To drain or not to drain when winterizing

But, I have a loop-loc cover and they say to just drain 18" below the top of the pool. I'm in Michigan as well. So, now what? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

    pool not holding chlorine

Yep, you're getting it. 1-3 FC is also way too low for the level of CYA your are trying to get to by draining. I had an algae bloom this year as well because I only did the BBB a little and mixed it with pool store advice. Big mistake. I'm off the pool store and 100% into BBB and my water...

debris coming out of jet into pool

Maybe - if the PSI of your filter is 20 immediately after cleaning. In general, what he is saying that that you clean your filter and note the pressure in PSI. As the filter starts to get more and more dirty the pressure will rise because it will be harder to pump water through the dirt in the...

    First Fill........

Your still filling? Do you have enough flow out of your hose to put directly into the skimmer to get you pump running earlier?

Water chemistry close: but a couple noob questions

I can confirm "Almost" SLAM doesn't work. I "Almost" SLAMMED for a week with no change in OCLT number and my pool sounds a lot like yours. For that week I did keep my pool at shock FC level. The water was crystal clear and my walls "looked" great. So, I didn't brush either. My CC during this...

    Cloudy blue water help!!

With the test kit on the way and if you follow what is going to be advised on this thread and dump the pool store you shouldn't have a problem with a pool party by the end of August. I'm pretty new here and it took me a while to take dive in seriously but after a major disaster 4 weeks ago I...

    My new-to-me pool (PICS)

Please post a few details on how it went from black to looking good. The picture may not be doing it justice so it's hard to tell if the water is clear or still a little cloudy.

SLAMing for 5 days - no results?

My CYA is 30 worst case. On the tube I can definitely see the dot when filled to 40 and definitely cannot when filled to 30. It's halfway between the two when I think it disappears. So, I'm thinking I'm at 35 but I see the tube markings are not linear. So, since 30's shock level is 12 and 40's...

SLAMing for 5 days - no results?

Thanks. I am a believer - just doing a little double-check with the forum to make sure I'm not missing anything. Pulling the ladder and cleaning it separately would be one of those things I would not have done without this thread.

SLAMing for 5 days - no results?

Wish I could do that but I just can't wake up every hour or two for 4-5 days. That means waking up the wife and possibly kids. That's a no-go. If that is what it will take to fix this then I'll either drain it, scrub the entire thing down with bleach and fill it or just fill it in and put up a...

SLAMing for 5 days - no results?

Just a ladder and we do and have been brushing behind it for every brushing. But when I get back from my business trip I'll pull the ladder and give it a cleaning.

SLAMing for 5 days - no results?

Sorry for the delay. Was out of a few days for travel. No lights. Will start really scrubbing the ladder and steps and skimmer. No water features. We have been leaving the cover off 90% of the time. It is off during the OCLT. No dead areas that I can tell. No return is pointed toward the deep...

SLAMing for 5 days - no results?

Also I can't do more than 3 times a day. I work all day. I can doing the morning, lunch time and the evening. In the evening I can check and maintain 2 or 3 times before I start the OCLT.

SLAMing for 5 days - no results?

I'm not giving up just wanting to make sure I'm not missing something. The reason is that I don't seem to get a much bigger FC loss during the day. Like, yesterday (Sunday). Brought the FC up to 14 for a day of heavy swimming. Swimming started at noon and ended at 5:30 PM. Hot full sun all day...

SLAMing for 5 days - no results?

Been trying to maintain 14FC for 5 days. For each OCLT I make sure the FC is 14 or greater. I've had no change in 5 days. I lose 5 ppm overnight each time for the last five days. My CC is 1 each time. (After the first drop for the CC test the water is barely pink) My CYA is 30 My TA is 120 My...

    No CC reading

OK, I thought the sole reason to SLAM was to get rid of a 1.0ppm or greater CC. I figured by the time you had visible algae or cloudy water it would be a forgone conclusion that CC would be > 1.0ppm. This makes sense though since it looks like my CC is <.5 ppm but my OCLT is still showing a 5...

    using chloring bleach

Seriously, I know it is hard to believe, but the pool store testing is very bad. It took me a year to convince my wife. "They are professionals and have been in the business for 20 years - how can they be wrong". Not until I showed her the tests, we did them together, she did her own reading on...

    my turn to get started

As a Noob, I picked up on this tidbit yesterday... When doing the CYA test you can pour the liquid back and forth from the tube to the bottle to double check yourself. I was running the test twice as a double check. My pool store told me I had a CYA of 30 when I actually had zero.

    CYA Discrepancy

Split by Moderator from HERE. Please start your own thread for your own questions. Thanks, jblizzle I'm going to hook into this thread since I was about to post a similar question. First my story. Just before the 4th of July I let the pool go for a couple of days. You know, busy. Look under...
