Not sure what "shock" corresponds to regarding FC

Ok, water is nice and blue, just hazy. Yesterday I could make out a toy at the bottom in the deep-end, it was brownish. After I vacuumed the pool is all blue now though murky and I could only see bottom of shallow end. SWG has been set at 20% for last week (close to where I normally keep it...

What does it mean when TA turns red after adding R0007/R008?

Re: What does it mean when TA turns red after adding R0007/R Ok, using the above, bromine FC is at 62. I pulled the bromine dispenser and will let it get back down.

Not sure what "shock" corresponds to regarding FC

CC has been less than .5 for quite some time. I haven't turned off the SWG so not sure about FC loss overnight. I used the Chlorine / CYA chart for SWG here .. pool-school/chlorine_cya_chart_shock .. which is why I've kept it at 24 though looks like 20 would have been better. What happens if...

What does it mean when TA turns red after adding R0007/R008?

I tested my hot tub and PH is almost clear and TA turns to red instead of green after adding 2 drops of R0007 and 5 drops of R0008. I'm guessing it mean I have no TA or PH? Bromine level shows high but I only have test strips for that, my FAS-DPD test kit doesn't test for bromine levels...

Not sure what "shock" corresponds to regarding FC

I may have a problem with the sand filter. When I started cleaning, the filter was low on sand as when I drained the water for winterizing it a bunch of sand came out. When I opened the pool I just ran it with low sand for a week or so. It worked as when I backwashed the water was dirty. I...

    Too much salt...

No it won't but that is the great thing about salt is it's consistency. If your pool is open and you get a lot of rain that could dilute your water and lower the salt. To lower it, you'll need to drain part of it and refill. Drain 3" and add 3" of water and wait a day and see what your salt...

Not sure what "shock" corresponds to regarding FC

Good points, the process would be shorter by the 3 days it took to get it to shock level. The pool had a lot of algae to start, very green. Right now the water is bluish with a slight greenish tint, still can't see bottom of deep end but can barely see bottom of shallow end. Last night I got...

    Any regrets?

On my 2nd year using a SWG for an above ground 18' round pool and am very happy with not having to buy hardly any chemicals and seldom having to check chemical levels. I remove the SWG cell from the pool from Oct thru April so should get a lot of years out of it. My SWG is able to get my pool...

Not sure what "shock" corresponds to regarding FC

Yep pump / filter running 24 / 7. The water does look slightly less green tonight, more of a pale green now. The sand filter isn't really capturing the algae much as the water is almost clear when backwashing after a 24 hour period. Nice thing about the SWG, assuming it can keep the FC up...

Not sure what "shock" corresponds to regarding FC

Ok, FC up to 26 and pool still green. When I backwashed this morning the water was clear. Would flocculant (sp) help bind up the green debris to allow it to filter out quicker?

Not sure what "shock" corresponds to regarding FC

Actually FC hit 24 a day early with just the SWG. I turned it down and am fine tuning it to see what level keeps it at 24 (probably about 40 to 45% as 50% is raising the FC). Here are my notes.. 5/6/12 – Opening pool, connected pump & saltinator, salt at 2700, added 1 bag. 5/7/12 – Got in...

    can't hold a chlorine reading

CC needs to be below .5 otherwise it either causes clothing to bleach out or possibly eye irritation (or maybe that is improper PH). Your FC is also too low for sanitizing, need to get that up to around 5 or so...

Not sure what "shock" corresponds to regarding FC

The SWG is adding about 3.5 FC per day so assuming it holds I'll be at shock level on Friday (about 24 FC). It's not swimming weather here in Oregon yet so it's ok if it take longer than normal. The water is about 69 degrees and I need to get back in it and finish vacuuming the sides and...

Not sure what "shock" corresponds to regarding FC

Hi Jason, I hooked up the pump and SWG to my above ground pool and have a lot of green algae. Water temp is 70%. My CYA is 50 (filtered), PH is 80+, FC is 12.5, and CC is .5. Your article says to shock the pool but I'm not sure what "shock" corresponds to regarding FC? Is it keeping the FC...

Pool size and inaccurate Salt reading questions...

Ahah! I did use chlorine to convert. Regarding my calculation above, they're wrong as I rechecked and the numbers didn't make sense. Now when I look at the pool calculator the volume for 1' is 1900 gallons, which comes out to 158.33 gallons per inch (not sure how it was coming up with 1000...

Pool size and inaccurate Salt reading questions...

Ahh, well that's something that didn't even cross my mind, salt in regular tap water! So the 7500 gallon size sounds like it should be about right? The Aquatrol, even at 4000, didn't light up with "too much salt" which was surprising. Assuming a 7500 gallon pool, and, using Jason's...

Pool size and inaccurate Salt reading questions...

I'd been under the assumption that I had about a 7500 gallon pool as it's an 18' round with a deep end (about 5'8" or so) so I added 200lbs of salt after having converted from Baquacil to a Aqua Trol RJ SWG. The test strips show salt to be at 4500 ppm whereas the Aqua Trol has slowly moved up...

    SWG or BBB?

I have a new Aqua Trol RJ that I haven't installed due to needing a fitting, and, as I've recently converted from Baquacil the pool chemicals are pretty close to where they should be. CYA level is about 65, PH at 7.6, TA after deducting for CYA is about 110. There is a solar dome over the pool...

    Aqua Trol RJ

Thanks. I still need to find the part that converts it down. When I get a chance I'll call and see if they or someone else has something like that. I was e-mailed by the manufacturer's tech and was told it has to go through the pool as designed otherwise it'll void the warranty. I plan on...

Started conversion tonight - unsure if I'm testing properly?

I went in the pool last night and cleaned and swam a bit underwater. The FC was about 12 (now at 6.5) and CC is about .6. Even at .6 my eyes didn't get red and the taste had just a slight chlorine taste. Overall it was much better tasting than when I had the baquacil in it. While I was in it...

    Aqua Trol RJ

I purchased Aqua Trol RJ (return jet) model thinking I could mount it under my combination return / pool light, however it turns out that it only includes one 1.5" stem and the other side is a elbow joint that mounts where the current light / return is. Has anyone else mounted one of these...

Started conversion tonight - unsure if I'm testing properly?

So my CYA is somewhere between 70 & 80ppm, do you mean you can swim in the pool up to a FC of 7 or 8? CC is .5 on the 10ml test and .7 on the 25ml test so that's pretty close to 0. I've read that to not get any bad taste CC should be .2 or less. How high can CC be to be safe to swim in?

Started conversion tonight - unsure if I'm testing properly?

I read somewhere that it's ok to get in a pool with FC up to 10ppm when using CYA. Mine is at 6.5 and tomorrow it's supposed to be 95 degrees so looking to get in and clean it better. CC is somewhere between .6 & .8 still. Would it be alright to use Baquacil Flocculant to help clear out the...

Started conversion tonight - unsure if I'm testing properly?

Alright, I think my plight with baquagoo is finally over! CC level is now at .5. FC is at 7ppm. PH is at 7.2. TA is 130ppm. CH is 160ppm. So, do I need to adjust any of the chemicals before I install the SWG? Darn, tested CC again with the 25ml at am at about .8 so not quite there and FC...

Started conversion tonight - unsure if I'm testing properly?

Day 22, afternoon - I did vacuum the pool and as I hadn't did this to start with it ended up making the pool water all cloudy from the small particles not being filtered out. I put FC back to 15ppm after vacuuming and now it's at 5.5 2 days later and CC is at 1.5 (gone up to the level it was at...

Started conversion tonight - unsure if I'm testing properly?
