Where to buy Chlorine and other chemicals

The Sunnyvale store seems to always have it out in the garden area by the cashiers where it does get baked. I prefer to get mine from OSH where it's indoors or out in the shaded warehouse.

Where to buy Chlorine and other chemicals

Lowes, HomeDepot and OSH all sell KemTek 2gal case (12.5% chlorine) here in the south bay ($7-$8). OSH would sometimes have them on sale and that's when I stock up. Prices keep going up and I think the last ones I bought were $6 for 2gal. In the past, I've also used Chlorox (6.25%) from...

Replaster recommendation - San Francisco Bay Area

Thanks. What type of work did Agua do for you and how much did it cost if I may ask.

Replaster recommendation - San Francisco Bay Area

Hi, I think my pool needs a replaster and am currently looking for company recommendations. I'm in Sunnyvale, CA. Thanks.

Blue/Black algae on walls & floor

Reviving the thread... I changed 2/3 of my pool water 4 weeks ago to lower the CYA and start fresh. I have shocked the pool at mustard level and kept the FC between 4-6 afterwards. FC=6 CYA=25 pH=7.4 TA=90 CH=210 I haven't seen any progress with my stain/algae and thought I'd give Polyquat...

RPM to GPM estimates for VS-SVRS?

I turned power off to the rest of the house for one set of readings. Subsequent tests were done using subtraction method and comparing with first set. If the readings were more than 5 watts off, I would shut off the fridge. I had forgotten to turn it back on once and it was off for half a day.

RPM to GPM estimates for VS-SVRS?

I finally realized that my multi-meter was probably out of whack after contemplating on the 260V line voltage. I changed the battery and now it's reading 120v/240v. I took a new set of readings and they match up well on the higher RPMs. But the lower ones are still off. I updated my...

RPM to GPM estimates for VS-SVRS?

The filter looks old outside. But when I opened it up last year, the inside looks great and shinny after I cleaned it. The heater box is rusted. I don't really use it as the temp. controller is not working. I had put tabs in the skimmer when I first got the house... maybe 2 dozen or so...

RPM to GPM estimates for VS-SVRS?

I cleaned out the DE filter back in Sep 09. Lightly pressure washed the grids to remove all the gunk. I didn't jot down the PSI's before I cleaned it, only after. And the pressure's been the same since then. To re-coat the grids with DE, I introduced it via the skimmer. I did it a...

RPM to GPM estimates for VS-SVRS?

The caliper measured 2.134" and 1.632" for the pipes that come out of the ground.

RPM to GPM estimates for VS-SVRS?

The 1" pipe goes to the booster pump. The 1-1/2" return was hidden behind the step down connector in the picture. The suction side are all 2" pipes. The pressure has been the same since I got the house. The IntelliFlo was already installed when I bought the house.

RPM to GPM estimates for VS-SVRS?

Here are some pics of my setup. The intake is 2" to the pump. But the rest is smaller. The filter has 1-1/2" in/out and same with the heater. The returns are also 1-1/2". The distance to the spa is about 6ft (3 jets) and the pool returns are at about 25ft and 34ft. There's a check...

RPM to GPM estimates for VS-SVRS?

I'm not sure what's in my plumbing as I bought the house last year with the pool. I think there are check valves, but not exactly sure what type they are. There are 1 1/2" pipes from the filter to the heater. I'll take some pictures when I get home from work.

RPM to GPM estimates for VS-SVRS?

RPM to GPM estimates for VS-SVRS?

Hi, I need help with the IntelliFlo spreadsheet. I have the VS-3050 and used the electric meter to measure the wattage (PG&E SmartMeter). The wattage I got seem pretty low and I'm not sure if there's a power factor that needs to be taken into consideration. Direct Calculation...

    Will lowering TA remove scaling?

How negative can I safely go for CSI, -0.30? I've tried using a pumice stone. I didn't see much effect aside from the stone dissolving :-). I've tried spraying muriatic acid, followed by power washer. It removed quite a bit, 30%. But I've been told this will ruin the tiles/plaster...

    Will lowering TA remove scaling?

I have a pool that has scaling along the waterline. I just refilled 66% of the water last week as it had CYA at 90+ and CH was at 410. I have shocked at mustard level already using liquid chlorine and I think the water is balanced, but with TA at 130. Will lowering the TA to 70 help remove...

Blue/Black algae on walls & floor

Thanks for the number Paul. The Sunnyvale website says to drain to sewer and listed the same number. I called them to check on watering the lawn and they just said it's ok if chlorine is 0 so as not to harm the grass.

Blue/Black algae on walls & floor

I'd think there would still be copper in the water even when stains are present. And I thought I read somewhere that staining would occur only after a threshold is exceeded (0.3ppm?). I'm pretty sure I have copper in the water as I've shocked w/ algaecide. If my tests come back with copper...

Blue/Black algae on walls & floor

I haven't tested for copper. I went down to Leslie's to check if they have anything I can use to test if the staining is copper, but they had none. They used to have a stain id kit (I'm assuming Jack's). They gave me a water bottle to bring some water in for testing. Are there any...

Blue/Black algae on walls & floor

I used shock that has copper algaecide. I guess I was making the problem worst everytime I tried to remove the stain by shocking it. How do I determine for sure that it's copper stains? And if it is, use ProTeam's Metal Magic to remove them?

Blue/Black algae on walls & floor

These have been spreading even when the water was clear. I don't think they are left over stains. If it's algae, it's not dead. I did the overnight loss test on the spa side without dilution. I'm just wondering that maybe the amount of algae on the wall/floor isn't much and the FC they...

Blue/Black algae on walls & floor

How long will it take? I've been brushing for a week on the spa side and don't really see a difference between a section that's brushed once a day (w/ nylon brush) and a section that's brushed with a stainless steel brush 5 times a day.

Blue/Black algae on walls & floor

My reason for using pool water to water the lawn is to save some water. But it sounds like I might use more water just to pre-soak and rinse  . I'll have to check with the city requirements on the levels for a sewer dump. I figured the sewer won't mind having extra sanitizer in the...

Blue/Black algae on walls & floor

I brush the pool with a nylon brush. I was only able to find a small s/s brush and only brush a small section of the pool with this 5 times a day. I have not seen a difference. They don't feel slimy. But then again, the water is cold and my senses may have been numbed. They don't feel...

Blue/Black algae on walls & floor

Hi, I bought a house last year that came with a pool. Pool maintenance and shocking consisted of using pucks (trichlor) and Pooltime Shock XtraBlue (dichlor w/ .26% copper) for the past 10 months. Water has been clear, but I started getting blue/black algae forming on the walls & floors...
