Is the Filter Pressure Gauge supposed to work only during Priming?

I noticed that my filter pressure gauge only works when the pump is priming; as soon as it starts running at my set RPM (750), the gauge drops to 0. During priming it's around 22. This doesn't seem normal to me, as there should be pressure while the pump is running right?

Limited suction from Skimmer - can't Vacuum

So I think the issue is that I was not priming my pool hose. Apparently if there is any air in the hose, the pump won't pull from it. I'll try priming my hose tonight and see if I can get vacuum to work.

Limited suction from Skimmer - can't Vacuum

Thanks! Do you think if I shoved a tennis ball in one of the holes (The one that I think is the floor drain), that would help the skimmer drain to create a constant suction? It's really weird how I will get suction for a minute or two, then lose it completely. Thanks, but I have a cartridge...

Limited suction from Skimmer - can't Vacuum

I have been trying to vacuum my pool and unfortunately I'm only getting suction for a very limited time. I believe I have what is called a combination drain - where I have a drain on the floor of my pool and then one to the pump from the skimmer - where the one from the skimmer is to catch...

Test results - what do I need to do now?

So I had added the 38oz of Borax about an hour ago, and just retested the pH of the pool. Currently sitting at 7.2. Sounds like you guys are suggesting I just let it naturally aerate now to help bring it up.

Test results - what do I need to do now?

Just did a restest today, here's the results. TA: 90 pH: 7.0 Cl: 5+ Really surprised why my TA is lower today and my pH is up. I ran the numbers in the pool calculator and it's suggesting to put in 38oz of Borax to bring the pH up to 7.2. Going to go measure that out and add it in.

Sounds good, I'll work on that tonight. Glad to hear it works so quickly.

Test results - what do I need to do now?

Thanks! So I ran the numbers in the calculator and it's telling me; given a TA of 110 and Borate of 0; to add 111oz by weight or 106oz by volume of Borax, in order to increase my pH from 6.8 to 7.2. Here's what I think I need to do: 1. Test Borate levels in pool 2. Test new TA (Since I...

Test results - what do I need to do now?

I'm going to pick up some Borax today. But I have no idea how much to put in. In the pool calculator, do I put what my current readings are in the first column and what I want my readings to be at in the second column? That's the only way for me for get any information on how much Borax to add.

Test results - what do I need to do now?

Thanks! I just added baking soda tonight. Maybe I'm not understanding the calculator correctly. For TA it says, "Add 28oz by weight or 23oz by volume of baking soda. To lower TA you reduce pH to 7.0-7.2 with acid and then aerate to increase pH. Note: Adding baking soda will also raise your pH."...

Test results - what do I need to do now?

FAS is the FAS-DPD Chlorine test. I didn't do a CH test, I figured I have hard water here; so I didn't bother. But I'll make sure to do it next time. The pool is crystal clear, I'm not seeing any cloudiness or any green. I can raise the pH by putting in muriatic or dry acid right?

Test results - what do I need to do now?

So I just took the readings for my pool and here are the results: Cl - 5 pH - 6.8 FAS - 30 CYA - 80 Alk - 110 Seems to be a little out of whack, and I need to raise the pH up. What should I do?

Moving into House, how can I make sure pool is good to go by day 2?

This is the first test that I did with FC results. So I don't have any other markers to compare to. I'll retest the FC later to see if maybe I did a user error. What is hasa? This is my first pool so I don't know any pool places yet. Thanks for the tip.

Moving into House, how can I make sure pool is good to go by day 2?

    Okay so I just took my readings. Is my pool safe to swim in? And what do you guys recommend that I do next? Cl = 5 pH = 6.8 - 7.2 FAS = ~43 drops = 21.5 CC = 0 CYA = 60 Alk = 9 * 10 = 90

Moving into House, how can I make sure pool is good to go by day 2?

Thanks, I found it! I must have been blind when I was looking for it when doing the initial testing. I will be retesting the pool tomorrow; hopefully I will be able to get the pool up by Saturday evening to swim in!

Moving into House, how can I make sure pool is good to go by day 2?

Thanks. I was going to perform the FAS/DPD test, but I think I needed some powder - but I didn't see any in the TF-100 kit. Is it something that I have to get separately? That's good to know about the filter. After moving; I really didn't want the added expense.

Moving into House, how can I make sure pool is good to go by day 2?

Also, completely noob question here. But in the TF-100 kit, on the instrument that I use to measure the pH, the other half of the instrument marked "Chlorine", measures the amount of "free chlorine" right?

Moving into House, how can I make sure pool is good to go by day 2?

Thanks, after reading the stories about it; I'll take your advice and just remove the cartridge. I'll have to look into my pool filter cartridges now; I had no idea that they were so expensive to replace! (I'm assuming that they will need to be replaced, I haven't actually been able to take a...

Moving into House, how can I make sure pool is good to go by day 2?

Well that's good. The water is crystal clear which I think is a really good sign. The pool definitely needs to be vacuumed, and the filters definitely need to be cleaned out. I came across something; that I'm not too sure about with my pool equipment that hopefully you guys could help me out...

Moving into House, how can I make sure pool is good to go by day 2?

So I was able to do some testing yesterday. I didn't have time to run through the full battery of tests; especially since this was my first time doing it. Chlorine: 5+ pH: 7.2 - 7.5 CYA: I tried doing the CYA test, but I filled the tube up too quickly; so I didn't get an accurate reading. I...

Moving into House, how can I make sure pool is good to go by day 2?

Yes, when I got the home inspection done. Everything is working. The cool deck is chipping in some spots, some valve handles need to be replaced. The most expensive issue is that the pool light doesn't work; and he's not sure whether it just needs a new bulb or if it's electrical.

Moving into House, how can I make sure pool is good to go by day 2?

Thanks guys, I ended up getting the TF-100 kit. I will be having the final walkthrough of the house on Sunday so I'll do a test then. Once I run the tests I'll follow back up and post the results.

Moving into House, how can I make sure pool is good to go by day 2?

Wow! Fast replies! The TF-100 after seeing the comparison definitely looks like the better deal. I was browsing through the site, but I can't find a link to purchase. Maybe, I'm just blind... There's no SWG (I plan on purchasing one in the next 1-2 months though). I don't recall noticing a...

Moving into House, how can I make sure pool is good to go by day 2?

I'm moving into a house with a pool in about two weeks. I live in Phoenix, where it's going to be 114 this weekend, so I want to make sure my pool is good to go as soon as possible. I've never owned a pool before so I'm totally new to this and not sure where to begin. My ideal is to be able to...
