Pool guy said D.E. filter will eventually rust, need new

My previous house had a Stainless Steel DE Filter for the pool. When we were buying the house, I had a pool guy come out and inspect everything for me. I remember him telling me "You can't add a salt generator unless you replace that filter... they don't like salt".

Concrete in wedding cake steps? Bad idea?

When installing my wedding cake steps, i went to Home Depot and bought 2 5 gallon buckets with lids, 2 bags of quickcrete, and a bag of pea gravel. Each bag got a bag of quickcrete and water, mixed a little runny, and then I stirred in pea gravel until I was to the top of the bucket. Waited...

32'x16' Doughboy with partial bury under construction

Let me tell you... It was pretty frustrating last Saturday night to leave the pool to BBQ dinner while the 6 people I was cooking for all remained in the pool mocking me! :whip:

interest in hard plumbing, where to start

I just finished doing hard lines for my new AGP install with the pump and filter 60 feet from the pool. If you are wanting a long distance like this, you may need to upgrade the pump and filter like I did. You can see my thread on the subject here. For pitures on what the hard line plumbing...

Pay for cake toper style step install???

Just a quick follow-up... I did this myself, and it was easy enough. That said, I wish I wasn't such a cheap ******* and had just paid the $50. It was no fun spending a couple hours in the Texas sun working on the steps the first day the pool was ready for swimming. I also ended up spending...

Replace AGP top rail with deck board rather than going over?

While thinking about deck designs, it occurred to me that you may be able to replace the top rail with deck board to create a seamless transition rather than going over it. A quick peak at my doughboy top rails show that they don't seem to provide any more structural support than a mounted deck...

New AGP pool, new TF-100, New to BBB

Thanks Richard.. I just tested everything for the 4rd time in less than 24 hrs. I guess it isn't necessary, but it is a little fun, and it is good practice. So here is where I am at: Around 8am this morning I re-tested pH and T/A (still at 7.8 and 130) so I added 15 oz of acid. I then...

New AGP pool, new TF-100, New to BBB

OK... I didn't get a chance to pick up any Muratic acid yet, but I will pick some up and add it in the morning. I only had 64 oz of CYA on hand, which sounds like a better first dose than 80 anyway from what you are saying. I put it in a old nylon of the wife's and hung it in front of the...

32'x16' Doughboy with partial bury under construction

Thanks everyone... The wife couldn't wait for me to get the steps in and went swimming. It seems that I have made her a very happy woman! ;-) The concrete framer will be back tomorrow to start framing out the expanded patio. We are adding about 500 sqft to our current 200 sqft patio. That...

Day 4 Pictures: After the liner was in, they pumped water back out of the pool into a temp pool while they installed the skimmer. Tomorrow I will install the steps and we go swimming!

    the big day has arrived

Good luck with the build.... I know how excited I was when the digging began. When I was a kid, I lived in Fresno, CA for a few years. I don't know what the soil consisted of, but I recall the landscaper's process of planing a tree.... Drill a 3-4' deep hole in the ground, light fuse of an...

32'x16' Doughboy with partial bury under construction

Actually, the installer brought the Intex with him and filled it on day 2. That way they could have the hose running long before the liner was in place, allowing them to continue working without loosing a whole day waiting for it to fill. I thought it was a great idea!

32'x16' Doughboy with partial bury under construction

For the most part, yes! Turned off the hoses about 30 minutes ago at the temp fill line. Once they attach the liner and install the skimmer and lines, we will add another 6-8", but that's it.

    Oldest AG Pool?

Thanks... I will pass along your kind words to the folks. The trex deck was done by my cousin and his crew about 8 years ago. He is now a contractor building high-end custom homes in Northern California. I am hoping to talk him in to designing my AGP deck for me. The old deck had a texture...

32'x16' Doughboy with partial bury under construction

The liner finally arrived this afternoon, so a crew of 5 showed up at 3:30 to get back to work. 2 guys are working on the happy bottom right now while 2 work on the PVC lines. I can't seem to figure out what the 5th guy's job is, other than hand the occasional bottle of Gatorade to the guys...

    Oldest AG Pool?

My parent's Doughboy is over 30 years old, but pictures on ours under construction has encouraged them to visit the dealer to look at replacing it. They have the coolest AGP install I have ever seem. They live on a lake, and the pool is placed directly behind a retaining wall, with a deck the...

Well it appears that the liner is not yet is stock. The installers got as far as they could without the liner this afternoon, and then called it a day (around 2:30). Hopefully the liner will arrive tomorrow and they can get back to work in the afternoon. Below is pics from the rest of today's...

New AGP pool, new TF-100, New to BBB

Our 15k gallon AGP will be filled in the next few days. I got my TF-100 in the mail today, so I went ahead and tested the fill water to give myself a day 1 plan. This is what I got: FC- .5 CC- 2 TC- 2.5 pH- 7.8 T/A- 130 CH- 220 CYA- 0 My plan to start off: -Add 80 oz of Stabilizer -Shock...
