Please explain brushing a plaster pool

Regarding brushing, I would highly recommend buying a whaletail type brush. It is so much easier and effective.

Black stains fiberglass pool bad heat exchanger

No other sources. I test regularly and keep everything in spec. Definitely only happens when water is flowing through the heater. As soon as black marks started showing up this season I re plumbed not using the heater. No more new stains. I never even turned the heater on.

Black stains fiberglass pool bad heat exchanger

Hello all, My fiberglass pool is getting black stains. I am pretty sure that it is from the heat exchanger. When I don't run water through the heater I don't get the stains. When I do, I do get stains. I have tested this over a few seasons. I bought the heater used so I am assuming the...

Thanks for the replies. I removed the silicone today so I will be caulking soon.

What type of caulk to use

I have to replace the caulk that is around the edge of my pool. It is used to caulk the gap from where the cement pad meets up to the fiberglass pool. The original Caulk appears to be a clear silicone. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what type of caulk I should use after I remove the...

    REMINDER...Do Not Mix Chemicals

Unfortunately, I was recently able to witness the effects of mixing pool chemicals together. I responded to a call for help that was caused by mixing Calcium Hypoclorite (Cal Hypo) and Black Algaecide- Trichloroisocyanuric Acid(Trichlor?) together. I do not know if water was introduced to the...

Electrical shock from my pool water!

So here is the final findings. I turned off all electric at my breaker panel by turning the main breaker off. The pool is still shocking. I temporarily bonded both ladder pockets, that did not help. The cement that is within a foot or two of the ladder seems like it is bonded. No shock near...

My pump runs 4 hr/day. Can I use a SWG?

Mike, what do you mean that your SWG is painless, except when reset?

My pump runs 4 hr/day. Can I use a SWG?

Thanks for the replies. My pump and filter are over sized for my pool. My pool is 15K and they came off of a 40K pool. I'd rather not run longer than I need to just to save on the cost of electricity and 4 hours works. Thanks again for the information.

My pump runs 4 hr/day. Can I use a SWG?

I am considering purchasing a SWG. So, with my pump run time being only four hours per day, will it work? Is there a minimum run time needed? Thanks :-D

Electrical shock from my pool water!

Thanks for the replies. I am still working on it. I found out that the ladder mounts that are cemented in have a problem. One on the mounts is broken under the cement, so one side is not bonded, but the other is. It also seems like the cement is not bonded, but I'm not sure on that yet...

Electrical shock from my pool water!

Yes, it is a heavy gauge bare copper. It was attached to the pump, but not well. It is now attached to the pump and heater but we are still getting shocked if the ladder is in the water.

Electrical shock from my pool water!

Also, there is what I am assuming is a bonding wire. It comes out of the ground at the equipment pad.

Electrical shock from my pool water!

Thanks for the help. I am reading all of the posts and I did watch the video. I will continue to try and figure out the problem. I called the electric company and they won't send someone out. I don't know if I should call a electrician or pool repair at this point. It is hard to know what...

Electrical shock from my pool water!

Did you end up bonding that ladder? It need to be. No I did not. It is an in-ground pool. The ladder pockets(?) are in the cement. Those metal pockets are obviously "charged" since the shock only occurs when I "connect" the pockets to the water with the ladder. I don't know what to do...

I think he was just answering my question of where to attach the bonding wire at the heater.

Electrical shock from my pool water!

Another question. The wire comes out of the ground and then to the equipment. Then it does not attach to anything else. Should it end at a grounding rod or something?

Electrical shock from my pool water!

Also, the heater is not connected to the bonding wire. Is there a special location to connect to? I will also do that tomorrow.

Electrical shock from my pool water!

The connection lug on the motor was bad. I replaced it and it made things better. I can no longer feel a shock, but my son can still feel it. He said it is not as bad as it was. I will work on it some more tomorrow. Even if the shock is gone, I would assume I still need to have the electric...

Electrical shock from my pool water!

Thanks for the replies. I do not know if it is bonded. I am assuming that it does not since we are getting shocked. Since we can only feel it through a cut in our skin it must be a very low amount. How much of a safety hazard is this?

Electrical shock from my pool water!

Have you ever heard of such a thing? I am actually getting shocked from my pool water. I reached my hand into the skimmer basket and received a electrical shock. I am able to duplicate it all around the entire pool. I only feel the shock if I have some type of cut on my hand and the shock...
