    High chlorine in pool

Yep - turned it to zero when I first tested the chlorine. Since I got the level down to 4 I've been adjusting it, and I think somewhere around 15% should hold the level constant through winter with the spa cover mainly on, apart from when in use.

    High chlorine in pool

As a follow up on this one, I calculate that my FC must have been over 100! I took a few measures to bring it down quick, as there was a slight leak in two pumps and I wasn't sure if the high chlorine was damaging the seals or other components. So I: - Added the full 400g container of...

    discolouration around waterline

With my size pool, and current alkalinity, I only need to add about 180ml (6 fl OZ I think?) of acid to drop the pH. I prefer to suck out two syringes of acid from the container in the pool shed (has a long tube attachment) and put that straight into half a bucket of poolwater. That way I'm...

    discolouration around waterline

Thanks guys. I've been using muriatic acid to lower my pH/TA. I've been adding it to a bucket of pool water, then slowly pouring this in the swimjet stream to thoroughly mix it in the pool, bringing the overall pH down to 7.3 (until the aeration raises it). I'll try brushing around the...

    Calcium level?

Thanks pooldv. In the posts on the same thread on spa's, chem geek commented on hearing about some unspecified ceramic components that may possibly require calcium saturation. It was a bit vague based on what he'd heard from others. Is this now thought to not be the case? I guess if people...

    discolouration around waterline

Hi. I've recently become the owner of a 1,800 gal, 3 y.o. swimspa with I believe an acrylic surface. Around and above the waterline, the surface has a whitish colour to it. Not a thick rough/textured layer deposited on the surface, just a super thin layer that appears more as a whitish...

    Hi from Tasmania

Yes, makes perfect sense. After a bit of reading, I was thinking of running the levels pretty much like a pool, but with the alkalinity maybe a bit lower due to the increased aeration. The FC was somewhere over 120 ppm when we moved in (estimating based on what I've done to reduce it) - partly...

    Hi from Tasmania

LOL. It's a house I've just purchased, hence the timing. The previous owners didn't want to get a crane in to remove their 2 1/2 y.o. spa so they sold the house with it. And it's a spa, sitting on 36°C currently (or 97° for most of you) - nice even when it's cold out :D

    Calcium level?

Hi all. I've bought and moved into a house with a 1,800 gal swim spa, and I'm getting the parameters under control from some issues that existed when I moved in (eg FC over 100, but that's a whole different story!). After reading through the recommendations in the spa sticky on how to use...

    High chlorine in pool

At least I've figured out how the chlorine got so high. Looking at the way it's configured, when the temp is low the filter pump kicks in, as the heater runs inline with this. The SWG also runs whenever this pump runs - contrary to the manual they left, the SWG doesn't have a timer. So when...

    High chlorine in pool

Hi All. I've just bought a house with a 7,000L outdoor swim spa (about 1800 gal for you guys across the Pacific) It was filled up and had been running before we moved in, except that it was shut down for two weeks because the heater element failed and they/we were waiting for a replacement)...

    Hi from Tasmania

Hi! New to the forum from Hobart, Tasmania. I've been reading a bit on here for the last week, as I've just bought a new home with an outdoor swim-spa. I love the way there seems to be regular contributors on here who have a good chemical knowledge to back up what they are saying, rather than...
