So I had the local pool store out to install the new pump. Tech told me that my filter wasn't big enough, and the pump would either make it take off like a rocket, or cause it to "implode" (his word, I think he meant explode). Anyhow, I'm not a fan of the cartridge filter, and felt like this...

SLAM time even though I don't think I have any algea in there? As the water level rose above deck level, you could watch a super dark cloud forming in the corner of the pool, then slowly spread throughout the whole thing. I guess with this much dirt we have concerns about living...

So heartbreaking... My pool was nice and clear, even with my pump not working, due to the things I have learned on this site. In fact, my 6 year old daughter was swimming in it earlier today, helping to mix the chlorine in. Then the rains came again.... We have had so much rain that the...

So it looks like my pump has failed. It hums, but doesn't engage, if that makes sense. It's not bound, I am able to turn the impeller. When I put a meter on the capacitor, it appears to charge. Any ideas? Or am I headed for a VS? They are so expensive installed. Feel like I could do it...

Thank you, I will give that a try, once this tropical storm gets far enough away that I can go mess with pool related stuff! In the meantime, I just keep having to drain water out of it to keep it from overflowing! Anything I should be thinking about pool chemistry-wise, given that I am...

I have verified some of them. I guess I could turn the ones I assume to be the drains in the pool and spa on and off, and get in the water to see if I can feel the suction, to confirm those. Same with the different spa jets. There is not check valve on the left most return pipe, which has spa...

Yes, you see two pumps, but the one on the left apparently doesn't work, and has been bypassed. There are three jets (what I call returns) in the pool. You can correct me if I'm using the wrong terminology there... The "Pool" in yellow is simply what someone previously wrote on the PVC (same...

The ones in yellow reflect the word that I can make out written on the PVC.

In the ABCs of pool math, it says a ph of 7.7 - 7.8 is ideal, and the instructions that came with the test kit say TA should be between 100 and 120. So I was targeting a PH of 7.7 and a TA of 110. The numbers on that link are lower, obviously. So using the lower numbers, it's 30 oz of Borax...

Conducted all of the tests, here is where I'm at: FC - 4.5 CC - 0 CH - 325 TA - 50 CYA - 40 PH - 7.2 So the plan is to add 42 oz of Borax, and 211 oz by weight (gulp) of baking soda. I already add bleach. With such a large amount of baking soda needed, should I add it gradually? Can it be...

I'll take better pics when I get home tonight. My home inspector took a pic of this and stated "THE POOL EQUIPMENT IS VERY INVOLVED. HAVE POOL COMPANY DEMONSTRATE ALL FUNCTIONS." Hah!

Here is the equipment. Took some monkeying around for me to figure out what was what, and get the levels where I wanted them for the fountain and spa spill over. While we're looking at this, the spa drains down when the pump is off. Looks like there is a check valve, can't really see it, but...

It's worth a try. Now I just gotta find a way to rig socks on the returns. On a different note, does anyone have any thoughts on the fact that one of my returns is barely functioning (very low to non-existent pressure)? I guess I should shut off the fountain and spa, and see what that does...

The SLAM is done!! :kim: FC loss was zero overnight, CC was zero. Water is looking good, at least until I try to clean up the sand, which stirs it up. Slowly I'll get it! I'll most likely do full testing this weekend, and we can start looking at my other levels. Time to get this pool stable...

It feels like sand. That picture was taken one day after vacuuming it out, so it was probably still damp. I just don't know how this stuff would be getting into my spa! Maybe it was all already in there when we moved in, and I just didn't realize how much there was, but it sure seems like...

So the pool seems to be getting clearer, but my TOCL number regressed. I'm wondering if I had an errant reading last night, because the number was high (19.5), though I had used pool math earlier in the evening with a target of 16. I grabbed water down stream (relatively speaking) from where I...

Tested my water before work this morning: FC - 17 CC - 1 PH - 7.8 (was between 7.5 and 7.8, but closer to 7.8) TA - 50 CH - 425 CYA - 35 FC held over night. We'll have to see where it's at when I get home from work today, FL sun is brutal this time of year! I lubed the o-ring in the lid a few...

I had to leave home, for my MILs bday, but from memory, FC - 16 CC - 0 PH - 7.2 TA - don't remember CH - 450 CYA- 40 Yes, I have cleaned my filter numerous times. It's sitting at clean pressure, at the moment. I'll have to take pix at the stairs tomorrow, since I'm no longer at home. If I...

Hello all, I am a new (first time) owner of an existing pool, as of the middle of June. First couple of weeks were fine, as the investor (house was a foreclosure prior to him) was using a pool service, which continued for a bit after we closed. They kept the chlorine levels up. By July 4...
