4" Outlet/Return on Leisure Bay Pool - Help!

I may have a solution (sharing for other owners). This is a Turbo Jet Return Fitting. If you use that as your search term results are much better :)

4" Outlet/Return on Leisure Bay Pool - Help!

We are the second owners of an apx 15 yo Leisure Bay pool (company out of business). The return on the pool is broken - water pouring out. It is also HUGE. The hole in the pool wall/liner is currently 4 3/4" wide. When I walk into local places with this enormous piece their eyes bug out before...

Lake to Pool Contaminant Transfer possible?

I was thinking algae but that situation is heartbreaking. We watersport an inland lake and have already received an email from a relative.

Lake to Pool Contaminant Transfer possible?

We are avid lake swimmers/boaters. One concern I have is inadvertently transferring microscopic anything from lake to pool. We keep separate swim suits as much as possible and I wash them but lifevests are not washable. Am I overthinking this?

    Adding bleach daily?

Thanks! We are full sun, no cover so I know that impacts chlorine loss too.

    Adding bleach daily?

Thanks! I wasn't (too) worried but just wanted to confirm that it wasn't supposed to last for days in there. The first week I was adding bleach in the a.m. (pool gets full sun all day). I finally started adding it at night (failure to follow directions will be noted on my Pool School interim...

    Adding bleach daily?

I'm new and very pleased with BBB. My numbers are great and the pool looks good (Knock Wood!) My only question is it normal to be adding a bit of bleach daily? It's not much but when the pool calc calls for it I do. I think it's hard to break the puck mindset of drop it and forget it for days.

Newbie to BBB has pesky CYA Question

Thanks! I'm waiting for my new(est) test. Until then we have to muddle along with what we have. It could be wishful thinking but the water is almost too clear - and has been left alone for too long - without growing so much as a smidge for me to think anything is in there. The PS had us on 0...

Newbie to BBB has pesky CYA Question

We are very happy with BBB and the appearance of our pool. We were able to leave for the weekend and even with no additional chlorine beyond what I raised on Friday afternoon, we came home to a sparkling clean pristine pool. We could not be happier. My question is that the pool will not hold...

    THANK YOU! THANK YOU!!!

I came here because I was having the classic "Pool Story" experience. I call it "Pool Story" because it is never ending - and I believe they are making it up as they go along. :) After our last long weekend away I treated it per instructions with my weekly $50 in chemicals and came home to...

    BBB and Frequent Travel?

I used the extra bleach" method this weekend and it worked beautifully! I don't think I've ever come home to such a pretty pool. :) No stains, no murky water, just sparkle clean. It rained while we were gone but it was also very cold (mid-60's!) which I think helped. My CYA is very low so I'm...

100 lb sand filter using 50lbs of Zeolite

We used Zeobrite our first few years and had great success. If I recall correctly you do use far less so I would just follow recommendations.

    Help a Newbie out?

Thanks! It's hard to believe when it feels like summer is just starting but we've learned from past practice that keeping it open past Labor Day makes no sense and that's not far off. It looks great now - just a shame it's too cold to use it. Regardless of how much use it gets I need to "put it...

    Help a Newbie out?

We just got THIS test (ugh!) so it's kind of hard to justify throwing out that $$ and buying new yet. Is it worth buying an expensive kit this late in the season? For about 4 more weeks of pool time? 66 Degrees in Ohio in July(!) I wouldn't be surprised if no one swims again all summer. I'm...

    Help a Newbie out?

We used 3" pucks but the pool has been kept at 0 chlorine for the last month (stain removal). It stayed amazingly clear. I read the link for SLAM but it seems I can't SLAM because I don't have CYA numbers and have the wrong test? I need to study. Also I need to lower the pH I just raised? It...

Does the BBB method save me money?

I've been curious about cost as well. I'm getting 96 oz of bleach for about $1.49. Obviously if I have to use a lot of that per month - it adds up. I'm the cheapest person on the planet so sure I'd love to get my pool down to $10/month or something crazy but I don't think that's realistic...

Just dumb! Wrong type of Bleach = cloudy water!!!

This. We have probably had two maybe three "good swims" the entire time we have had our pool open since school let out in June. Seriously. First we had endless problems - no thanks to Pool Story. This week we got the pool clear (and a/c in car charged) - and the temps in NE Ohio dropped to the...

    BBB and Frequent Travel?

I'm curious how you handle frequent "away" time from your pool using the BBB method (long weekends more often than not through the summer) when a house/pool sitter is NOT an option.

    Help a Newbie out?

Thanks for the prompt reply! I don't think my Poolmaster 5 Way test covers CY so I don't know that number. I'm thinking low only because our pool has run on low chlorine since opening in April. That's only a guess which isn't worth much.

    Help a Newbie out?

Day 4 of BBB Method and already much happier with the look of the pool! Stains are gone (knock wood!) and water looks sparkly and clear. (Under Pool Store tutelage our pool was intentionally dropped to 0 chlorine and 6.8 pH so the low start numbers were expected). But ... I can't get my...

Rookie pool owner--update with test kit #s

Re: Rookie pool owner--so confused, so many questions!! I'm speaking out of turn here but to be fair, this is the answer of a city service newbie. On well water if you can't/won't fill from your well you are talking a water delivery. Minimum can be hard to get - or get scheduled any time. Add...

Making the jump to a Doughboy from our old Intex

That is beautiful! We installed one like that in 2006. We love it and receive compliments on it. I honestly think that dollar for dollar in a limited pool use climate it's the way to go. I know you don't want to hear this now but as our kids have grown we find we use ours less and less. Still...

Am I odd that I think a ph of closer to 7.8 is ideal?

Our pool was "trouble free" for 6-7 years and we always ran at a higher pH. Our water naturally tends to go that way and I suspect I run into more trouble fighting it.

    Really GOOD Bleach ????

That's what we get from the water conditioner supplier in easy to manage gallon jugs. I think we pay more but it's still not bad. It sounds like 12.5% will work? Like you, on a good weekend we are away from the house for days so I'm hoping some hold-over is possible.
