Trying to balance with no cya

Did full test this morning and here are the results. FC 10.5 PH 8.2 TA 140 CYA 0 SWG 3000 I know I am starting the shock process. Water is clear but I don't think FC is holding yet. I added stabilizer in a sock/skimmer last night. I know it won't show up for a week or so. If I'm researching...

    Which Polaris to buy?

I need a new pool cleaner. :( With the size of my pool can I get by with the Polaris that doesn't need the booster pump? I would love some suggestions! :-D

    cloudy water after algae

Here is a pic of my water. Still cloudy. I'm sure you see the top step is discolored. It will come off when you scrub really hard. This has never happened before in our pool. There were a lot of leaves in the water over the winter. Could it be mustard algae and not just stained? Also, I made a...

    cloudy water after algae

That makes sense. I have not added anymore stabilizer sense my testing this morning. I was going to do it this evening. I will check FC one more time before bed and make sure it is at least 10. So just to be clear, I still need to add stabilizer to raise CYA? I know it takes a while to register...

    cloudy water after algae

Just curious, but why 16-20 FC? I thought my high shock was 14 with a CYA of 10-20.

Alrighty, thanks for info. I am off to try and scrub the underside of ladder. I have a feeling there is algae there. I will keep FC up and try to be patient!! :)

    cloudy water after algae

Just checked and the FC is down to 12 and the pH is 7.2. I did not add any bleach when i tested earlier because 15 was still in my shock range. I did add muratice acid to lower pH. I backwashed before adding the acid and I will put more stabilizer in a sock to keep raising the CYA. So, is there...

    cloudy water after algae

Here is my long story short! Last summer we put in a new liner, sand filter, and installed a SWG. Yeah! Our Hayward 1 1/2 hp pump died again in the fall. This was our 4th one in 9 years. We put in a 2hp this time hoping it would help problem. Thinking was our pumps are so far from the pool we...

Do I raise cya or shock first?

No dichlor at wally world. Bought stabilizer, put it in sock, and in the skimmer. Added my bleach with a target of 10. Tested hour later and the FC was 5. Added more bleach and now going to bed and get ready to babysit the water till the algae is gone! Fun times a coming! No worries, I have...

    tear in liner!

Not good news! Pool guy is coming this week to see about patch. As far as the high estimate, he wants to do some work on the bottom of the pool. There are some bumpy places in the shallow end, see it more at night. Doesn't really bother me. He made it sound like just regular maintainance...

Do I raise cya or shock first?

Hey friends, starting the pool up and needed help with the order of doing things. I know I already have an algae problem (not too bad) but when I tested I realized the cya is probably 0. Here are the numbers. FC 0 TA 120 CH 100 Ph 7.9 CYA 0 So, do I start shocking tonight with bleach or do...

    tear in liner!

First let me say I have missed you guys!! When I saw the tear today I new exactly where to go for help! This tear is in a spot that pulls away often and we have to pull it back in. The liner is 7 years old and I know we need a new one but the estimate is $4500 and it is just not in the...

What time of day should I run pumps?

Thanks for all the input guys! I plan on turning pump off at night and running during the day. Will shoot for the 12 hour window until the timer gets fixed, then try to back it down to 10 and see how my pool "likes" it. Gee, another household member with an "opinion". Great! What signs do I...

What time of day should I run pumps?

Hey TFP friends! I have missed you guys! The water is under control so haven't been as "needy"! I have a new question for you. Again, trying to save money, I want to cut back on the runtime of the pumps. It has been running 24/7. I know, that is crazy, but the timer broke and was never...

    opening green pool with BBB

Thanks again for all the help! You won't hear from me for a while! I will be soaking up the sun (or oil) on Okaloosa Island. Either way, I will try not to worry about the pool water! It is in good hands and I know I can fix it when I get back if something goes wrong. I have TFP on my side...

I am pleased to announce an FC overnight loss of .5!!!!!!!!!!! I feel like I have just won an award and should give a thank you speech! I would like to thank all of the TFC pool warriors that have helped me reach this point. I would not be here without your help! Kidding aside, I really do...

    opening green pool with BBB

I have scrubbed every inch of this pool. Today, I will scrub the skimmer basket. I am beginning to think there is something inside the main drain, just under the cover. It has suction, but there are dark places between the plastic slats, and when I brush they do not go away. The only thing I...

    opening green pool with BBB

OK pool friends, I need to borrow some POP. I am getting exhausted from checking the water every 1-2 hours. The water has been clear since Sunday. Since 6 this morning, I have brought it back to shock level 5 times. Since I am not familiar with my pool numbers yet, I am not sure what normal...

Thanks bama! Those leaves know better than to mess with my water! Not strong enough to move the valves so must wait for hubby to get home. :( We will do what you recommend. I have been keeping the water at shock level since 6 this morning. Maybe I will get all those nasty organics today! I...

Did the leaf test, and doesn't seem to be pulling much. If I put the leaf right on top of it, it stays on top. But when I push a couple of inches away, it never gets pulled in.

    opening green pool with BBB

Well of course there is not a leaf in my pool!!! LOL I will throw one in and get it down there. And you didn't miss a pic of my equipment, I just posted pics of the pool. Do most valves follow the lefty loosey, righty tighty rule? To turn it up, I should turn it to the left? Those things...

The caps can be removed. I just took them off and stuck the water hose inside it. No yucky water came out. As far as the bottom drain, the hubby "thinks" he has it turned on. Is there a test we can do to see if he has it turned the right way and make sure it is working?

Thanks Bama! I wonder if the white caps on the ends come off? When they unbolted the ladder, did it break up her concrete?

Hubby just tells me that our ladder can not be taken out. So I guess we will just have to scrub really good while still in pool. I have not checked CYA and CC since yesterday. CYA was between 40 and 50 and there was no CC. I will check these again today.
