    Soapy suds in tub yikes!

I was back up there today, the water is clear, the suds minimal. It does form foam with air on, but it settles quickly. However, the water tastes soapy. ( I figure my kids will all have it in their mouths so I better try it). I just need to find a time now for a drain and fill. Just when I...

    Soapy suds in tub yikes!

I was recently giving my tub a quick cleaning at the waterline with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, which I have found in the past works for this very nicely ( and for many other things too). However I had inadvertently used a "Bathroom" variety which must have some kind of detergent within it. I...

How do I use Bromine in my spa (or pool)?

My bromine test strips were completely inaccurate, totally useless. The Bromine was very high but strips still read very low. Perhaps the pool shop may not be doing an accurate test either? Get a good test kit and try again. When bromine is right, there is very little smell. Larry

    Borax and dry acid

I'm working on Borating my spa, I find the pH is drifting high when I'm away for a week at a time, I turn the air off, but I assume this is normal due to aeration present just from the pump running? Also I guess the occasional bleach addition brings it up? I am also interested to see what...

    Bromine Mystery

Thanks again, Our tub is kept at 99 degrees, which is as warm as the kids like it. Thinking about your 5 oz. rule, I went with just 4oz. the first time and the bromine level went to over 13, so I used just 2 oz. the next time and it went to about 7. I don't know how well the rules of thumb...

    Bromine Mystery

chemgeek, thanks again. I'm starting to get my head around it all now. I'm seeing ( unintentionally) very high total bromine levels now come down shortly after I'm in with the kids. Not surprising considering likely huge quantities of..., lets just say nitrogenous wastes... So my bromine is...

    Bromine Mystery

The more I learn the less I seem to know. What would you expect the total bromine to do as a result of use, go down or stay constant? Use introduces organics that combine to to form bromamines but they are measured within total bromine, they are still good sanitizers and they are harmless, so...

    Bromine Mystery

Does this mean that after 1 person*hour of soaking that a 350 gal tub that was at 3ppm Bromine will be at zero Bromine, in fact less than zero as it will take about some ( how much?) of that 5 oz. of bleach added afterward just to get back to zero sanitizer, and the rest to overshoot a bit...

    Bromine Mystery

Typical use for this tub is to sit idle for 5 or days at the cabin, then get very heavy use for a day or 2, with little kids. If I bring the level back up to 3-5 after use with bleach, then leave the brominator to do it's thing and try and hold that level is that sufficient? Will there be a...

    Bromine Mystery

I'm guessing that there are no equivalent slow release chlorine tablets that would maintain my active sanitizer level, or somebody would have suggested I use them instead of (more expensive and unnecessary) bromine tablets by now, so I guess I'll keep using them in the floater ( though maybe way...

    Bromine Mystery

Spam from Bromine Mystery Thread Yes I think that does, so the "Total Bromine" is the Combined (Bromamines), and the Hypobromous, both of which are active sanitizers. The Bromide bank I set up at fill is unmeasured ( unmeasurable?) and stays in the tub once it's there. I can activate the...

    Bromine Mystery

Thanks for the response, I don't have an Ozonator. I'm trying to get my head around the Chemistry. In my tub, Bromine exists as Bromide Ion, Hypobromous acid and Bromamine, Both the Hypobromous and the Bromamine are sanitizers, and unlike Chloramines the Bromamine isn't an irritant, so I don't...

    Bromine Mystery

I finally received my Taylor 2106K testing kit, not easy to get a hold of. Things have been going fine for my Bromine Spa since my refill about a month ago, but I was looking forward to getting real numbers for my spa, and managing it independent of my dealer. My bromine has read around 3-6 any...

    tub at a weekend place

Sounds like Borates are going to be helpful. I'll have to see what I can find available to me in Ottawa Canada. A boric acid product would be nice, so I'm not messing around with muriatic acid as well. I doubt the price difference will matter that much for a small spa, for a product that gets...

    tub at a weekend place

I'll need to learn more about borates, what to use, how much, when how to monitor etc. I'm sure it's here on the forum somewhere. Also what about enzymes, brand? When and how much to use? thanks for the tips. Larry

    tub at a weekend place

I think that's mostly true, the bromine tabs were working O.K., though I had only a few weeks to get the number and rate figured out. This summer will be a much better trial, as it will see a more use by the kids. I guess I'm looking to do what I can to insure the tub is always ready to use...

    tub at a weekend place

I've been reading here quite a bit, learning lots. Last fall we put a tub on the deck at a cabin we have on a lake. It is a lovely place for a soak. The kids love it. After the install, I followed the dealers recommendations for the couple months it was open and it worked fine, though I think...
