adding chlorine and acid at the same time

I use 12% chlorine and 34% muriatic acid and for the last year or two I have always waited about 30 minutes between adding these two chemicals, but I can't seem to remember who told me not to add both at the time time and what the reason was? What if I'm only adding a little of each? Can...

    digital pump timer needed

So it doesn't matter that the timer says it is for a water heater? I definitely like the price for it. I'll verify, but I think I have 220v there since there appear to be two "hot" terminals, one nuetral and one ground.

    digital pump timer needed

The pump is the only thing running off the timer. The reason I wanted to go digital is because I would not have to mess with the tabs and I could set for more than one time in the same day. The analog timer has been very inconsistent for me...now more than ever, which is why I'm replacing it.

    digital pump timer needed

Hi everyone. I am searching for a new digital timer to replace the analog timer that I currently have. I only need something basic as I will only have it turn on once or twice a day at most, but I was also like it to be very simple to manually turn on and off for when I want to clean or add...

    safe FC level for swimming?

Thanks. I was planning on adding more CYA as soon as I fix my slight algae problem. I started at around 50 and went a while without checking it, so I was surprised just the other day when it was down to 20. Guess I've been replacing more water than I realized.

    safe FC level for swimming?

After shocking and confirming an overnight free chlorine loss test, what is a safe FC level to go ahead and start swimming in the pool again? My CYA is currently at 20, so my shock level is 10, but I don't know how low I need to let the FC get before letting the kids swim. Thanks

    Kreepy Krauly

I never thought of putting the hose in front of a return. I'll try that. Also, I did not know about the blue right weights, so that is probably a factor as well. Thanks!

    Kreepy Krauly

I don't remember ever having this issue last season, but about a week ago I got out the Kreepy Krauly out for the first time in quite a few months and it will not stay on the pool floor at all. I tried pushing it to the bottom with a pole hoping it would catch the bottom with suction and stay...

2 questions for new plaster start-up

Great, thanks! Also, it appears that I do have metals in the water (iron and copper). It was suggested to try Jacks Magic sequestrant, but I can't find it locally. Leslies has "metal free" with the following description, and I wanted to see if this is the same thing, or will substitute okay...

2 questions for new plaster start-up

I do plan to backwash, hopefully for the rest of the season, but I had not opened up the filter for a true cleaning since I took ownership of the pool last season, so it was really quite overdue. As far as the acid, I noticed last night on the instructions on the box that it says to not add...

    Backwashing...

I may not understand the filter workings fully, but I don't think it is either the return or waste side, since it is the very bottom center of the inside of the filter housing (underneath the bottom filter grid "bracket"). Since the send and return pipes are on the side I would not think it...

    Backwashing...

Yes, the majority of it, but there some small remnants were left on the sides, but very minimal. I basically scopped out all excess with a small garden shovel, but I did not actually wipe it all down. I did also notice that in the very bottom of the tank there was a small round ring/opening that...

2 questions for new plaster start-up

Another question for you: Two nights ago I had pH at about 8.3 (that is my estimate since the scale on the tester only goes to 8.2 and it was a little darker than that) so for my size pool and using the pool calculator I added 70oz of 15% acid to bring it down to 7.4 Last night I checked the...

    Backwashing...

I'll check again, but I didn't notice threads on the inside of the pipe when I felt it last. If not I'll see if I can attach a piece that is threaded so I can add on the attachment that you showed the photo of. How much should I expect my PSI to go up after I add DE to the skimmer, and is it a...

    Backwashing...

Thanks for the replies. You were correct about the backwash coming out from the bottom. I simply turned off the pump, twisted the handle 90* and some water started coming out. I also see what you mean about adding a piece of pipe, because I bought a 2" backwash hose, but it will not go around...

    Backwashing...

Can someone take a look at the photo below and tell me how to switch my configuration to backwash? My filter does not have any labels or instructions, so I don't even know the make/model. Thanks!

2 questions for new plaster start-up

New plaster needs about a full month to cure, right? So does that mean no one should swim in the pool until curing is done? In the start-up procedure it says to add "chlorine SLOWLY to gradually bring it to the desired level". Does that mean I need to add a little each day over a few days, or...

tips and procedures for fixing a standard pool light...

Pretty standard fixture and the same as the ones in most of the videos I watched on Youtube, it takes a 400w floodlight. So far I detached it, removed the lens and replaced the bulb and gasket, but it still doesn't work. I checked voltage inside the light head and got nothing with the light...

2 questions for new plaster start-up

Thanks for the info. I checked the startup directions from the pool contractor and it is stated as "not required, but recommended". What exactly does the sequestrant do? If it is useful enough then I may want to use it even if I don't have to.

2 questions for new plaster start-up

    1. What is the "sequestrant" that is to be added at the beginning of start up? Is that the actual name of the chemical that I would ask for at the pool store? (I assume the bottle will say how much to add per 1,000 gallons...) 2. Is it okay to be adding new DE to my filter each time I clean the...

Looking for contractor to replaster in Southern California

There are plenty online and in the phone book, but I would like to see if anyone in my area can give a first-hand recommendation, since I want to make sure that whoever I choose will do a good job. A company that uses only their own crews (no subs) would be a plus also. Thanks!!

    Analog pump timer

"Ohm-boy", you rock!! I ordered the trippers that you provided the link to, and they are working perfectly. It has been quite nice to have the pump turning on and off on it's own, consistently, after more than 2 months of having to remember (and sometimes forgetting) to turn it on every day...

    Identify/remedy this pool stain

The worst part of the scale/staining is below the tile, so what if I were to tape off the tile in order to avoid having the acid eat away the grout? What strength muriatic acid would I need, and how long to let the acid sit on the surface before rinsing away? I don't need to scrub it, only rinse...

    Identify/remedy this pool stain

I'm near the 605 fwy, Long Beach area. The pool was in really bad shape when I bought the house. It was nearly empty and extremely thick, green water. Water had not been on the stained portion of the pool for quite some time since the house was vacant for many months before I got a hold of it.
