    Well I guess I need help....again *sigh*

Thanks for the replies. I just ran the numbers again with all my new regents and my CC reads at .5 I'm thinking it's ok? I had a few boxes of baking soda so I added those last night. I need to get more today. My TA reads 50 now...I will target 60. By warming up the water temp, my CYA...

    Well I guess I need help....again *sigh*

oops. WAs posting at same time. I figured out what the OCLT was so I edited my post. But now I am confused---do I need to do the OCLT *after* I bring the pool up to shock level or *before* (to see if I need to shock at all).

    Well I guess I need help....again *sigh*

No...I didn't bring up the water temp before testing the CYA. I will do that. It's been unseasonably warm here in Texas so far this fall/winter so the water temp is fairly high. Will do the overnight test tonight. At what water temp does the SWG stop producing chlorine?

    Well I guess I need help....again *sigh*

Shoot me. I let my test kit supplies get low and didn't replace them...been relying on Leslie's results (which have been "everything looks awesome!!"). I had noticed some scaling starting up again and HAVE been testing my own pH and trying to keep it around 7.4 for the past month. Other...

    Freeze Mode Questions

So the remote says my freeze control is on. The spa fountain turns on and runs in increments of time (not sure how long) and then shuts off. Is this what it is supposed to do? Also, the filter pump guage itself says it is as 0. Does that mean the gauge is just frozen or is this something I...

Raising TA (and do I need to add stabilizer?)

According to the pool calculator, if I target 70 for the TA I need Add by 99 oz by weight or 70 oz by volume of baking soda. Do I just dump it right in the pool or how do I do this? Also...how much will and how quickly will this affect my pH (just curious how much more acid I'm gonna need to...

Raising TA (and do I need to add stabilizer?)

My pH was around 8.2 and TA 120 when I got scaling. The pool was brand new and finished in January. We had unbelievable cold weather here last winter with tons of snow (crazy for Texas) and the pool even had ice form on the surface quite a few times. I'm told that pH is even harder to...

Raising TA (and do I need to add stabilizer?)

I'm scared to let my pH stay at 7.8. I've had scaling in the past and had to acid wash the pool. I have considered adding borates but just haven't gotten around to doing it yet. So without borates, do I need to add soda to bring my TA up? I'll add stabilizer tonight to raise my CYA.

Raising TA (and do I need to add stabilizer?)

I battle high pH and add acid every other day. I target a 7.4 pH in hopes to keep it around 7.57/6 over a 2-day period. My TA has been slowing falling. My numbers today have it at 50 which is the lowest it has ever been. Do I need to add b soda to raise it a bit (which will also cause pH to...

Do I need to increase my CYA and TA a tad?

Yep...the pH will rise. It will be 7.8 tomorrow morning and I'll add acid to get it down to 7.5. Story of my life...I sleep, eat and breathe muriatic acid. ;) Since this is the case, is it just a matter of time until my TA drops? Adding baking soda will increase my pH too, right...

Do I need to increase my CYA and TA a tad?

I have fought high pH (continue to do so and add at least 20 oz of acid every other day) and now am noticing my TA dropping below 70 for the first time. Do I need to now start thinking about adding baking soda to increase it (which will increase my pH, too, right?). It's right on the cusp so...

    Phosphates in water

What does the pool service have to gain by this? Would they be charging you more to do "take care" of the phosphate problem? I've never heard of draining a pool due to phosphates. The minute Leslie's mentions "phosphates" to me I just say "yeah...I think some fertilizer from my landscaping is...

I swear my pump or circulation system isn't working right

Where do they need to point? To the side and all in same direction or different directions? And there are 2 of them I can't move or unscrew.

I swear my pump or circulation system isn't working right

I honestly can't believe that my pump/circulation is working the way it should be. How is it possible to have the pump running all day and still walk outside and see a water surface of bugs and debris? Not a ton...but not a little amount either. I have pathetically sat and watched a swarm of...

Cleaned the pump skimmer basket now it won't turn back on...

Got it!! Will pick up some lube today while out and about and add it to the o-ring tonight. Thank you all so very much!

Cleaned the pump skimmer basket now it won't turn back on...

Yep....makes total sense. The o-ring came out of that "groove" awhile back but I do think I got it back on correctly based on what you are describing. It may, however, need lubed as I rinsed it off but did not lubricate it. Would lack of lubricant on that ring keep the lid from sealing...

