    Cloudy and confused

The algae ordeal is over. The cover is clean, floor vacuumed and we're just waiting for the FC to come on down. I guess there's wasn't a filtration problem after all! I just needed to be patient. This was our first bout with algae so I wasn't sure what to expect. I will say, at the...

    Cloudy and confused

So this morning at 11:15 my FC hasn't gone down by hardly any. I didn't get up to check it before the sun hit it but the reading was still at 16. The water is looking a little clearer but I don't want to put more bleach in, it's high enough! Is it possible we have a filtration problem? The...

    Cloudy and confused

Those are the answers I thought I'd get. I'm a numbers sort of person and didn't let it go below 2.5 on the FC, testing daily. I can't wait to get my reagent refills to test the CYA to see what it really is. Should be very interesting, 26 or 36! Thanks. I think I'll go scrub the pool now.

    Cloudy and confused

I've been using the BBB method for two years and have been very happy. I feel as if I understand the process, perhaps I don't! Our pool is a green mess right now. I added 13 oz.CYA over the weekend to start bringing that level up from what I thought was around 19 (pool store reading using...

First Shock with BBB Method for mustard Algae

I'm so glad to hear your parrot is doing well. Critters tend to be important around here and if they're sick, I'm not happy! It's wonderful that you have a good pool store. I'm afraid ours falls into the let's see how much product we can sell category. I shouldn't disparage all pool stores...

First Shock with BBB Method for mustard Algae

I'm so happy to hear you're done. Way to hang in there! Just think what you may have spent if you had been advised by a pool store. I shudder to think about it!

First Shock with BBB Method for mustard Algae

Geri, Sounds like you've been given great advice. About the cover, over in the baquacil conversion section, it's recommended that everything be cleaned with a 10:1 bleach solution. That at least gives you a starting point. Spread the cover out somewhere that doesn't have grass or at least...

When do you close your pool?

We don't have a heater and I don't like water much below 88 degrees so here in Southern Indiana the pool gets closed up fairly soon after Labor Day. The nights are just too cool.

First Shock with BBB Method for mustard Algae

"Swimming when shocking is not recommended. Not only because it isn't good for you, but also because it hampers your efforts to clear your pool." I learned something new today! It never occurred to me that bodies in the pool will slow things down! I also didn't know about mustard algae being...

First Shock with BBB Method for mustard Algae

Wish I could give you some definitive answers. You're right about the "up to shock level" being safe for swimming. I knew there was a good way to put it but just couldn't come up with it! You can always try keeping your FC at 20 until after Saturday and then really go hard at it. Does the...

First Shock with BBB Method for mustard Algae

Hi! First off I want to let you know I've never had mustard algae but from what I've gathered from the pool school, I will give a few suggestions! I am a bit confused that you can hold chlorine overnight. Anyway.... As far as your question about polyquat based algaecides, they" can be used...

Running pump at night or day?

We run ours during the day to keep the top "layer" of water from getting so hot. Most of the time just removing the cover at night is enough for us to cool the water. We don't live in Arizona though! We have our pump running about 12 hours a day. Whatever works best for you!

Best Time Of Day To Add Bleach? And Why Is It The Best Time?

Re: When Is The Best Time Of Day To Add Bleach? I add in the evening to get my Cl level back up for the night and ready for the next day. Unless you have organics in the pool, you aren't going to lose much chlorine overnight. If you wait until morning, then there is the potential to give...

A few quick newbie questions - need help

Welcome to TFP!!!! First newbie question: when adding bleach/chlorine, do I pour this directly into the pool??? Yes, in front of a return. How long do I have to wait before it's safe to use the pool once I've added the bleach/chlorine? Depends on how much you've added. For regular...

"Your title sounds like an introduction at a 12 step meeting..." svenpup, I hesitated to use that intro because I didn't want to seem disrespectful. I couldn't help myself though. I like your response too. Oh so true. woodyp, I've actually been able to do something beyond checking and adding...

Hi! My name is Barbara C and I've been pool stored.

I suppose I'm not really new around here but newer than most. We started our 24' ag on baquacil because it would be easier than messing with anything else. For three years it was easier. Then last year everything went south on us. We couldn't hold sanitizer or oxidizer but I kept pouring...

End of Season or Start of Next Season?

Our 4th year was when we started having problems. They snuck up on us slowly at first. We couldn't maintain the sanitizer and oxidizer very well and then by the end of the season we couldn't maintain them at all. It makes me think of low chlorine levels with high CYA. I don't know if any of...

    Buying a used AGP

Larry,we bought some at Walmart that is Rust-Oleum brand, Rust Reformer. It was $5 something. We found it in the paint section of the automotive area too. It worked nicely on a cast iron bench. It's in an 8 oz. bottle but a little goes a long way.

End of Season or Start of Next Season?

Hey! Glad to hear you're going to be changing over. You'll be happy that you did. Our pool always looked nice on baqua but it really looks nice now. Make sure, if you haven't already, that you have a good test kit. I know everyone sounds like a broken record about it, but that one thing...

    Don't try grilled bacon

I had never thought of putting bacon on the grill but now when that thought does pop into my head I'll know to squelch it! Thanks for the warning. I have a nice heavy cast iron pan that will do the job quite well.
