    Taking over pool care

I did not know that CYA could degrade with High Water Temp and High FC. What valuable information! I always thought you had to drain water. Makes sense now that my pool finally needed a shot of CYA this year for the first time in a couple of years.

    Pool Covers

I agree with mburn16. I too use a cover during the summer. Not so much for keeping the pool warm (although I do like it toasty!) but to keep the sun from baking my chlorine out if it's a few days between swimming.

    CYA Level...

You have made great progress! According to the chart (CYA/Chlorine) with a CYA of 40, you need to maintain FC of 16 through the SLAM process. Like another stated earlier, SLAM is not a one time application. It is a process that is not complete until the following occurs: You are done when...

First year with pool--clearing the swamp?

If you aren't draining and adding water, I don't think your CYA will be changing.

    Getting all my levels together

I'm pretty sure everyone here will tell you to wait until your kit arrives. The strips are really useless. Assuming your PH is really that high, you are correct in saying you need to get that down first. I would then start the SLAM process based on your non-existence of Free Chlorine. Again...

    A little help is needed

I will agree about the speed stir also. I've had mine over a year and it is the coolest thing. I feel like I'm curing diseases and stuff like a real chemist. Anyhow, I also recommend the T100 kit from TFTestkits.com. I had many issues with green water and dumping this and that in there until...

    CYA Level...

I'm in the South as well and my pool gets direct sun all day. I tried CYA of 30 and found just like you that I was adding bleach every couple of days or more. I raised CYA up to 60 and have had to add much less even though I'm maintaining a higher FC of 9. Having the chart to go by is...

    CYA Test Method

I first want to thank everyone on this site who helped me embrace the TFP way! I thoroughly enjoyed returning $190 worth of pucks and shock to Sams Club and picking up $30 worth of bleach. You guys helped me turn my swamp into a very nice oasis. Unfortunately, before I found this site I had...

    CYA Control Test

Thanks for the quick reply. It's great to know that I'm on the right track! Everyone here has just been fantastic to talk too and of course very helpful in sharing their extensive pool knowledge. I will be contributing to this site soon as it has save me lots of money already! I just saw...

    TF 100 finally here.

Sorry for late reply. I took 5 days (including the weekend). Not too bad but I was just really anxious to start using it! :)

    CYA Control Test

I ordered (and received) my TF100 test kit. I was under the impression that it was to come with a control sample of 50 CYA water so you could make sure you were performing the test accurately. I did the test anyway and got something well over 100. I then diluted by half as others have stated...

    Slam will have to wait....

After finally receiving my TF100 kit, it turns out I was guessing all wrong on CYA assumption. It's way high (over 100). Plus, we are leaving for 10 days on vacation tomorrow. I am going to have my nephew continue to add 1 gallon of liq chlorine a day while we are gone to keep the algae at...

    TF 100 finally here.

Initial pH was 7.0 I think. I'm a newbie but I thought FC needed to be below 5 to swim. Anyhow, water is still very cloudy. I can see bottom of shallow end but not deep end.

    TF 100 finally here.

Well, I didn't use all of the shock. It just came in a box of 24 bags. Should I worry about low pH at this point? Also, how long after done slamming will it take to get back in the pool. With high CYA, it seems the FC level will be way too high for a long long time. Family getting really...

    TF 100 finally here.

I got the dreaded green pool a couple weeks ago. I just inherited the upkeep duties from my mother in law as it is at her house and she has moved in with her new husband an hour away. Hey, free pool for us! Yes please! Pump was bad and while waiting on parts, pool went green. I did what...

    3 Way Valve Positions

That makes sense but as there is no writing on the valve that I can see, where should the handle be pointing to achieve what you are saying?

    3 Way Valve Positions

Sorry. I'm using pictures that were already on my phone as I'm not at the pool to get better ones. Here's another from the opposite side. There is just a pipe from the back of the valve straight to the pump.

    3 Way Valve Positions

Okay, but where do I position the handle for that? Like, what position. Is it in the picture? All skimmer or drain? Sent from my SM-N900P using Tapatalk

    3 Way Valve Positions

Hello all, I'm new here and I must say that this site if fantastic! I've already ditched the granule shock in favor of the liquid bleach! My question is now about the positioning of the valve as shown in the pic below. The left is the feed from the bottom of pool and the right is from the...