Cleaned the pump skimmer basket now it won't turn back on...

Yes! I do have that ability. When exactly do you "turn and pull up"? The minute you turn the pump back on? Dumb question: where exactly does that lubricated rubbber circle go? Does it go INSIDE the lid or does it go around the pump where the lid twists on? I remember that coming off...

Cleaned the pump skimmer basket now it won't turn back on...

Oh thank you so much!!!! Whew! So the air bubbles in the returns will work themselves out, too? In the past it has never stopped priming and turned the intellichlor to "no flow"---it has always fired right back up.

Cleaned the pump skimmer basket now it won't turn back on...

Update: Went back out and turned pump on. Same thing...red no flow when priming started. While I stood there fretting for a minute, it started to prime again on it's own and the basket filled fully with water. The bubbler on my spa shot up 8 ft high and the pipes started shaking---seriously...

Cleaned the pump skimmer basket now it won't turn back on...

I didn't move any valves to begin with so I honestly don't know how to tell if they are back "where they should be". I only turned off the pump and emptied the dang basket. It wasn't even that dirty---was just walking by and decided to do it. My bad. Grrr. I tried to fill it back up with...

Cleaned the pump skimmer basket now it won't turn back on...

I cleaned out the pump skimmer basket and now when I turn the filter back on it shuts down while priming and the red "no flow" light on my intellichlor lights up...status of my intelliflo says "cell blocked" on the EasyTouch readout. I have taken the lid back off/on 3 times and it still does...

2 Questions....CSI in Pool Calculator and CC

I have considered adding Borates but was afraid I was biting off more than I could chew since I'm just now feeling like I'm getting a handle on my water balance. I didn't want to add another chemistry to the mix since I tend to overwhelm easily. ;) Thanks for your help.

2 Questions....CSI in Pool Calculator and CC

Water is a tad cloudy but nothing bad. Scaling is my biggest concern b/c it has already happened once and I'm paranoid about it. No one believed me last time when I said I was seeing a film of "white/grey" form over the pebble tec and, being a new pool owner, I really was clueless. By the...

2 Questions....CSI in Pool Calculator and CC

Ok....so maybe by knowing I have high CH I need to target more of a 7.6 pH instead of 7.4? I had previously been working hard to get my pH to 7.3-7.5 and TA lowered to around 70. I need to test my fill water for CH myself as I've only had Leslie's do it and I don't trust them for Crud since...

2 Questions....CSI in Pool Calculator and CC

Is a HIGH CSI number conducive to scale and LOW CSI conducive to corrosion of plaster, equipment, etc? Keeping my pH on the "higher side" (anything 7.6 and up is high to me b/c I am PARANOID about scale---esp given my high CH) freaks me out and goes against the motto that has been in my head...

2 Questions....CSI in Pool Calculator and CC

I have 2 questions: 1. Does CC show up overnight if you have algae/organics? I did a chlorine test last night around 9 pm. I got a reading of 5 and absolutely no cc. This morning (I got busy and forgot so the sun had been on the pool about 90 min. Equipment had not yet kicked on) and the...

Trying hard not to listen to the non TFP morons

Pump running for 9 hours at speed of 2100 right now. Cleaned the cartridge 7 weeks ago. I haven't cleaned the salt cell at all and am not sure how often I need to do that (or even how to for that matter---crossing that bridge when I get there). Warranty dude turned SWG off yesterday...I just...

Trying hard not to listen to the non TFP morons

It's been 4 days and here is my chlorine update: FC 6 CC .5 (It went away completely with one drop but this is the pinkest the water has ever turned on the CC test) PH: 7.8 (added acid to target 7.4) CH: 380 TA: 70 CYA: 70 The warranty company was out yesterday to check a few things and he...

    Pump issues?????

Pressure at 2350 is 14. Bubbles are larger than a pea and I can hear that jet gurgling. The bubbles come out in spurts. There is only one jet I see this with---the others are fine. Pump basket has one decent size bubble at the top right under the lid. I see 1 other bubble that is small. I...

    Pump issues?????

Skimmers seem to be operating fine and I see no leaks in the pump basket lid. However, I always see a few bubbles when I look in the pump basket when it's running---I thought that was just water circulating....is it not?
