Replastering, Redecking, Replumbing 20x40 in ground

The North wall will have by far the easiest access during the construction phase whereas the South wall has by far the most prohibitive access due to close proximity to an existing building. The West and East walls would also be significantly easier to work with than the South one. An...

Replastering, Redecking, Replumbing 20x40 in ground

I totally agree having watched the surface scum slide right by the skimmer and would prefer to move the existing East skimmer all the way to the East wall. However, moving the steps to cover the entirety of the East wall precluded that practicality until speaking with the pool refinisher who...

Replastering, Redecking, Replumbing 20x40 in ground

So lots of preference for the cartridge filter over DE which seems to point toward the Pentair CCP520 from most accounts here on TFP. If we are able to fill in the existing stairs that encroach on our house our preferred replacement is full width steps into the shallow end. That would pretty...

Replastering, Redecking, Replumbing 20x40 in ground

I am fortunate enough to have had and will have the ability to dispose of the effluent in the new pad location without local restrictions. DE maintenance has never been problematic for me; however, I am intrigued by the lower maintenance cartridge users extol over DE. It appears the larger...

Replastering, Redecking, Replumbing 20x40 in ground

Thanks! Am definitely considering a salt chlorinator. I am reading here that cartridge filters will operate more efficiently than DE especially when oversized, but they do not achieve quite the level of cleanliness of DE. That's going to be a difficult decision!

Replastering, Redecking, Replumbing 20x40 in ground

My 33,000 gallon 20x40 in ground that was built in 1973 and fiberglassed in 1995 is getting an overhaul. We are doing architectural work that requires removal of the pool decking as well as relocating the pool equipment pad. The pool leaks heavily at the tile line, the fiberglass is blistering...

    Would you repurchase your dolphin?

It's such a shame because everything else about the robot seems capable of lasting considerably longer. It's just that that choice of a permanent magnet dc motor (pmdc) in a sealed container is doomed to fail after a fairly narrowly defined number of hours of operation. There is a lot of dirt in...

    Would you repurchase your dolphin?

I just hopped online to ask this exact question and saw this thread! Long story short, yes I will probably repurchase a pool robot, possibly even a Maytronics simply because it's the devil I know. I also have had a 300i for about six years which I have replaced the bearings in twice and the...

    Converting Trichlor to Liquid Chlorine

For the sake of others who may stumble upon this thread later, I would caution anyone to consider how important reliability is when automating a liquid chlorine doser. Too many times (even with an incredibly robust Zwave mesh) I witnessed missed events. If the dosing pump turns on when the...

Old fiberglass on gunite, replacement options?

Our gunite pool was built in the early 70's and eventually it was fiberglassed in the 90's. However, it doesn't appear the fiberglass extended to the coping rather it terminated below the waterline tile edge. As anyone can imagine, it appears to leak through the waterline tile and may well leak...

    Stenner tubing maintenance

TLDR Schedule: Annual: replace pump tubing inspect all connections inspect and clean injector Biennial: Replace all tubing Despite having had a 45mphp10 for seven years and tending to emergency failures at random I still have not established a regular maintenance routine. That said, and to add...

20x40 circulation patterns, linear or circular?

I have witnessed my predominate wind consistently moving the surface debris to the East end of my pool which runs longways East-West. Two skimmers sound like enough. Would three be problematic if they were all home run back to the pump?

20x40 circulation patterns, linear or circular?

For a 20' x 40' rectangular pool, I would like to know what the more desirable circulation pattern is: A: Placing skimmers on opposing corners and attempting to set up a circular flow with the returns or B: Placing skimmers on the same wall and returns on the opposing wall for linear flow...

Please identify this stuff appearing in > 20ppm FC

I agree that the insects I photographed are mayflies and that the photo in that fly fishing thread looks similar. However, in reading the wikipedia article and speaking with an entomologist it still seems unlikely the eggs I photographed belong to a mayfly despite similar appearances and...

Please identify this stuff appearing in > 20ppm FC

Here's another much better photo of the same type of bug which I am seeing on the water. Again, it's unclear that these are actually connected to the eggs in any way aside from the prior photo where something similar to the eggs were near the mouth.

Please identify this stuff appearing in > 20ppm FC

I pulled this specimen off the surface this morning. I can't tell if the yellow things are the eggs or not, but it seems to me they're at the wrong end of the animal for birthing. It's possible this animal is not the generator of eggs but actually a consumer of them. FYI, there were two tail...

Hardly late to the party, I just posted this morning! Every opinion counts and gives me strength in letting my FC go back to normal again. We're going to keep to a morning regimen of brushing the eggs off and probably run the Dolphin more than normal. I'm having trouble deciding whether to...

Please identify this stuff appearing in > 20ppm FC

I had already tried answering my own "usual" question with the TFP method. I was sure it wasn't pollen, but I hadn't looked so closely at it to determine it might not be algae until I attempted to actually compose a forum post. Nevertheless, I wanted to make sure I had exhausted my SLAM options...

Please identify this stuff appearing in > 20ppm FC

I agree the beetle eggs you linked are the closest I've seen so far, but they are spherical and opaque whereas mine are translucent and elongated. I have captured a number of the eggs into a small bucket and will attempt to hatch them although I hold little hope for pulling that off successfully!

Some closer pics to support the egg theory and help any biologists anyone can share these with to identify. I had to actually go swimming to get these so was able to get a little more macro although this is still a challenge. I tried to get some backlight in case an embryo might show but wasn't...
