Does CYA always leave in winter?

It all depend how you close/winterize your pool. In the North we had a mesh cover where the rain and snow melted and diluted the CYA and in the spring mine would be 0. My neighbor had a automatic cover and never lost any CYA. It varies from one pool to the next.

How can I wait until my water is 60 degrees with so many leaves falling?

Each situation is different, but battling the leaves waiting for the pool to get colder was a nightmare, and closing the pool too early was not an option either. I actually put our winter cover on the pool and let the pool run until it was time to close. yeah a little more work, but keeping...

    algae and no chlorine

One trick is to use a sample of your pool water to figure out how much you need to add. Using a bucket of pool water add your chlorine to figure out how much chlorine it will take to hold a chlorine level. From what I understand is if you keep adding chemicals, and not reaching the level that...

    HELP.. abandoned pool

Congrats on the new pool. I wouldn't be too worried about the green, the water will clean up nicely in a few days/week after you get your equipment running and do the slam/shocking as stated above and balance your chemicals. With vynal liners you do not want to completely drain the pool or...

Another day, another issue: today its CH

I updated my signature. I am in Texas, I use taylor test, the pool place actually used the taylor test kit with a spinner, and repeated the test 2 times so I figure it was likely accurate. I went to the pool store to buy new Taylor reagents, because the ones I had were old. Thought, why not...

    Ammonia every spring start up

We use the same closing kit as friends with same type of pool and cover, and they don't have the ammonia problems, that's what makes this so frustrating. The good news is :P I have learned in the past how to clear it up  I am just getting tired of using so much liquid chlorine. I...

    Ammonia every spring start up

CYA :whip: So basically, I add stabalizer in the spring and keep cya at a 30 level all summer. I use bleach, so usually cya is not a problem. In the fall the cya dropped due to splashing, rain, and pool leak. But what I need to do is drain and add water to get out all the cya to 0?????? ...

    Ammonia every spring start up

2 years ago I used pucks and found out the hard way about shock lock. Then, discovered the ammonia in pool the following spring. It was hard to clean, but I did it and changed my ways and now use BBB. Last season I used the BBB and had a great season. So I thought I had wised up last fall...
