Thanks again, based largely on you comments/advice I went for the Hayward AQR-15. Installing it this weekend (along with a Hayward Super Pump VS), will update you once installed.

    Hayward AQR-15 vs. Jacuzzi J-SS40

Thanks guys for your advice. For clarification, Leslie's extends the mfg warranty on the Jacuzzi from 2 years to 5 years on both the controller and the cell. Now I just need to make a decision! :)

    Hayward AQR-15 vs. Jacuzzi J-SS40

Need an opinion from the "experts" here at TPF. Been window shopping for a a salt system since this summer. I want to oversize my cell so looking at the TPF fan favorite Hayward AQR-15 vs. the Jacuzzi J-SS40. Both are way oversized for my pool, which is what I want. I'd go with the Hayward...

New To Site, Need Help with my first test

Good morning, my FC seemed to hold last night...BUT I'm not sure my measurement was good last night though as it is at 28 this morning or +2.0 to last night...that or the Chemistry gods are messing with me for all those chemistry classes I skipped while in college. Do you agree I should...

My last test of the day...hurray! :) Water is clear with a STRONG smell of bleach...did a full test based on Texas Splash's advice, here are the results: FC: 26 (I guess I was a little heavy handed when I added bleach around 6pm) CC: 0.5 TC: 26.5 CYA: 50 :) CH: 100 TA: ??? pH: ??? So...

Late afternoon SLAM update. FC down all the way to 13 :( Just added another gallon plus two cups of bleach. Very disappointed in you moderators & experts, you should tell anyone about to do a SLAM to buy stock in Clorox first! :) Seriously, will do another test before bedtime tonight and...

New To Site, Need Help with my first test

I guess there always is a light at the end of the tunnel...after hearing Kim's story I will never complain again about standing in the rain testing my pool water as things could always be worse :) This morning is grey and rainy. Water in my pool is looking clear, and my FC is at a healthy...

New To Site, Need Help with my first test

Just did my "sunset" test (out in the rain) , FC down to 20 so I need to add more bleach (50 oz.) to get back up to the 22-24 range. Looks like my SLAM will live another day, but hopefully not too many more. I realized tonight while getting soaked from the rain pulling a water sample from...

New To Site, Need Help with my first test

Home stretch is a long one! :) Seriously, just checked and FC down to 17 so I added another 90oz to my chlorine thirsty pool to get FC back up to 24. One roadbump I'm about to hit, it is very overcast and beginning to sprinkle. Outside of trying to maintain the FC at SHOCK level, does rain...

Day 3: FC was 22 last night after sunset, this morning it is 19, so another day. Just brushed the pool and added half a gallon of 10% bleach. While the water looked clear, brushing the pool shows there is still organic matter in the pool as I can see it when I brush. Hopefully day 3 of SLAM...

Afternoon update...the saga continues. Just re-checked my pool for the first time since this morning. FC is all the way down to about 10.5! Just added another 1.4 Gallons of 10% bleach. Pool does look nice and clear. We've had a windy, sunny day so a bunch of leaves had blown into the pool...

New To Site, Need Help with my first test

Another day of SLAM for me. FC this morning is at 18, and CC is at 0.5. So the pool calculator said to add another 50 oz of 10% bleach, so I will check it again around lunch time to make sure I'm at the recommended SHOCK FC level of 22 Two questions: How frequently do I need to test FC and CC...

New To Site, Need Help with my first test

Couldn't help myself. Ran one more test after the sun completely set...and glad I did. FC is now at 20 (a 2.5 drop from my last test). With that big of a drop, for some reason I suspect tomorrow mornings results will tell me I'm not quite done with my SLAM. Thanks again for all your help...

Pat, first of thanks for keeping me on track. This is great news on the pH. The sun is setting here in the Charleston, so the results I just gave you are at sunset, so does that mean I am done for the day and can sit back, have a beer, enjoy the sunset, and forget about my pool for the...

Amazon Gold Box Sale today on Hayward Pumps

Quick question for the pump experts. I currently small fiberglass pool with no water features. My pump is a single speed Hayward Max-Flow II 3/4 HP, model SP2705X7. The pump is running fine. In your opinion, should I consider replacing it with one of these Variable speed pumps on the Amazon...

New To Site, Need Help with my first test

OK, something new for me, I have chlorine and a lot of it! Hot off the press, here are my chlorine readings: FC: 23.5 CC: 1.0 TC: 24.5 Unfortunately, my pH now is very high, 8.2 based on the color chart. Should this be a concern? Prior to starting the slam I tested pH at 7.6 As always...

New To Site, Need Help with my first test

In my original post my pH was 6.8 and it has held steady there while I was draining and replacing water to get the CYA from 100+ down to 55. Once I verified CYA was at acceptable level, I INCREASED pH UP to 7.6 ... is that not correct?

Let the SLAM begin!! ...was that Caesar or Churchill who said that? :) Got the CYA down to acceptable levels...tested twice and both times it landed between 60 and 50, so I'm calling it 55. Let the Dolphin run one more time, and while it was doing its thing I ran up to Wally World and bought...

Ok, it's a new day! Happy to say I woke up to a CYA level of 60, so I'm just about there. Drained some more water and refilling now with a hose. Want to get it down to at least 50. Water looks clear (it should as I've replaced about 40 to 50% of it), but definitely seeing alge growth in the...

Thanks, been draining and refilling with a hose. Unfortunately my pool does not have a main drain, so I'm draining through the skimmer with a hose refilling at the bottom...it's a slow process. Currently have CYA down to 80, hopefully will have to 60 by morning.
