    Lowering calcium hardness

My calcium hardness seems to be gradually climbing over time. Went from 350 to 425 over the past week or so. I live in Florida. I think the calcium hardness stays low in summer due to rain, but now we are in the dry season. I read that you can lower calcium hardness with soft water, but I am...

Can calcium increase on its own?

I check my calcium every week, and sometimes it goes down when it rains alot, but sometimes it seems to go up even without me adding in calcium. Is this possible? Can someone explain how calcium can increase on its own? :) Thanks,

What are we doing when we vacuum the pool?

Is the point of vacuuming the pool only to remove visible debris? Or is there value to vacuuming surfaces that have no apparent debris on them? I have read that when you vacuum your pool you should vacuum the entire surface including the walls, but I am not sure why.

Order of adjustments to pool chemistry

I have often read that you should not add two chemicals to your pool at once, so I am wondering if there is a proper order of operations for adjusting pool chemistry? I think I read about this in one of the Pool School articles, but I cannot seem to find it. For example, if my PH is out of...

    Pump pressure too high?

My pump pressure is a little over 20 psi, above the red line on the filter. I took out the filter and washed it with a garden hose, but the pressure was back up within 24 hours. Also I noticed that my skimmer has very little suction. Suggestions?

Leak and aging surface - related or unrelated?

We just bought a new home with our first pool and the pool is quite old. The pool has a leak in it and is losing about 1-2" per day. The pool material is Diamond Brite and needs to be resurfaced. Before we bought the home a leak fixing company came by and replaced the skimmer and filled a...
