    White foam plugging/slowing skimmer

We're in the process of opening our pool that had a poor closing last fall. It's no longer green thankfully but VERY cloudy. I'm following the TFP SLAM method and watching my numbers with my taylor test kit. My husband thought he'd be helpful and put a few packets of shock that he found in the...

No power at the pump - did the freeze break it?

We had an unfortunate fall/winter where the pool equipment didn’t get brought in as planned. We live in the Seattle area so it doesn’t freeze for a long time but at one point had 1 to 2 inches of ice on our above ground pool. Our freezes don’t last long, but we did get some pretty decent ones. I...

    Filter/Pump not working properly

I’m not sure what’s wrong with our filter/pump system. The water fills in the preliminary basket and then rushes out with no suction. We have very little return pressure. (I took a video, but it isn’t supported to upload within The forum, hopefully you can view them here: Pool issues ) I’ve done...

Trying to understand CYA & Salt & SWG

I've never heard this!!?? Is this something new? Does this pertain to ALL tests? I have the Taylor K-2006 test kit with the K-1766 Salt test add-on. I could have been doing tests wrong this whole time!

Owing my mistakes with CYA & SLAM, have questions

Thank you @mknauss . I just retested everything because I don't trust the numbers as they've been very unpredictable. and as I suspected, they changed again! FC: back up at 40.5 (good thing I bought a huge container of reagent last year!! 80 drops per test is ridiculous!)) The tester tipped...

Owing my mistakes with CYA & SLAM, have questions

In my excitement to get the pool opened and get the SLAM started (last week) so my kids could swim with friends at the end of this week (the water was nearly clear, I deep cleaned the sand filter, and there was very little debris) I jumped the gun on the CYA and added it BEFORE finishing the...

Problem with deep cleaning the sand filter

Thank you @Richard320 ! I used the shop vac like you suggested and placed a sheet in a laundry basket to work like a "cheese cloth" and just emptied the shop vac into that. Made it super easy to clean out. The laterals were way more sturdy than I had anticipated. I removed them and cleaned...

Problem with deep cleaning the sand filter

I watched the video for how to deep clean the sand filter. It DEFINITELY needed it but in the process of cleaning it, the center tube that attaches to the laterals made its way to the top. Now what!? Do I have to empty to get it to the bottom again? I tried shimmying it down and only got about...

    How do I patch THIS?!

Yes, we have those! Do you just adjust the water so the vacuum doesn’t go as fast? How do I know it’s still getting the right amount of pressure? And do I need to have both valves at the same level (same amount of open/closed?) or can I just adjust the return pressure. I don’t want to mess up...

    How do I patch THIS?!

Thank you @bloodfromastone - I attempted to patch the whole and with 3 patches I got the leak to stop. But I want to make sure it doesn't happen again so I wanted to ask you where I get more info on the plunger valves you're talking about? Is that something that goes with (should have come with)...

    Tips for locating leaks?

That means the patch would have to be almost 12" wide, for it to be flat. There would be water under the patch, which would eventually leak out (as it's doing now), would that create too much suction on the patch as the negative space was created underneath it?

    Tips for locating leaks?

We found one of the main leaks. We drained the pool to the level of the return valves and made sure the liner wasn't the problem. I believe it was a contributing factor. However, in the process, I found a nick in the liner at the drain (vinyl liner over an old AGP) caused by our little water...

    Tips for locating leaks?

We inherited an old intex pool and bought a new liner. It still had the water drain valves which we never had issues with until I got a great little pool sweeper that works on the water pressure of the return water. However, the caster wheels have been hitting the drain valve and has cut a hole...

    Tips for locating leaks?

Do you reduce the water level or just use a snorkel and mask? We currently have 40” of water. ? However, after 12 hours, the ground is still wet but the water level hasn’t gone down all that much. We may just live with the minor leak. Or buy a new pool. Honestly, we’re so fed up with the...

    Tips for locating leaks?

I could cry right now....but it won't do any good so I'm hoping asking for advice in this forum might help. We just got the pool up yesterday and started filling it. It's an older Intex pool that we bought a new liner for. The old pool had holes, which was why we bought the new liner. We got it...

Where did the cheat sheet go for opening a pool?

It's been two years since we had a pool and I LOVED TFP and all I learned from it. I'm back with a new set up and trying to find the "how to open your pool" links. I remember there being a specific order of operations, what to test when, what to add when, etc. The pool is currently filling...

Do I have to use a tarp over foam?

Thank you. My husband worked ahead and got to the pool before I saw these replies and he installed the tarp under the pool. Oh well, won’t hurt anything. ?‍♀️ Now the question is whether or not we roll the tarp back to place the pavers under the legs or attempt to put the pavers on top of the...

Do I have to use a tarp over foam?

We have pretty nice ground underneath with small pebbles and compact dirt after removing all the sod. There are random little roots here and there but the grass is gone. We gave up the idea of sand, gorilla pad and tarp (which was going to help with leveling out the pebbles) and we are going...

Tarp, pad, sand, foam board, oh my! so many options!!!

@scout123 may I ask why you had to do it again? Did the foam boards not hold up? I don't want to put $200+ into the base of the pool to have to redo it again next year!

Tarp, pad, sand, foam board, oh my! so many options!!!

We moved our pool location this year and I'm trying to slow my husband down and encourage him to do it "right" this time :). It was simply on a tarp and the grass the last two years, so we've used a sod cutter and removed all the grass, used a 2x4 with a level to take down the high spots. We're...

    Confused on Suggested Targets

Yes, my CYA got down to 50 about two weeks ago so I added granulated stabilizer per the calculator. Apparently it was either too much or worked better than I expected. :) I think that's where I get confused. I see minimum of 4.5 FC and target of 6-7. Do I read that as - keep it between 6-7 and...
