I noticed a difference at first--got a small heat gain right away and much better...

    Solar cover to Hawaii?

I'm having a devil of a time getting someone to ship a solar cover to Hawaii. Most of them won't tell you until the checkout phase, when you go to select your state--they don't even have an entry for Hawaii. I have written to Doheny's to ask for a real-price shipping quote. They don't even...

    Right-size pump & filter

As many of you know, I have a pump and filter that are large for the size of my pool. (I, in my ignorance, and wanting a clean pool, asked for it, thinking bigger was better) They seem to work fine, but I'm thinking of reconfiguring one of my pipe runs and started to wonder -- in a perfect...

Best way to introduce Muriatic Acid?

OK, I spent some time in Pool School and with the calculator, so I could safely lower my TA, which was 110 in my salt pool. The calculator says I should introduce 6.7 oz of MA. Then I saw some comments regarding the "slug" method and how it is a bad idea. How do you guys do it? Measure the...

    Re-purposing empty reagent bottles

Duraleigh, Chemgeek, can I re-use the plastic bottles from the 8 oz. CYA reagent? What should I use to rinse them out? Mostly I'm thinking of using them in the garage or in the garden, for things like liquid fertilizer, where the dropper-top is handy for measuring small amounts. Also possibly...

    Vacation procedures

We're headed to the mainland soon for a couple of weeks. The pool will be untended during that time, except for the possibility of a neighbor adding a little bleach once in a while. 1. Solar cover on or off? I'd like to keep debris out if I can, the trades are brisk this time of year and the...

Treating my greenish pool: encouragement please!

We had the solar blanket on for a couple of weeks because of cooler temps and high trade winds. Uncovered it to find jade-colored water. (first time ever) So I followed instructions, tested, added Clorox, kept testing, adding, filtering, brushing, backwashing. Backwash water seems to be the...

Can I let SWG run under solar cover?

I have a ChlorEase over-the-side generator. We keep the solar cover on when we're not swimming and only run the pump during those times. In order to keep chlorine levels up, is it OK to leave the generator running when the pump is off and the cover is on? Thanks.

Surprise CYA reading--a little help, please?

I recently had my pool covered (solar cover) for a week during a stretch of bad weather. Uncovered it a couple of days ago, of course TC was low. Ran the pump and filter as well as the SWG. At the end of the first day, I also checked CYA and the fluid in the tube was absolutely clear. Tested...

    Floating solar lights

I'd like to get one or two floating solar lights for our AGP. These would be for occasional use only. Do you have a favorite brand? Favorite type?

    vacuum hose

We have a lot of dust here. Even though I keep the pool covered, some dust inevitably gets in and it settles to the bottom where the skimmer can't help. Is it is acceptable to leave the vacuum hose on the bottom while pump is running to keep the bottom a little clearer? I know I have to...

    Aaaagh! Bees!

I'm actually a fan of honeybees. But they are taking up residence in the waste hose leading from my multiport. I washed a cluster of about 30 of them out just now. They're mad. They're also swarming around the skimmer. Probably looking for water; it's pretty dry here. But salt water? At...

    Vac plate?

I'm not sure where it goes or how to attach it. Logic would put it into the skimmer, where there is some suction, but I need some advice on how to attach it--if indeed, that's where it goes--and how to keep it from a) floating and b) sucking air. I don't have a hose for it, either...

    Test result form?

Is there an online copy of the blank test result form that comes on the TF 100 kit? It would be nice to be able to print one out if necessary. Thanks.

    Skimmer "socks"

Has anybody ever made their own? I've got a bunch of cotton gauze I could use (not like medical gauze; it's a closer weave. Think gauze curtains) What do you think? Will it work? Thanks!

How long does a TF100 test kit last?

That is to say, generally speaking, how many tests can you get out of a kit before needing to buy again? Thanks!

Best way to connect and seal hoses?

These are standard corrugated pool hoses that slide and clamp onto a male cone adapter. My instructions said not to use sealant. "It will leak!", they said. I think I've redone every connection at least once, and now that the pool is full and chemically balanced, it's a real pain when one...

Greetings from the tiny Hawaiian neighbor island of Moloka'i. I'm a brand new pool owner--yikes! I assembled the whole thing myself, with a little help from a neighbor on the steel wall. Just recently finished assembling the pump & filter, and finally got rid of all those little connector...

    Newbie with installation questions

Greetings~ I'm a brand new pool owner on my own in the wilds of rural Hawai'i. I assembled and plumbed it myself, after having scoured forums like this one for info. I could really use some patient guidance on a couple of questions. Specifics: Above ground pool. 3,500 gal. 12'round, 52"...
