    Green/brownish layer bottom of pool

Sounds like you’re on your way! Stay the course until you pass the three criteria to exit the SLAM. Cloudy blue means the algae is dead, now your filter will polish that water. Keep brushing and vacuuming daily.

    Liquid Chlorine Price and Supply

The local big box stores in east GTA are selling liquid chlorine at $0.34/oz (Canuck-Bucks). My Mom & Pop local pool store is selling bulk chlorine for $0.24/oz. They’re right around the corner from my house too, so PLUS FOR convenience.

How Clear is TFP Clear? Let's See (Pics Only Please).

Forgot to put the cover on last night and this morning was greeted by a nice view from 40ft away on our deck. Unfortunately I can easily tell I need to vacuum the leftover storm debris now.

    What's your current pool temp?

Cold front swept through the area on Friday--Overnight air temps were in the 40's, pool was at 59 degrees this morning

    New AGP Build Southern Ontario

The pool has been filling slowly for the past 48 hours and today I installed the return and skimmer. That was slightly nerve wracking as it goes against my motto “if it isn’t leaking, don’t mess with it”. Taking a knife to a pristine liner took some pumping up for, but it’s done. Went to hook up...

    New AGP Build Southern Ontario

I’ve been away for quite a while here, but have been working bit by bit on getting this behemoth set up. Spent several days removing sod, digging out about 2 cubic yards of soil to create a level spot. It was all hands on deck for the ground prep. After several days of digging, we had it mostly...

    New AGP Build Southern Ontario

It’s been a quiet month on the pool front here. Some beautiful days in March got things thawed out, and unfortunately work was very busy. The pool was delivered just over a week ago and yesterday’s sunshine provided a great opportunity to clear out the old one. Several hours of siphoning and a...

    New AGP build, base questions.

I like the Cayman design. I used 1" white styrofoam boards (with one side coated in mylar) under our soon to be gone Intex pool. They were the cheapest option and actually did a really nice job. Because my butting and taping wasn't perfect there are some small lines on the bottom of the pool...

    New AGP Build Southern Ontario

It is done. Pool has been ordered. 21' Round "Element" by Aqua Leader. This is going to be a big project.

    New AGP Build Southern Ontario

I'm ready to take the plunge and get my pool ordered. I want to do it sooner than later as last year, supply sold out super fast. Today is a warm, sunny spring day so I trekked out into the mud out back and measured out an 18' vs 21' round pool. We have a decently large yard, so space isn't an...

    New AGP Build Southern Ontario

I haven't been able to find any 1hp 2-Speed pumps for sale in Canada for a reasonable price point compared to the 1.5HP pump I've been looking at. Bringing a pump in from the US will end up costing a lot more than buying one locally, so I'm pretty sure the Pentair is out for me. From what I have...

Poked the glacier that is slowly retreating from it’s top.

Hayward 1.5HP 2-Speed Pump vs. Carvin Shark Jet 1.5HP 2-Speed

It would be... We're looking at an upgrade to at least an 18' round (maybe 21') AGP. ~7600 gallons. Now I have visions of the awesome vortex I could create with the tiny pool :devilish:

Hayward 1.5HP 2-Speed Pump vs. Carvin Shark Jet 1.5HP 2-Speed

I'm researching pump candidates for our new AGP build this spring/summer and am stuck finding info on a certain Hayward pump. The Hayward 1.5 HP 2 Speed Turbo Flo II Model: SP57152. I've emailed Hayward for info and waiting to hear back, and thus far the supplier hasn't been able to provide the...

I'll be watching to see what 2-Speed 1HP pump you find. I haven't found any available from our (Canadian) suppliers for a decent price.

    New AGP Build Southern Ontario

Thanks! I'll be sure to read through your build thread later on. It's good food for thought on my build. I don't have an outlet close enough for a new 1hp pump, so electrical work would be needed for the new pump. As a staging (aka cost management measure) I may try running the current pump for...

Hi TFPers! It's been a long, long winter here and as we roll into March (and what seems to be a never ending pandemic) I'm starting to look towards summer with great anticipation. I expect we'll be spending PLENTY of time at home again this summer. We still have some lingering mounds of frozen...

Where to buy DE in Canada

I once sent me mother-in-law back to NY with a large back of food grade DE for her veggie garden. It wasn’t until after she left that I realized how suspicious that would look😳. She had no problems thankfully.

Pool cover that isn't a solar heater

Any cover is going to be a double-edged sword for you situation. If it slows evaporation it won’t lose as much heat to the evaporative cooling. A shade canopy will reduce how much sun hits the pool slowing temp gains there, and you could possibly use a cover as well to reduce evaporative losses...

Forget what it does...please help intex pool part and cartridge leads.

I don’t have that type of outlet on my Intex, but I’m pretty certain that’s the Venturi valve which allows air to be pulled into the water stream creating the aeration. It may be able to be screwed closed to cut off air stopping the bubbles. You can look at the reusable Unicel cartridges for...

Should I be going through this much Chlorine Bleach??

FC consumption has nothing to do with the quality of the bleach. If manufacturers are skimping and say producing bleach at 7% instead of 10% then your testing would reveal it. Testing won’t lie to you. If you THINK you’re adding 10% but the bleach has degraded and is now only 7% but you’re not...

    Intex Pump Slowly Loses Flow

Small pools inherently present challenges of balance due to the small water volume. Following an aquarium analogy it’s like keeping 40 tetras in a 20 gallon tank. Can it be done? Sure, but parameters can go bad fast. The small filters of these pools clog up really fast. My first summer with our...
