Dave, To make the matter even more confusing, I went to Wal-Mart last night and purchased an HTH 3-Way test kit and the pH was spot on 7.8...which is entirely inconsistent with both of the pool store readings? Also, I did make sure I was using the proper phenol red with each comparator block...

Shouldn't be the case...I've used two different brands of the 5-Drop pH tester...Taylor R-0004 and an off-brand from the Pool Shop. The results were the same.

I'm sure this is a stupid question...BUT, we're not swimming yet so what is the best way to actually place and hold a vitamin C tablet on those stains? I'm sure there are creative ways to do it, I just can't think on any right now. Thanks, Alan

I should also point out that I've had the FC very high (at shock level or above) for about 2 weeks and have noticed no change in the color or intensity of the spots. Thanks, Alan

Can anyone venture a guess as to what these spots may be? I realize the clarity of the picture isn't great, but it was the best that I could do today. They are darkish-brown in color and will not brush up with a regular pool brush. They are both in the shallow end and deep end of the pool...

I retested my CYA with my new solution a few minutes ago and I think it's probably 30. So with that being the case, you're saying it's very reasonable to lose 32% from 6:00am to noon? Thanks, Alan

My pump is running 24 hours and I test every morning at 6:00 am...well before the sun comes up. And to clarify, I've never had 0 overnight FC loss...some nights it's 1 and others 2. Thanks, Alan

Re: At Wits End - Frustrated I've used this method for a couple of years and have read the site at least 25 times. I am maintaining shock level throughout the process. However, there may have been a couple of times throughout the 3 WEEKS that I let it fall below shock level...due to weather...
