Follow up question: If the main drain has not been used in some time, could it just be that the pipe is empty and it's taking longer to prime? I turned the valve all the way and it stays dry. How long can I let the pump run "dry" to see if it needs primed?

Hey Jim, Yes, two input pipes and one is covered. When I turned the handle towards the pump, "off" towards me, to which I thought would be the half way point, the pressure dropped. Blake

Update: Ended up draining 40%, filled, then another 40%. CYA came in under 30. No problems. Thanks everyone for the input. Starting the SLAM now.

Thanks. Yes, it's a non SWG pool. Dave - You think 50% followed by another 50% is better than 100%. I will SLAM either way. With the 50 and 50 I assume I wouldn't SLAM until after the second fill?? It's pretty swampy... I am draining into my sewer clean out to avoid getting turned into...

CYA was above readable. I estimated 150-200 which equated to 70-80% of the pool according to the calculator. I did not read about the dilution option until I already committed to draining the pool. Last summer even Leslie's recommended I drain the pool before offering to sell me more...

I've cut off the local pool store after my pool just couldn't stay blue. Ordered my new test kit in order to SLAM and CYA was through through the roof. Pool Calculator suggests draining 70-80% of pool. I'm in the process of draining the pool using a cheap Harbor Freight pump but it's slow...

To clarify, it's about a half inch high and circles about a third of the pool. What would be the proper way to fill this? Backer rod then caulking? Thanks!

Hopefully this is the best place for this. New to pools and unfortunately we didn't notice this crack surrounding half the pool. Its between the top of the tile and the coping. At first I thought maybe it's just grout, but the crack is pretty deep. The depth and width varies as you go around...
