TDS meter accurate as salt strips (same price)?

I'm trying this one for $22..... http://www.eseasongear.com/hmditdmekoip.html Not satisfied with my hardly ever working Aquatrol and dancing salt #s. They never match the test strips, so feel like I need a 3rd confirmation test. For 5 mintues yesterday, all three matched. At least I think I...

    Aquatrol not working - again

It arrived nonworking last year and I spent months working with support to get warranty repairs. It took the technicians several trips to get it working from bad diagnostic advice from Aquatrol/Hayward Controls. They eventually ended up replacing everything but the shiny white box (cell &...

    Too Big Pump - downsides?

What size plumbing do you have? 1 1/2" pipe?? Some filters are less efficient with too high of flow (most notably sand and DE). You can also get cavitation which makes it difficult to vaccum and can damage the pump. Do you have any trouble vacuuming? That's usually where cavitation is first...

Opinions/Suggestions on Pool Brand and Equipment

Are you sure that's right? The size pool and pump don't match too well. IMO, the pump is too large. I'd ask they sub a smaller more energy efficient 2 speed pump. You have a link?

Got my two speed pump installed today!

What size fittings did you have to use on the pump? I just got one too yesterday. I can't find the thread sizes listed anywhere and the pump is a different size than the union for the waterway I am trying to replace.

Pump dead on start-up - lasted 1 season/on salt pool

Jason- Thanks for responding. I went ahead an ended up ordering a Hayward power flo matrix 1 hp/2 speed. Noone seemed to have the Pentair in stock and I was looking for a reasonable (under $250) 2 speed pump. Upon further reading of the archives here there are other reports of similar Waterway...

Pump dead on start-up - lasted 1 season/on salt pool

I have PVC hard plumbing. I was considering swapping the bad 1.5 hp/2 speed Waterways for a new Pentair Optiflow 1hp 2 speed. I'm having a bit of difficulty trying to figure how much plumbing work to expect matching the inlet & side discharge pipes. Or, should I just get another waterways and...

Pump dead on start-up - lasted 1 season/on salt pool

I searched the web & archives and it would appear that salt or no salt should have little impact on pump life, but ours was dead after 1 season when I brought it out of storage yesterday. The bearings were locked and the shaft pretty rusted. It was a Waterway 1.5 HP/dual speed. I had drained...

AVOID National Pool Wholesalers -bait and switch

fwiw- I won a dispute and they are still trying to get me to pay for their mistakes. Warning- the emails are also orignating from "ipoolgroup.com" now. I expect they are going through a "rebranding." Stay away from this company

brand new Aquatrol- Still not working

we finally got a tech to come out!!!!! However, now the cell is bad. It is going to take a week to order and heck knows how many more weeks to get a tech back out. So, a good (CRAPPY!!!) unit. A bad board & a bad cell. At least it had a shiny white case, lol.

brand new Aquatrol- Still not working

Actually the service from their HQ has been down right awful. I'm told that I have to use the locals. If I were to send the unit back for repairs it would take all summer. They seem to only want to diagnose on the phone and I get a different answer with every call given the same symptoms. I am...

brand new Aquatrol- Still not working

Another week & still not working...tech service keeps asking me what is hte problem. Hayward keeps giving me a differnt diagnosis on the tech line. Hayward just wants me to try a different tech service and wait 3 more weeks to get scheduled again. NEVER buy an Auqatrol!

Re: brand new Aquatrol, bad PC board (they think) Now they Hayward says the cell is bad.....I have to schedule another service call and wait until someone can get out here (another 3-4 weeks?). NEVER buy an Aqua Trol. The service is AWFUL!!!!!!!!!

brand new Aquatrol- Still not working

Re: brand new Aquatrol, bad PC board (they think) Thanks for the offer. I called Aquatrol this morning and have to go through one more diagnostic, but not home now. The techs came and put in a new PC board, when we were not home after saying they'd come out about 6 times prior. They left a...

brand new Aquatrol- Still not working

Re: brand new Aquatrol, bad PC board (they think) I didn't get a PVC blank made this weekend. Is this something the techs carry standard or do I need to rig one up before he comes (Thurs)? I have valves to shut the water flow off, but have no concept how long the SWG might be out of comission.

brand new Aquatrol- Still not working

Didn't even work for 1 minute. I have check salt and check cell lights with no (0) salt reading. The unit won't reset with reset procedures from the Hayward/Goldline techs. Good news is that they plugged me quickly to warranty repair services nearby. Bad news, the locals deal with $50k+...

ground leveling noob having brain fart HELP

Re: ground leveling nood haveing brain fart HELP I didn't have any problems seing the rental laser level I got from Home Depot out in the sun. Thye had red glasses with the set (laser, tripod, & stick) , but they were more hassle (broken) than help.

AGP- no deck & dirty feet

I was wondering how people deal with dirty feet and how large of hard surface area people have around their ladders/steps to keep their pool clean. We have a lot of bare dirt surface around the pool from just having built it and I've stuck in some flagstone, but not sure it is enough. It gets...

ground leveling noob having brain fart HELP

Re: ground leveling nood haveing brain fart HELP I leveled mine with a water level (clear tube filled with food colored water). I had to dig 18-24" on the high side. Once I was ready to set patio stones for the wall posts, I rented a laser level from HD. It was like $50/day. I got all the patio...

    bonding loop question

Thank you. Split bolts are easy to find and use. So will go with that method to start unless an inspector makes me do something else.

    bonding loop question

Ok, so my well-meaning electrician cut my copper bonding loop when I was at work. He bonded the pump to the salt machine, but the copper wire that was supposed to run from my pool to the pump was cut. I would have to take the pool apart to run a new wire. The lug is on the wall seam under a...

AGP >42"considered inground by code?? [was "permanent"]

In this county if the structure is taller than 42" (and I guess they measure to mid skimmer for depth), then it is a "permanent" pool, even if above ground. A permanent pool has to meet a different electrical code (and building permits are required) than one that is considered temporary (and no...

AGP >42"considered inground by code?? [was "permanent"]

Re: AGP >42" to skimmer considered inground by code?? Looks like my electrician has to come back. Good that he's very conscientious in what he's doing. I guess I was more aware of the permit reqs than he. The 42" involves being a "permanent" structure and was why I had to get a pool permit in...

AGP >42"considered inground by code?? [was "permanent"]

The inspector is here for electrical work and now the County is changing the story on me and saying the pool is "inground" and doesn't meet code??????????? I have 52" sticking OUT of the ground????

    bonding loop question

Thanks. I'm glad I got 20' and didn't cut anything. I hate to have to pull the rails/wall column off to attach another lug and make a loop (and not sure 20 is even enough wire without a connection). I assume I can't use a copper splice nut then to do so . I will try to attach the wire through...

    bonding loop question

I've read lots of posts on this topic and am still confused. I have an above ground resin pool that I ran a #8 bare copper cable off of a lug I attached to the seam bolts on the wall. I also have the pool pump and a saltwater control/timer (Aquatrol) to tie in (bond). The aquatrol directions...
